I was there about 24 years ago. Took better part of day to circle the cobalt blue lake and do just some of the pull overs for photos. I admire your spunk. I had 2 bad knees and couldn't walk well, so thank you SO MUCH for hiking those trails and sharing with me and others. It is at the TOP 5 FAVORITE PLACES I've visited in the West. God bless!!

Finally got to catch up on this during a recent flight. What a beautiful trip, in spite of the weather woes! I especially loved how y'all were prepared and rolling with the less than ideal conditions. Now I'm inspired to check out Wizard Island!

Your good vibes may have kept the other passengers from panicking and certainly was a good counterpoint to their worries. If everyone is worried, it tends to escalate, and the anxiety levels rise.
💯 people tend to feed off of one another. Luckily, it didn’t feel super dire, but one lady was especially panicky in the boat house. I wanted to help keep my son as calm as possible as well. He was like, this is the best part of the whole thing! 😂
@@WanderingSwitchback Yeah, kids rock! I remember when I was a kid, I loved thunderstorms and always wanted to run outside. My parents actually locked the door to keep me from going. My grandmother had mercy on me; she opened the window (European windows you can fully open), and leaning on the window sill, we watched the storm and revelled in the lightning-while my mother locked herself in the bathroom because she was so afraid. However, I would not want to be on the water when a thunderstorm hits. I am a kayaker, and I am fine with rain, though.
So how do you book a boat tour? Everything I see there is no way to make a reservation in 2024. Anybody have any info? Much appreciated.

Last I heard, there was a whole "thing" with Aramarck, and they may lose (or have lost, since it doesn't look like Aramarck is listed on the website) their contract to provide the tours, which may be why they haven't opened up booking yet.
I would also guess that they don't yet know for sure when the trail will be safe to trek down to the lake, but that's 100% speculation on my part.
