    this is the smallest and brightest flashlight I ever had and is small enough that it doesn't bother with my keys.
    the only thing I don't like is the twisting to turn it on, I Wish it was a button .

  • @Cetok01
    @Cetok01 Před 10 lety +2

    I liked your review of the Ti3 so much I ordered one. It's AWESOME for its diminuative size. The three levels work great for their intended purposes, and the strobe, while not instantly available, would be very useful for getting emergency attention, or dazzling intruders in the dark if you have a few seconds to prepare it. Thanks much.

    • @DinnerForkTongue
      @DinnerForkTongue Před 9 lety

      I agree with getting attention, but dazzling intruders in the night? Nice joke. It's way too hard and takes waaaay too long to get to when under the stress of a threat like that - hell, even lights that have the "press and hold mode change switch fior one second when the light is on" aren't good for stressful situations. Strobe has to be instant, one button press away, for you to rely on it.
      Not to mention you need at least 200 lumens to consistently stun someone, and this little thing doesn't get that far.

    • @Cetok01
      @Cetok01 Před 9 lety

      Gunner193: Oh, well; all plans have a tendency to fall apart somewhat in a real crisis. That said, note that I did say, "...if you have a few seconds to prepare;" as in the case when you can here the intruders shuffling outside the door, and the environment is already dark. The idea is to give a momentary distraction to allow you to escape, or to clobber them with a fire extinguisher, lamp, etc. Obviously, there are far better options, but they may not always be available when you need them. The old axiom still rings true: in a real emergency, the best tool you have is whatever you have with you at the moment, because there is no other choice.

    • @DinnerForkTongue
      @DinnerForkTongue Před 9 lety +1

      Cetok01 Yes, I know. I meant that you shouldn't rely _primarily_ on it, ie. don't buy it with that in mind. If you have it and manage to activate it, great, but it _really_ shouldn't be a plan with a letter that comes before D.

    • @Cetok01
      @Cetok01 Před 9 lety +2

      Gunner193
      No problem, I didn't buy it for the strobe anyway, Just trying to figure a practical (?) use for the feature. However, I'm very happy with the adjustable levels and the amazing full brightness for a unit this size. Perfect for a keyring or SERE kit.

    • @DinnerForkTongue
      @DinnerForkTongue Před 9 lety

      Cetok01 Hey, I'm back. And in this meantime, the only use I got for this light's strobe is as an emergency distress signal, be it aimed at a vehicle in the highway, or a low-flying plane.

  • @betweenfiveandseven

    Aesthetically, it looks like an ITP A3 with the maratac AAA knurling. That knurling plus tail stand is what has kept me hooked on the maratac, but I'll be glad to have a look at one of these. Thanks for the good vid!

  • @D33Lux
    @D33Lux Před 10 lety +2

    I like that it comes with a robster craw.

  • @sevenhillsadventurer3791

    With the new mounting of the key ring you could probably tail stand this light and use it in candle mode in power failures or in times when you need that functionality. I wish you would have tried that so we could see the stability of tail stand mode. Great review and thanks.

    The best general-use EDC flashlight on the market currently, no doubt about it.
    Cheap, durable, bright, lightweight, perfect power settings. You can just clip it on your pocket and forget it until you need it.
    120 lumens is enough for some basic outdoors stuffs as well, and I completely fell in love with the beam pattern (beautiful spill). I use it every day since I got it 3 months ago.

    I have both the 2 & 3 they both fit in my Leatherman Wave sheath nicely I've been EDCing it for about 2 years. makes good head light. I prefer the simplicity of the 2 but I prefer the brightness of the 3.
    I also have a mini 1000 lumen keychain light for when extra umph is needed.
    My brightest light is a Skyray XML u2 x 7 emitters. claims 9000 lumen at emitter. with the necessary high drain 35 amp 18650. I often use that one as a spotlight on my motor boat it will noticeably light up the trees on the coast about 1 kilometer away

    Im still stuck on my fav edc the streamlight microsteam. Its the newest which has 35 lumens with "s" style pocket clip for n the pocket or on the hat. One ounce it doesn't get in the way. Same price with less lumens and modes but the momentary push button is so handy and easy and quick to use I just cant retire it yet!!!

  • @2knives
    @2knives Před 9 lety

    If you back the bezel out just enough to turn the light OFF, you can then pinch the bezel between your fingers and pull back on it to actuate the light on and off. That way you're not always turning the bezel for the different modes. You're welcome. My fenix LD01 operates almost identically.

  • @kaywhy588
    @kaywhy588 Před 10 lety

    I had a TI3 and left it in my pocket and my wife accidentally washed it and it failed (I believe the foam insulator was damaged), I had the same thing happen to my streamlight micro stream and it still works. Spec wise the TI3 puts out more lumens but the streamlight is definitely more durable and more affordable. I also prefer a button switch to a twist head. (Just my opinion and experience) I attempted to have the TI3 warrantied (be it user error) but thrunite wanted me to jump through hoops so I gave up. I had some minor issues with the streamlight (broke the pocket clip) and it was not a problem they got a new one out to me asap. For these reasons my microstream is my edc.

  • @DinnerForkTongue
    @DinnerForkTongue Před 9 lety

    There's something misleading about this review, Jeff, and it's how you described the memory. The Ti3 has only "short-term" memory: it only memorizes what you were on between 2 and 10 seconds of it being turned off. After that it reverts to firefly, and before that it changes modes.
    The strobe on this is not for defensive purposes, since it's too low to be a good perp blinder. I have no idea where you pulled that one from. At best it's a beacon-like signal to draw attention to you like say, at night on a road when you have a dead car and someone in need of medical attention with you.
    Everything else, spot on. I have had this torch as of 3 days ago, and what you said sure enough matches my experience. Also thanks for telling us that the crab claw is okay in quality, and only the triangle and circle links are crud. I don't use the crab claw, as it's not a keychain light for me, but I may use the claw for something later down the road, so I already threw both links away.

    This is a good light, no doubt about it. With the clasp attached like CL did, which I copied, the light will still tail stand. The hole for the clasp is off-set. I keep the pocket clip on it too, in reverse for a hat clip which I copied from Christina.
    The led gives off a warm light, not the bright blue/white light that less expensive lights use to up the lumens. The warmer light gives you much better color perception. And it is very bright and floods very well. I don't think the lens is glass, I think it is plastic. But it does not take away from this flash light.
    So the only down side is, the memory is only for 10 seconds so it really doesn't have memory, and the lens is plastic. Also it is a twisty not a clicky which I don't consider a down side but some might. The up side is it is tiny, it is very bright, it has firefly mode that will run for a very long time, it tail stands, and it runs on a very common and cheap AAA battery. Buy two of them from Amazon to get free shipping. You will want two of them. You can attach one to a coat zipper for a zipper pull.

    • @DinnerForkTongue
      @DinnerForkTongue Před 9 lety

      It's _definitely_ not a plastic lens, dude. It's scratch-proof glass just like all other Thrunites.

    I bought this thinking it would be better than my Olight i3s. I was wrong. The low mode of this Ti3 is very dim at 13 lumen and I don't find it as usable as the Olights 20 lumen mode that is more efficient and lasts longer at 8 hours run time. Also the 120 lumen high mode only appears about 5% brighter to my eye than the Olight 80 lumen and the Olight lasts me nearly an hour on high mode with an eneloop AAA. I'm back to the Olight i3s as my edc.

    • @jeffgendron1959
      @jeffgendron1959 Před 9 lety

      Audioholic 01 Also the Ti3 memory function is annoying. I love the fact the Olight starts on 20 lumen mode each time with no fuss. It is the mode that is most used for me, in the car, door locks at home etc.. With the Ti3 I end up accidentally in firefly mode and low when I prefer the olight 20 lumen mode most of the time.

      It's the backup O-ring, the rubber gasket that goes behind the screw threads and makes that specific connection on the torch waterproof.

    As for the strobe feature being used to distract an attacker, it's not useful. For getting someone's attention, yes. I just find strobe features pointless unless I can quickly change to it with a single switch/click. Having to twist the the flashlight on and off, then having to wait a few seconds yeah... The whole memory thing is cool, it might work. I just don't like having a complicated flashlight that I have to mess with first to understand any other added components besides on, off, and the different modes in between. The more complex a device is, the higher chance of there being issues.
    Any who, I looked this up and it's a pretty good flashlight for the price. I've been looking at the Fenix E12 for a while now, and I currently carry a Fenix E05 for those of you who are interested in my ramblings.

    • @VvVWhiteFangVvV
      @VvVWhiteFangVvV Před 10 lety +2

      On second thought, I like being cheap. And at 20 dollars, 120 lumens, and being a AAA, you can't find a better flashlight for around 20 dollars right now. I'll be getting a Thrunite Ti3 when I get the money.

    • @archaicartisan2670
      @archaicartisan2670 Před 10 lety +1

    • @VvVWhiteFangVvV
      @VvVWhiteFangVvV Před 10 lety

      Jose Chaparro Yeah, but Amazon is being finicky with the Ti3. Sometimes it says it's available, other times it doesn't. Ebay might be a good place to buy it, but I'm too lazy to set up another website account w/password. I already have dozens more that I have to remember. :P But yes, this is a solid pocket light.

    • @DinnerForkTongue
      @DinnerForkTongue Před 9 lety

      I agree that the strobe on _this_ light is useless. Too hard to get to for an attack situation (not to mention 120 lumens is too little to actually _blind the perp), and too battery-draining to work as a beacon. To me, it's just something that's there, and that I may find a use for, such as signing for a car on the road at night.
      How does it compare to the new 3-mode E05, if that's the one you have?

    • @VvVWhiteFangVvV
      @VvVWhiteFangVvV Před 9 lety

      Gunner193 no, I have the earlier model that only has one mode. I've been using the 30 lumen model for quite some time now, it's pretty good; I like how it floods an area. I mainly use the Nebo CSI Edge 90 as my main flashlight though. Any flashlights that use a single AAA I usually have as a backup on my keychain.

      Fenix E12 is a sweet light but not in the same category. 1aa has way more juice so don't get rid of that light. These 1aaa lights are way smaller.

  • @ProgamerEU
    @ProgamerEU Před 9 lety

    Do you think the Ti3 on it's 12lumen mode will be bright enough to clip on a hat and walk down a hiking trail in absolute darkness and still see what is on the way a few yards in front of you? appreciate your time

    • @DinnerForkTongue
      @DinnerForkTongue Před 9 lety +1

      ProgamerEU I've done that several times. In total darkness, you definitely can.

    • @adamvarga7758
      @adamvarga7758 Před 9 lety +3

      ProgamerEU If your eyes are used to the dark, then 12 lumens is enough to give a comfortable light 4-5 meter in front of you, where you will see the obstacles. It will last more than 6 hours.
      By the way I would get the Cool White LED variant for hiking, because it's more like an "analytic" light, you see very good contrast and details. Neutral White LED is better for indoor and up-close use, when you need "daylight" type of light: it's more pleasant for the eye at the cost of less sharp details.

    • @DinnerForkTongue
      @DinnerForkTongue Před 9 lety +1

      ***** Exactly. Cool white means sharper shapes with blurrier colors, and neutral white means sharper colors with blurrier shapes.

    • @adamvarga7758
      @adamvarga7758 Před 9 lety

      Gunner193 Couldn't have said it better myself man.
      When I am outdoor and I really need to see a beartrap in my way I would definitely go for the Cool White, because I don't care wether that beartrap is dark or medium brown.
      But when there is a blackout in my house and I need to use a flashlight to bounce it off the ceilings to light up a room I would go for a neutral LED every single time, just for the more comfort.

    • @DinnerForkTongue
      @DinnerForkTongue Před 9 lety

      ***** Yep. For urban EDC, neutral is better, even because the natural colors should help keep your stress in check incase you're in lights out for an extended period. But if you're on the road, cool white is _the_ way to go!
      Gotta get myself a TN11S in CW...

    • @TFSGEO

      It depends on what you need it for. It's plenty bright for my use.

    • @DinnerForkTongue
      @DinnerForkTongue Před 9 lety

      If all the use you have for a torch is to look in slightly dark indoors corners where ceiling lamp light doesn't reach, yes, it fits the bill. But if you expect to walk around at night with any degree of frequency, then no, get a bigger one with better runtimes.

    • @adamvarga7758
      @adamvarga7758 Před 9 lety +1

      dominionn09 Lemme answer it properly: Yes it is BRIGHT enough for primary EDC, it reaches a good 20-25 meters with the highest mode.
      Who can main EDC it: People who use the light occasionally, and mostly for up close. If you put a reserve AAA battery into your backpack then you don't have to worry much. I would say 90% of the people can EDC it as a main light.
      Who shouldnt main this light: People who require long lasting (+1 hour) dedicated light for their work/freetime activity, and the light needs to reach longer range most of the time. Or maybe to tailstand to light up a room for hours.
      And of course it's horrbile choice for people who want a self defense light, because it has no tactical button, and starts firefly mode by default. For these 2 purposes above just get a Nitecore MH12, probably the best compact flashlight on the market.

    • @DinnerForkTongue
      @DinnerForkTongue Před 9 lety

      ***** Very good explanation! But since I don't like Nitecore for a few reasons, I'll just recommend the Thrunite TN11S v2 for tactical purposes, or heck, even general use. Blast it, even the TN12 works well enough.

      Toss it into a medkit if it's incandescent (best pupil checker around with its almost-firefly output, and that's all it'll be useful for), and into the "backburner" storage if it's LED.
