My husband had all the warning signs had suffered reflux and taken meds for years, was suffering pain up under his ribs radiating into his back all the RED FLAGS that we now know about. His Doctor didn't,wouldn't listen to him, was told all the time it was in his head and he needed to pull himself together and even told me to admit him into a metal hospital that's right a mental hospital!! When my husband was rushed to hospital he even told the staff there's nothing you can do it's in my head. 1hr later he was told he was dying of this cancer and nothing could be done he only lived 7wks. The saddest part of all of this was when he was diagnosed he was so happy and so relieved because as he said it meant he wasn't insane? That broke my heart into a million pieces and hurts even more then losing him. The shocking treatment dished out by this doctor was devastating to my husband. We are always told watch for any signs but then when we do, we can only hope you have a doctor that cares enough and you will get the treatment you are needing. We are broken hearted as we have lost a wonderful man. He was a non smoker, light drinker. He had only turn 58

I hear this wayyyy too much and have evdn dealt with similar, these facilities and professionals need to be held liable and accountable, they get off wayyyyy too easy and their arrogance or ignorance are hurting peoples lives and families

We promised my husband we would take action as he never wanted another person to be treated the way he was. It's also the aftermath that it caused. I received my diagnosis of esophageal cancer this afternoon, and am very scared. The survival rate of 5 year isn't at all great. I'm grateful my sons are raised, but at 58, I'm not ready to die.
My mother had esophageal cancer. She must have been experiencing symptoms, but she never spoke of them. She was getting a lot of heartburn, so she saw a gastroenterologist, finally, and she was diagnosed with Stage 4 esophgeal cancer. It had spread into her liver and into her bones. She was originally given 3-6 months to live; instead, she died just 40 days after diagnosis. It was as though she had just given up and let the cancer take her. It's been 8 years now, and I still miss her ever so much.
Some doctors may consider it to be just GERD. It is sad and horrible really. When you know that something is going wrong with you, but they don't pay attention to you or really hear you. I pray that everyone that have any of these issues get the proper diagnosis and treated properly in the mighty and matchless name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth. Amen.
Claire Jevron I wholeheartedly agree, I wish we were listened to. I was hospitalised for 15 days with deranged liver. Diagnosed with Choledochal Cyst, bile duct cyst. I've suffered for so many years with gastrointestinal problems. Bile Duct could apparently be causing this. I understood Endoscopy with referral to Surgeon was pretty urgent. The condition in older women, I am 69, was 68 when diagnosed, has high risk of causing Cancer. I heard nothing. Decided I would push. Rang Const Sec after being told Endoscopies weren't being done at present. She had me an appt within days, no surprise to find very inflamed stomach top of intestine? That was done 16/5/19. I phoned again left message in June, again, 1/7/19. I appreciate this is a rare condition, so very little about hereditary factors is known. At my review 6 weeks after hospitalisation when it was again confirmed what was going to be done, I confirmed my Mother suffered for years very similar symptoms to me passed day after 74th birthday of primary Liver Cancer living over 5ths longer than predicted because of her advanced condition. I really feel no one is listening. However, I'm pushing on, despite being virtually bedbound, nausea and sickness plus other health issues are overwhelming. Every time I've seen a Dr I've mentioned I'm coughing a lot. Generally my inhalers stop any cough quickly, I'm a coughing asthmatic, COPD - I've never smoked in my life and don't drink, I am vegetarian, eat healthily have never drank Colas etc, I drink water, made every effort to stay fit. I've Lupus with everything it can throw at me. I'm not giving up. I didn't look after myself all these years to continue to be ignored. I will get someone, somewhere this time to actually listen and act, particularly as In 4 weeks I had unusually high weight gain. To be blunt, I look as if I'm about to give birth, this happened approx 9 days before admission. I see my GP tomorrow, she is excellent. I will not go to the one who told my sister in law about 3yrs ago, well these things happen with age. She was 70 a few weeks ago. The GP who said that is older, I think possibly 75, fit as a fiddle. She was shocked when I pointed this out. She now cannot even get to the car on her crutches. Even I, not medically trained can see she needs 2 Hip replacements. A lady who will be 90 in a couple of weeks had a knee replacement approx 82, a hip replacement 3/4yrs ago, just lately having more difficulty going out, but is out on a pretty regular basis, unlike me, not to Dr's, Dentist and Hospital, shopping. Which I cannot do. Who decides who needs what? Well, someone is going to listen. As I will write direct to Consultants involved and demand attention. I started to work Fri evenings all day Saturdays 8am to 6pm or later aged 11. Always worked, paid high Tax Rate for many many years due to personal reasons was left with little. I can hack that, I always lived frugally. What I do not like is needing help, having to beg for it myself. I live in UK also.

Had an endoscopy in July, they found something but not telling me yet. Appointment with consultant gastroenterologist was cancelled because they want to do another endoscopy on 10th October 19. God knows when will I get to see a consultant to know my diagnosis. Every single day I m in excruciating stomach pain and can’t eat normal food dinner etc, only smoothie, and bananas, feels like turning in to a real monkey soon. On first test they said it could be nasty, so now second test who knows, feels scary of the unknown, but Keeping strong. So blessings to all of us.
Its bad doctors don't care did a bone scan 20 hot spots suposto investigate it. Never did and before scan marked artherites never looked at bone. Flunked cancer test and immune doc called not high enough to treat. Looked up You flunk kappa and lambda. Ratio bone biopse. The rise in reflux and esophageal cancer is 100% due to diet. Foods with low nutrient density lowers our bodies ability to produce the needed enzymes to break down our food for digestion. Not only that, our poor diets are causing microbiome imbalances in our intestines further compounding the problem. Processed grains and processed oils are the leading offenders. Additives like sweeteners and meat treated with antibiotics. Improperly prepared foods, the list goes on and on. Our diets are killing us.
Id say the biggest influence is in preserving our food. In the 70s the USDA made a law to include citric acid in canning to further preserve food and right after that is when cancer rates started increasing

Don't forget the smoking of tobacco, which is a major contributing factor here. Also. it can be positional, meaning if you lay down before your stomach contents are emptied, the gastric contents spill into the esophagus & cause erosion, as acids to digest have a caustic effect on the delicate tissue lining the esophagus. Alcohol is a big contributing factor here as well, as alcohol can relax the sphincter at the top of the stomach, allowing the contents to leak out of the top.
My 44 yo nephew was diagnosed today with stage 4 esophageal cancer. We are devastated! It’s bad, he has lost 45 lbs and dr says he’s had this for at least a year and 1/2. Has a huge tumor in esophagus so large they couldn’t get the endoscope past it. He cannot swallow food and has 4 ensure drinks a day. He thought he had GERD. Please get checked out early over any sign. You know your body better than anyone!
I was experiencing acid reflux at least twice a week for the last year, especially when I was under stress. When I went for my first medicare visit, I was diagnosed with prediabetes. At that moment, I researched and started a Keto (moderate) diet, I did not notice it at first, but miraculously my acid reflux stopped. I only get a bit of discomfort when I eat more carbs than I allow myself (30-50/day). Just stop the overconsumption of carbs (processed and refined products (sugar)) You will see the difference. I am no longer prediabetic either. I guess I was meant to get to this point to prevent further damage to my health.
@@susanmonty791 No, at least not in my body chemistry. I actually was eating more veggies than animal products before, and still had the reflux. Now on mostly animal base diet, the acid reflux is no longer a problem. Still consume some veggies and fruits, but they are only lie 10% of my diet. I can drink coffee on an empty stomach now without any stomach issues. Not saying your suggestion is wrong for others, but for me mostly alkaline is not the way to go.
You can be scoped without any sedation. I was. I was offered a numbing agent, not general sedation, but I didn't think it necessary. The scope is irritating. I involuntarily teared up, but it is a two on a scale of ten for discomfort.
Husband had three month review after oesophectomy on April 30th this year. Big operation and stormy post op but he has been told no further treatment required. Radical choice to prevent further spread of Barrett's which had become carcinoma. A resection had removed tumour but margins slim near lymphs. We are lucky having a wonderful NHS here in the UK and a fantastic hospital in Cambridge.
I lost my beautiful love to this cancer....my whole future went with him that day...our hopes and dreams shattered. I miss him daily. Please be aware of the symptoms 💔

I had acid reflux for a while. Was taking over the counter meds just as long until doctor prescribed something stronger. Then I just got fed up taking a pill for something I could fix. I changed my diet dramatically, quit smoking, quit drinking and voila, no more reflux issues. The BIGGEST change I did was eating salads daily. THAT was instant fix for me. I was never a hard smoker but that certainly didn't help at all.

This may be a reasonable test to check for the presence of Barrett's but now the patient needs to get an endoscopy anyway for biopsies. If you are symptomatic, it's better to just go for the endoscopy. 1) it is a better scope with better visualization (LED, narrow band imaging, ability to take pictures, etc.), 2) the endoscopist and staff are able to take a wide range of biopsies, and 3) it's a 5 minute procedure and the sedation involved metabolizes very quickly and is very safe (though there are risks with everything) - and it allows for a better exam because the patient is relaxed. If you are diagnosed with Barrett's typically you need to go for surveillance endoscopies every 1-3 years depending on the surface area that is affected in the lower esophagus.

My endoscopy in 2018 for Barrett's Esophagus was ok but I retest in 2021 and usually every 2 years. I noticed the MD said to do the test every year, I guess my insurance company is trying to save $$$
That test remind me of the manometry test. It wasn't painful, but it was uncomfortable. The manometry didn't have a camera attached to it if my memory serves me correctly.

Acid reflux can be due to gluten. Gluten/GMO may hurt the gut lining. Acid blockers like tums etc. are not the answer since the person has low stomach acid and then burps up the undigested food. Lost my best friend in 6 weeks.Married in the john eastwood hospice,as we had booked our wedding in 3 monthes but was allowed to marry in 24 hours but they managed to stabilised him for a few weeks more.he just had trouble swallowing.
I am so sorry. I lost my husband of 38 years last June. He had surgery, chemo, and radiation, but it took him anyway. First symptoms were hiccups when he ate, then trouble swallowing. But he had reported terrible reflux to his doctors for years and not one ever suggested a scope.
Its not Barrett..its Barretts...and its a precancerous condition. Not everyone who has it develops cancer. I have had it for ten years or more. Not much one can do after those cells change
I had this test done to me in 2013 for the same symthom I have now all they said was my throat is lumpy but no cancer well now my swallowing is still bothering me feels like something stuck in the back. I don't have trouble with actual swallowing but there just always the feeling of food stuck in the back.... And my voice is changing so I'm going in to do another one....

I went in for a colonoscopy a nurse there keep asking me to get a E.G.D done I finally agreed, a week later I had the test done the Dr. Knew then he told my mother "IT DONT LOOK GOOD" The next day they called me in to the office it WAS CANCER. After staging it it turned out to be. T2 N1 M0.stage 2 maybe late 2 anyway IF they had listened way back or I had pushed harder it might not have been that far. But on the Brighter side I Didn't have the surgery. And 8 YEARS LATER I'M STILL HERE . If you feel something isn't right, Fight. Make them do their jobs. i need a new hospital...9 years later (2021) and they still did an escope (or whatever they call it) exam on me...and i have the perfect nose for this test above...maybe the fact they took a sample is the difference..would have been so much easier...me thinks im in trouble...thats ok - im looking forward to meeting my GOD....i just dont want to die in pain...theres all kinds of info on treatment but nothing on "no treatment"...refusing treatment...how long till i die...how much pain will there be..ect..guess i will be finding out...
Just great. I'm feeling these symptoms and I have to wait anywhere from six to eighteen months to get tested where I live because of the pandemic. Isn't modern medicine great when you can't afford or access health care?
My uncle and then my father had esophageal cancer. At the time I worked for surgery and Trauma. I figured out that those that have esophageal cancer have been around chemicals at some point in their life, they smoked, they have a hiatal hernia, which causes reflux, first you get Barrett's syndrome then it turns into cancer. Also most people had a little belly on them.

My best friend growing up died @61 from it. Had bad habits of smoking and drinking. Had acid reflux too. Another friend died @47 after undergoing a heart bypass and the Dr's discovered the condition. Damn you Kools and Salem's!

My daughter was 12 when see was told she has gerd she is now 15...she also had to have her gallbladder removed and has fishers / hemorrhoids aften and they give her pills to take when needed. This all scares me cause she been through this and told its gerd. She also has chronic constipation has a hard time getting her poo out. Shes seen 3 different doctors and all just give her pills, to help her poo, for her gerd, and bum cream and I'm still taking her to her family doctor with the same problems aften and just gives her more pills. 😢
Thanks for the info, i'm going through it right now, it started 2 weeks ago i couldn't swallow rice and if i did it stay in got scare because i couldn't swallow the rice, but other things i could then today i had chicken soup and while i was eating the piece of chicken i couldn't swallow it well it got stuck in my troat, i'm calling the dr. today this things worries me.

That exact thing has happened to me 2 times of going to the hospital...The healthcare industry is a mess...They were supposed to do a brain scan because my nipples were discharging different color thick milky substance ( sorry TMI) but they didn't do it just did a stomach scan and went " ok nothing is going on with stomach !" I have never felt so rushed ...They didn't even address my discharge or the fact that my liver is enlarged 19 percent!! How can you not tell someone their liver is enlarged !!!!? And so many of my blood work is either high or abnormal now I am all kinds of cancer signs and symptoms and I wish I could she them for not treating me properly...God bless you❣️
Lenny Anders You are not right I’m afraid. It is caused by many things, but primarily it is a motility disorder causing stomach acid which IS HCl to go back upwards into the esophagus. Having more acid can certainly exacerbate that. And if you try taking hydrochloride acid orally you’ll burn holes in your mouth and esophagus The pH is extremely low and it is the strongest acid in the body. How do you suggest taking it?
@@kkdoc7864 You can take HCL in the form of a Betaine Hydrochloride supplement. It's perfectly safe and promotes optimal gastric acidity. Teenagers have the most acidity in their stomachs and if there really was a problem with too much stomach acid then teenagers would be popping Tums all day.
Lenny Anders Acid reflux is not about the amount of acid as I mentioned before. It is a motility issue. And all treatment for gastritis to ulcers to reflux all center on decreasing the production of acid in the stomach. PPI’s are used extensively for this purpose and have been proven to alleviate symptoms and allow ulcers to heal. I’m not understanding any rationale for adding more acid in that setting.
I have had trouble swallowing food for years, and now it's daily I choke and vomit. I had the barrium test done years ago, showing nothing. I go for this procedure in three weeks time. So I'm a little worried...
They found oesophagitis (probably from food allergies), and a hiatus hernia. Am to take tablets to reduce acid reflux. They also did a colonoscopy and found polyps and a redundant colon (extra long colon that loops) which probably caused the hiatus hernia, pushing upward. Explains the pain and constipation. Now to have major surgery to have the extra length removed and see how I cope with the HH. Diet change also.
You have to get your gut healthy and remove gluten, wheat, MSG, high fructose corn syrup and sugar if possible out of your diet. You need to eat an alkaline diet because if you are having gerd than you are acidic.try a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar for your GERD and if that doesn't help then go the other way and take a little bit of baking soda in water. It will put the fire out. I wrote this before I realize that they told everything I just said about Barrett's. I'm going to start LDN low dose naltrexone in a couple of days for my autoimmune disease but it helps with all autoimmune diseases including cancer!
My uncle and my father who had esophageal cancer may have drank alcohol as a very young man but not after late their twenties. But my father did drink Coca-Cola and would take aspirin with his Coca-Cola. He was also near a railroad train that was leaking chlorine, esophageal reflux, and a belly on him. Somehow chemicals are almost always involved.
I need help I don’t know if I have this. I went to the doctor and they said there was nothing wrong. I hope I don’t have this and I think maybe because I’m only a 15 year old female
Aayushman Gurung Do not listen to untrained diagnosticians here. The best advice I can give is see a pulmonologist. If your insurance requires a referral from your primary doc, then by all means get a better one. He can’t say it’s GERD or panic attacks until significant testing is done.
I had this test done and they lie this test way very very painful I gagged my ass off did it once finally gotton threw it then they wanted me to do it a second time right after the first I couldn't do it they sent me home it is not pain free

sean b you need checked as soon as you can. I've had acid reflux 23 year's after 800mg of motrin 3 times a day and ulcers. I now have Barrett's Esophagus and my Dr cks me every year. I need a electric bed. I noticed a wet pillow. So juices came out of my throat at night and you can get the juices in your lungs and suffucate in your sleep!! Be aware, be safe and get checked!
So I'm thin, dont smoke and dont drink but on occasion for passover and such.... not much I can change except the actual diet. Grandfather just passed from esophagus cancer....
Well, soda definitely has some terrible chemicals that erode the lining of our stomachs so really try to cut way down, plus drink naturally flavored seltzer waters~They even have a line at Kroger's that have zero chemicals or sugar, and it tastes a lot like Dr. Pepper, which is my favorite😋:) Because I already have terrible Gastritis from Lupus and a Hiatal Hernia, no longer drinking any regular soda drinks and never liked alcohol so that is not a big deal... Now chocolate is my vice, and it also can cause a lot of acid, yet guess we have to pick our battles🍫!! Eating & drinking healthy as possible makes us ALL feel better, and hopefully, add good, quality years to our lives~Blessings🙏❣:)

My mother had esophageal cancer. She must have been experiencing symptoms, but she never spoke of them. She was getting a lot of heartburn, so she saw a gastroenterologist, finally, and she was diagnosed with Stage 4 esophgeal cancer. It had spread into her liver and into her bones. She was originally given 3-6 months to live; instead, she died just 40 days after diagnosis. It was as though she had just given up and let the cancer take her. It's been 8 years now, and I still miss her ever so much.

Some doctors may consider it to be just GERD. It is sad and horrible really. When you know that something is going wrong with you, but they don't pay attention to you or really hear you. Claire Jevron I wholeheartedly agree, I wish we were listened to. I was hospitalised for 15 days with deranged liver. Diagnosed with Choledochal Cyst, bile duct cyst. I've suffered for so many years with gastrointestinal problems. Bile Duct could apparently be causing this. I understood Endoscopy with referral to Surgeon was pretty urgent. The condition in older women, I am 69, was 68 when diagnosed, has high risk of causing Cancer. I heard nothing. Decided I would push. Rang Const Sec after being told Endoscopies weren't being done at present. She had me an appt within days, no surprise to find very inflamed stomach top of intestine? That was done 16/5/19. I phoned again left message in June, again, 1/7/19. I appreciate this is a rare condition, so very little about hereditary factors is known. At my review 6 weeks after hospitalisation when it was again confirmed what was going to be done, I confirmed my Mother suffered for years very similar symptoms to me passed day after 74th birthday of primary Liver Cancer living over 5ths longer than predicted because of her advanced condition.
I really feel no one is listening. However, I'm pushing on, despite being virtually bedbound, nausea and sickness plus other health issues are overwhelming.
Every time I've seen a Dr I've mentioned I'm coughing a lot. Generally my inhalers stop any cough quickly, I'm a coughing asthmatic, COPD - I've never smoked in my life and don't drink, I am vegetarian, eat healthily have never drank Colas etc, I drink water, made every effort to stay fit. I've Lupus with everything it can throw at me.
I'm not giving up. I didn't look after myself all these years to continue to be ignored.
I will get someone, somewhere this time to actually listen and act, particularly as In 4 weeks I had unusually high weight gain. To be blunt, I look as if I'm about to give birth, this happened approx 9 days before admission.
I see my GP tomorrow, she is excellent.
I will not go to the one who told my sister in law about 3yrs ago, well these things happen with age. She was 70 a few weeks ago. The GP who said that is older, I think possibly 75, fit as a fiddle. She was shocked when I pointed this out.
She now cannot even get to the car on her crutches.
Even I, not medically trained can see she needs 2 Hip replacements.
A lady who will be 90 in a couple of weeks had a knee replacement approx 82, a hip replacement 3/4yrs ago, just lately having more difficulty going out, but is out on a pretty regular basis, unlike me, not to Dr's, Dentist and Hospital, shopping. Which I cannot do.

Same here been admitted in hospital in June 19, coughing blood from stomach.
Had an endoscopy in July, they found something but not telling me yet. Appointment with consultant gastroenterologist was cancelled because they want to do another endoscopy on 10th October 19. God knows when will I get to see a consultant to know my diagnosis.
Every single day I m in excruciating stomach pain and can’t eat normal food dinner etc, only smoothie, and bananas, feels like turning in to a real monkey soon.
On first test they said it could be nasty, so now second test who knows, feels scary of the unknown, but Keeping strong.

The rise in reflux and esophageal cancer is 100% due to diet. Foods with low nutrient density lowers our bodies ability to produce the needed enzymes to break down our food for digestion. Not only that, our poor diets are causing microbiome imbalances in our intestines further compounding the problem. Processed grains and processed oils are the leading offenders. Additives like sweeteners and meat treated with antibiotics. Improperly prepared foods, the list goes on and on.
Our diets are killing us.
Id say the biggest influence is in preserving our food. In the 70s the USDA made a law to include citric acid in canning to further preserve food and right after that is when cancer rates started increasing

I’m 143 lbs, never smoked a cigarette in my life and have on average 3-5 drinks a week. I’m not buying it.
Don't forget the smoking of tobacco, which is a major contributing factor here. Also. it can be positional, meaning if you lay down before your stomach contents are emptied, the gastric contents spill into the esophagus & cause erosion, as acids to digest have a caustic effect on the delicate tissue lining the esophagus. Alcohol is a big contributing factor here as well, as alcohol can relax the sphincter at the top of the stomach, allowing the contents to leak out of the top.

My 44 yo nephew was diagnosed today with stage 4 esophageal cancer. We are devastated! It’s bad, he has lost 45 lbs and dr says he’s had this for at least a year and 1/2. Has a huge tumor in esophagus so large they couldn’t get the endoscope past it. He cannot swallow food and has 4 ensure drinks a day. He thought he had GERD. Please get checked out early over any sign. You know your body better than anyone!

I was experiencing acid reflux at least twice a week for the last year, especially when I was under stress. When I went for my first medicare visit, I was diagnosed with prediabetes. At that moment, I researched and started a Keto (moderate) diet, I did not notice it at first, but miraculously my acid reflux stopped. I only get a bit of discomfort when I eat more carbs than I allow myself (30-50/day). Just stop the overconsumption of carbs (processed and refined products (sugar)) You will see the difference. I am no longer prediabetic either. I guess I was meant to get to this point to prevent further damage to my health.
Stay alkaline and avoid coffee, red sauce, alcohol
@@susanmonty791 No, at least not in my body chemistry. I actually was eating more veggies than animal products before, and still had the reflux. Now on mostly animal base diet, the acid reflux is no longer a problem. Still consume some veggies and fruits, but they are only lie 10% of my diet. I can drink coffee on an empty stomach now without any stomach issues. Not saying your suggestion is wrong for others, but for me mostly alkaline is not the way to go.
You can be scoped without any sedation. I was. I was offered a numbing agent, not general sedation, but I didn't think it necessary. The scope is irritating. I involuntarily teared up, but it is a two on a scale of ten for discomfort.

Husband had three month review after oesophectomy on April 30th this year. Big operation and stormy post op but he has been told no further treatment required. Radical choice to prevent further spread of Barrett's which had become carcinoma. A resection had removed tumour but margins slim near lymphs. We are lucky having a wonderful NHS here in the UK and a fantastic hospital in Cambridge.

I had acid reflux for a while. Was taking over the counter meds just as long until doctor prescribed something stronger. Then I just got fed up taking a pill for something I could fix. I changed my diet dramatically, quit smoking, quit drinking and voila, no more reflux issues. The BIGGEST change I did was eating salads daily. THAT was instant fix for me. I was never a hard smoker but that certainly didn't help at all.

My dad has been diagnosed with Barrett's and is being monitored with regular checks.
This may be a reasonable test to check for the presence of Barrett's but now the patient needs to get an endoscopy anyway for biopsies. If you are symptomatic, it's better to just go for the endoscopy. 1) it is a better scope with better visualization (LED, narrow band imaging, ability to take pictures, etc.), 2) the endoscopist and staff are able to take a wide range of biopsies, and 3) it's a 5 minute procedure and the sedation involved metabolizes very quickly and is very safe (though there are risks with everything) - and it allows for a better exam because the patient is relaxed. If you are diagnosed with Barrett's typically you need to go for surveillance endoscopies every 1-3 years depending on the surface area that is affected in the lower esophagus.

My endoscopy in 2018 for Barrett's Esophagus was ok but I retest in 2021 and usually every 2 years. I noticed the MD said to do the test every year, I guess my insurance company is trying to save $$$

That test remind me of the manometry test. It wasn't painful, but it was uncomfortable. The manometry didn't have a camera attached to it if my memory serves me correctly.

Acid reflux can be due to gluten. Gluten/GMO may hurt the gut lining. Acid blockers like tums etc. are not the answer since the person has low stomach acid and then burps up the undigested food. Lost my best friend in 6 weeks.Married in the john eastwood hospice,as we had booked our wedding in 3 monthes but was allowed to marry in 24 hours but they managed to stabilised him for a few weeks more.he just had trouble swallowing.
I am so sorry. I lost my husband of 38 years last June. He had surgery, chemo, and radiation, but it took him anyway. First symptoms were hiccups when he ate, then trouble swallowing. But he had reported terrible reflux to his doctors for years and not one ever suggested a scope.

Its not Barrett..its Barretts...and its a precancerous condition. Not everyone who has it develops cancer. I have had it for ten years or more. Not much one can do after those cells change

I had this test done to me in 2013 for the same symthom I have now all they said was my throat is lumpy but no cancer well now my swallowing is still bothering me feels like something stuck in the back. I don't have trouble with actual swallowing but there just always the feeling of food stuck in the back.... And my voice is changing so I'm going in to do another one....

I went in for a colonoscopy a nurse there keep asking me to get a E.G.D done I finally agreed, a week later I had the test done the Dr. Knew then he told my mother "IT DONT LOOK GOOD" The next day they called me in to the office it WAS CANCER. After staging it it turned out to be. T2 N1 M0.stage 2 maybe late 2 anyway IF they had listened way back or I had pushed harder it might not have been that far. But on the Brighter side I Didn't have the surgery. And 8 YEARS LATER I'M STILL HERE .

My uncle and then my father had esophageal cancer. At the time I worked for surgery and Trauma. I figured out that those that have esophageal cancer have been around chemicals at some point in their life, they smoked, they have a hiatal hernia, which causes reflux, first you get Barrett's syndrome then it turns into cancer. Also most people had a little belly on them.
My dad had this. He died in '97.

My daughter was 12 when see was told she has gerd she is now 15...she also had to have her gallbladder removed and has fishers / hemorrhoids aften and they give her pills to take when needed. This all scares me cause she been through this and told its gerd. She also has chronic constipation has a hard time getting her poo out. Shes seen 3 different doctors and all just give her pills, to help her poo, for her gerd, and bum cream and I'm still taking her to her family doctor with the same problems aften and just gives her more pills. 😢

Thanks for the info, i'm going through it right now, it started 2 weeks ago i couldn't swallow rice and if i did it stay in got scare because i couldn't swallow the rice, but other things i could then today i had chicken soup and while i was eating the piece of chicken i couldn't swallow it well it got stuck in my troat, i'm calling the dr. today this things worries me.

What they dont tell you is when you go to the Doctor they always say oh you have anxiety dont worry about it until it you get to the advanced stages.
That exact thing has happened to me 2 times of going to the hospital...The healthcare industry is a mess...They were supposed to do a brain scan because my nipples were discharging different color thick milky substance ( sorry TMI) but they didn't do it just did a stomach scan and went " ok nothing is going on with stomach !" I have never felt so rushed ...They didn't even address my discharge or the fact that my liver is enlarged 19 percent!! How can you not tell someone their liver is enlarged !!!!? And so many of my blood work is either high or abnormal now I am all kinds of cancer signs and symptoms and I wish I could she them for not treating me properly...God bless you❣️

Lenny Anders You are not right I’m afraid. It is caused by many things, but primarily it is a motility disorder causing stomach acid which IS HCl to go back upwards into the esophagus. Having more acid can certainly exacerbate that. And if you try taking hydrochloride acid orally you’ll burn holes in your mouth and esophagus The pH is extremely low and it is the strongest acid in the body. How do you suggest taking it?
@@kkdoc7864 You can take HCL in the form of a Betaine Hydrochloride supplement. It's perfectly safe and promotes optimal gastric acidity. Teenagers have the most acidity in their stomachs and if there really was a problem with too much stomach acid then teenagers would be popping Tums all day.
Lenny Anders Acid reflux is not about the amount of acid as I mentioned before. It is a motility issue. And all treatment for gastritis to ulcers to reflux all center on decreasing the production of acid in the stomach. PPI’s are used extensively for this purpose and have been proven to alleviate symptoms and allow ulcers to heal. I’m not understanding any rationale for adding more acid in that setting.
I have had trouble swallowing food for years, and now it's daily I choke and vomit. I had the barrium test done years ago, showing nothing. I go for this procedure in three weeks time. So I'm a little worried...

Any update?
They found oesophagitis (probably from food allergies), and a hiatus hernia. Am to take tablets to reduce acid reflux. They also did a colonoscopy and found polyps and a redundant colon (extra long colon that loops) which probably caused the hiatus hernia, pushing upward. Explains the pain and constipation. Now to have major surgery to have the extra length removed and see how I cope with the HH. Diet change also.

You have to get your gut healthy and remove gluten, wheat, MSG, high fructose corn syrup and sugar if possible out of your diet. You need to eat an alkaline diet because if you are having gerd than you are acidic.try a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar for your GERD and if that doesn't help then go the other way and take a little bit of baking soda in water. It will put the fire out. I wrote this before I realize that they told everything I just said about Barrett's. I'm going to start LDN low dose naltrexone in a couple of days for my autoimmune disease but it helps with all autoimmune diseases including cancer!

My uncle and my father who had esophageal cancer may have drank alcohol as a very young man but not after late their twenties. But my father did drink Coca-Cola and would take aspirin with his Coca-Cola. He was also near a railroad train that was leaking chlorine, esophageal reflux, and a belly on him. Somehow chemicals are almost always involved.

I had an endoscopy done and they said all I had was Gerd. But sometimes I have trouble swallowing should I go back?
no you shouldnt this is because of gerd.Continue to drink PPI and Antacids aprx 2-10 weeks

Aayushman Gurung Do not listen to untrained diagnosticians here. The best advice I can give is see a pulmonologist. If your insurance requires a referral from your primary doc, then by all means get a better one. He can’t say it’s GERD or panic attacks until significant testing is done.
I had this test done and they lie this test way very very painful I gagged my ass off did it once finally gotton threw it then they wanted me to do it a second time right after the first I couldn't do it they sent me home it is not pain free

bread is the worst for acid reflux, It does causes more acid.
sean b you need checked as soon as you can. I've had acid reflux 23 year's after 800mg of motrin 3 times a day and ulcers. I now have Barrett's Esophagus and my Dr cks me every year. I need a electric bed. I noticed a wet pillow. So juices came out of my throat at night and you can get the juices in your lungs and suffucate in your sleep!!

the lining of our stomachs so really try to cut way down, plus drink naturally flavored seltzer

Kroger's that have zero chemicals or sugar, and it tastes a lot like Dr.
Pepper, which is my favorite😋:)
Because I already have terrible Gastritis from Lupus and a Hiatal Hernia, no longer drinking any regular soda drinks and never liked alcohol so that is not a big deal...
Now chocolate is my vice, and it also can cause a lot of acid, yet guess we have to pick our battles🍫!! Eating & drinking healthy as possible makes us ALL feel better, and hopefully, add good, quality years to our lives~Blessings🙏❣:)

@@Sarah33Kaufman I is definately not contagious ,!!no cancer is contagious ,in some cancers ,like breast cancers ,they can be genetic elements to them ,but not all, !!depending on what type you have ,Cancers are toxic cells your body make ,and for some reason mutate and invade healthy ones ,it happens within that person, it is NOT a contagion illness ,that means it's not passed on to other individuals , ie; catching it !!
