Big embarrassing mistake: its obviously "Nm" not "nm"
I just discovered a video by ForgottenMustard doing exactly this a month earlier but i swear i did not see that video before now. - Hry
if only my physics teacher could show me like this
Good comparison
VERY good video! hope you make more.
this was the best explanation actually
thought i knew more but this made me realize you can learn something every single day
Good
Horse power is for speed while torque is for power.
Power is force over time horsepower is power not torque
Technically, torque only matters because having more torque results in having more power at a given RPM:
For example:
Petrol Engine: 100 HP @6000 RPM
Diesel Engine: 90 HP @4000 RPM
If both car accelerate at 2000 RPM, then the
Petrol Engine will have arround 33 HP power
The Diesel Engine will however have arround 45 HP due to its higher torque
45 PS = faster than 33 PS = Diesel wins.
To compete with the diesel, you have to give the petrol the RPM it needs to use its higher power output. In my example, that would be arround between 5500 - 6000 RPM.
Only power counts, but the high RPM required for serious power in a low torque vehicle makes it uncomfortable to use which is why most people avoid it, thus reducing power.
And with that, it is explained why Diesels feel so much more powerful than petrol engines... because due to having higher torque... at the same RPM... they are.
Petrol ❤
What a music??
