AH! The 70's! I loved the song and still sing it to myself at the odd moment. The whole song wasn't played during the ride. Mostly just the "If you had wings" parts, the Spanish accented guy singing, and the marimba playing from what I recall. I remember the flamingo crossing with that white hat guy. I remember at the end, the seat tilting back and wind blowing.
This is that haunting ride. I went on when Disney World in Florida first opened up. It's just been in my brain and I forgot where I had heard it from and then I stumbled upon this video, looking at old Disney World videos, the ride had those seagulls being projected on the walls of the rooms wherever you went. And it reminded me of - it's a small world - but a better version....had wings, had wings, had wings ....thank you so much for this mind candy❤❤❤

@Elgatovolar = So nicely put. My parents would be dragging, and us kiddies would go on this FREE ride over and OVER. And then sing it all the way home. Quite soothing - if you are on ACID!
I was an electrician at WDW in the early 70's...as soon as it got dark is when young people lit up...the first turn, there was someone behind you...lol, it was the 70's!!!
Ahhh yesss... relaxing. Simple pleasures. My family lived in Orlando. When we went, maybe every two years or so, we'd always get to the park as soon as it opened and leave when it closed. I guess Dad wanted to get his money's worth. So, we'd get to the park and everybody would split up for big chunks of the day. Lines were nowhere NEAR as long as they are today. Eventually, we'd all meet up late at night in Tomorrowland in front of If You Had Wings. Mom and Dad would sit on a planter or bench, completely worn out, while me and my brothers would ride this ride over and over and over again. By that time of night, there were NO lines, and the employees usually just let you remain seated as you did yet another lap. It was a mini-vacation experience. Young minds like mine could use our imagination, especially on that part you're talking about. Remember they'd blow fans on you to make you feel like you were moving fast? Ahhhh, yessss... memories.
Our first visit,in '75...I was 12...we saw the sneak preview of this ride while riding the Peoplemover,and I immediately wanted to go on it next. Like "Grim Grinning Ghosts" in the Haunted Mansion,you hear variations on the song throughout the ride.
This was a free attraction back when WDW required tickets to use their rides. Also helped that it was a 5 minute advertisement for Eastern Air Lines complete with a reservation counter post-show. They replaced this with a Delta-themed ride, but the magic was gone.

Best part was the finale where you felt like you were flying over mountains.

Better than sitting outside on a bench... A/C!!! Good place to take a nap too.
