It all comes down to who is promoted most. The more the industry pushes certain artists, the more they will be accepted. I'm convinced that people will like whatever is fed to them as long as the music is relatable, catchy, recorded/mixed well, and the singer has a decent voice. There are tons of great artists that fit this model and never get the same recognition as those that are chosen by the industry to advance.
Tinashe and FKA Twigs are examples of amazing artists who's record label chooses not to promote them as they deserve.

Made me think of the times over the years I've been out at some noisy, crowded club at 2 or 3am, drunk and mellow, wondering "Is this as good as it gets?" and feeling as if I'd rather be home in bed- while all around me people dance to yet another "Everybody party/ pop bottles/ get wasted/ grab someone and shake your booty" cookie cutter Top 40 tune I couldn't give a fuck about...

Tinashe could EASILY be one of the biggest stars on the planet with the right songs in her discography. In all honesty Tinashe just hasn't made a better or equivalent single to her debut "2 On". I'm worried about her. I hope she really understand her 'ceiling' and how talented she is cuz she could really become iconic in this era. Tinashe has everything needed to become that; the look, personality, voice charisma, likability, she's relatable and a great performer. Not to mention she is sooooo young. I believe in her tho
