Facts on tiktok. The Chinese version of tiktok doesn't just show silliness all day. In their algorithm they have to watch informative things after a period of time. Also for some the app shuts off at certain times or too much use. They also don't have the unlimited scroll feature ours has which is highly addictive. The unlimited scroll is the equivalent of pulling the handle of a slot machine at a casino. Your brain links pleasure with the next video. It's why you can sit on there for hours. It's also reading your facial expressions to show you things that it determines to be more pleasurable to you.

Black history in the U.K. is in the month of October- which l always sit down and research black history and share with my sons and peers ! And l also research and read aside from black history month in the U.K. . As a white person I just (illegally ;-)) read a great book by Asfa-Wossen Asserate (nephew of Haile Slassie I), bestselling author & professor in Germany ... and I'm just discovering Olive Senior's (Jamaican writer) "Arrival of the snake-woman". She has not only published non-fiction books, but also great poems, short stories and children's literature. I can recommend both authors to those who don't like "fighting" through thick history books, but prefer Ethiopian, African, Caribbean history in an entertaining and exciting form (btw not just in this month but in whole year ;-).
I would like an interesting book about Marcus Garvey in a German translation (my English is not yet good enough for the original) & would be happy to receive a recommendation.

Very interesting, Im not African/Caribbean but I have also started to learn more about my own history by reading books, and let me tell you. The standard narrative of history we are taught is wrong.

A lie that's been pushed so hard in order to get us to believe it. Up until very recently in our history in this criminal enterprise we call the West, we literally risked death willingly to read and learn. That's how much we valued it and we brought that with us, inherent in our cultures. This is what happens when you don't know your history and you don't know who you are.
I will never understand if it's not for school or work no reading gets done. How will you learn. Especially if you don't even take in news(which is often biased and limited)

That’s not true. Carter G Woodson decided that Black history month should be in February to coincide with the birthdays of Lincoln and Frederick Douglas - since they were considered as two huge factors in black American history.

HOMETEAM HISTORY gives us African history every week. A month called 'Black History Month' in the 21st century is absolutely rubbish. Information about the continent and Black people is in our face everyday on the internet. 100 years ago, it was necessary because of the lack of information. Now it's complete rubbish. Almost everyday I am learning something new about the continent and our accomplishments of Black people. That's why a specific month as no meaning for me nowadays. Why reduce our history to the shortest month in the year? Black history, especially ancient African history, is so fascinating.

I take issue with that. All other countries, particularly so called Western countries and those dominated by white supremacist belief systems and institutions, certainly do not incorporate the history of African descended peoples. I'd like some examples of those that do so in any comprehensive way. Not even African school children in many African nations learn the comprehensive history of their own countries and peoples. And yes, black history month certainly started in the United States as black history week, and African peoples throughout the diespera, and on the African continent took their inspiration from the freedom fighters and movements of black people for equality and freedom here in the United States to have the same. There are currently black history month and black consciousness day celebrations in Canada, Ireland, the Netherlands, Britain and Brazil, to name a few.

I absolutely despise that expression regarding black people not reading. Historically and for eons, learning, education, knowledge, and wisdom have been revered in African cultures. It's quite a modern thing, modern being the last few 100 years, to pretend and push the agenda that black people can't or don't want to learn. And yet, even for example, during the most brutal expressions of enslavement in the Americas, when it was a death sentence to try and learn to read, we risked our lives to do so. If that doesn't tell you something, you don't want to know the truth. We have forgotten who we are.
