I've got the very same, but in cream white, overhere in my garage. 1953 V8 Super Riviera Hardtop Coupe. Apart from the nickname 'Coke bottle look' it also has the famous 'million dollar smile' grille.
I owned the exact same car, same color combination and with the same wide whitewall tires. I bought it for $225.00 at 17 years old in 1966 from a neighbor whose husband passed away a couple of months earlier and she could not handle this large sized car. I drove it to school mostly but when my friends went off to college in other states, this was the car they decided was the most reliable for the trip. I drove the car until I was 21. One day the driver's side windshield wiper snapped a cable. I couldn't get the part needed anywhere and no Mechanic wanted to work on the car for less than what I paid for the car years earlier. So I drove the car only on sunny days and eventually parked it on the side of my house until a guy came over and wanted to trade it for a 69 VW bug. I accepted as it was now the first gas crisis and gas jumped to over $1.00 per gallon when it was formerly $0.32 cents before.
Very nice example of the 1953 Buick Super, fairly well-represented by the presenter. The interior has that velour look that was popular in the 1990s, and a few other minor nits that could be picked. This would be a great weekend driver for someone, as it's not Pebble Beach material. Just enjoy it as it is. If it rains while you're driving it, turn the wipers on and don't get a stroke over it!
Is he trying to sell the car? I appreciate his summary of its many attributes, but a bit more balance would be nice. That Dynaflow transmission was a unique design, as he says, but it was a drag on the progress of Buick then and for years to follow. It is hugely inefficient, meaning that gas mileage falls into the catagory of "if you have to ask, you can't afford it." Also, it made the car slow, and I mean like a stone. Try 0-60 mph in the 20+seconds. It was also very complicated and expensive to repair, as I found out the hard way - my first car was a '56 pillarless Special 4.door.
I owned a 56r for 20 years, it was fast, economical, smooth and reliable. I drove it from Sydney, around Tasmania and back and right up the north coast of Nsw, so much power it could spin the wheels with a Dyna flow, I did get it up to 100 mph when I was young but very dangerous.

ALL LINES 40-50-70 WERE 121.5 IN WHEELBASE SAVE THE 72R ROADMASTER SEDAN AT 125.5 IN. AND THE NAIL HEAD MONIKER WAS NOT THE LENGTH OF THE VALVE STEM BUT THE SIZE OF THE VALVE HEAD .MAKING THE VALVES APPEAR LIKE NAILS . THAT WAS THE REAL PROBLEM AS THEY COULD NOT BREATH AS WELL AS THEY COULD REV. THE NAIL HEAD A ZORA ARKUS DUNTOV DESIGNED ENGINE WAS AS ALL DUNTOV INNOVATIONS A MASTER PIECE. HE SAVED THE CORVETTE IN 1955 BY CONVINCING GM EXECS TO ALLOW HIM TO PUT BILL KNUTSON'S NEW 265 CU IN CHEVY V8 IN THE VETTE AND HE DID .HE ALSO DESIGNED THE 348 AND 409 REAL WEDGE HEAD ENGINE THAT SOME HOW THE DODGE CHRYSLER ENGINES GOT THAT NAME.NEXT TIME YOU SEE A 348/ 409 LOOK TO WERE THE SPARK PLUGS ARE ,THEY FACE EACH OTHER MAKING A WEDGE IN THE HEAD.STUPID DUMP AUTO WRITER WHO NEVER WRENCHED A CAR IN THEIR LIFE NAMED THE 440 CHRYSLER A WEDGE HEAD .BECAUSE OF THE SLANT OF THE ENTIRE HEAD.NO WEDGE IN SIGHT!!
hello if you still are in ownership of car can you snap a shot of underneath the rear 1/4 panel towards the front im in the middle of putting my car back together and i think i'm missing some sort of splash guard that gets bolted to the body and then the 1/4 panel would go on after
NIce specimen but '53 Buick style lagged Lincoln's streamlining and bumper grille by a few years and the Dynaflow wasted a lot of power... I'm a GM guy but I'll take a Pan American Lincoln
Looking forward to picking up this car from whoever buys it as an investment after they realize they can't enjoy an investment when it has to just sit there, and i pick it up for a song
