    Lyrics
Friends ‎- how many of us have them?
Friends ‎- ones we can depend on
Friends ‎- how many of us have them?
Friends ‎- before we go any further, let's be
    Friends
Is a word we use everyday
Most the time we use it in the wrong way
Now you can look the word up, again and again
But the dictionary doesn't know the meaning of friends
And if you ask me, you know, I couldn't be much help
Because a friend's somebody you judge for yourself
Some are ok, and they treat you real cool
And some mistake your kindness for bein' a fool
We like to be with some, because they're funny
Others come around when they need some money
Some you grew up with, around the way
And you're still real close to this very day
Homeboys through the summer, winter, spring and fall
And then there's some we wish we never knew at all
And this list goes on, again and again
But these are the people that we call friends
    Instrumental
When we first went out together, we barely knew each other
We had no intentions, on becoming lovers
But in no time at all, you became my girl
Me and you, one on one, against the world
Talkin’ on the telephone for hours at a time
Or else I was at your house, or you was at mine
And then came the arguments and all kinds of problems
Besides making love, we had nothing in common
It could've lasted longer because it started out strong
But I guess we went about the whole thing wrong
'Cause out of nowhere it just came to an end
Because we became lovers before we were friends
Friends ‎- how many of us have them?
Friends ‎- ones we can depend on
Friends ‎- how many of us have them?
Friends ‎- before we go any further, let's be
    Friends
You say you and your girlfriend were so tight
You took her out with you and your guy one night
She even had a set of keys to your home
And you shared mostly everything you owned
But then she shook your hand, she stole your man
And it was done so sweet, it had to be a plan
Couldn't trust her with cheese, let alone your keys
With friends like that you don't need enemies
You wonder how long it was all going on
And you’re still not sure if you’re glad he’s gone
You say, well if she took him he was never mine
But deep inside you know that's just another lie
And now you're kinda cold toward people you meet
'Cause of something that was done to you by some creep
But nevertheless, I'll say it again
That these are the people that we call friends
Friends ‎- how many of us have them?
Friends ‎- ones we can depend on
Friends ‎- how many of us have them?
Friends ‎- before we go any further, let's be
    Friends
Friends ‎- how many of us have them?
Friends ‎- ones we can depend on
Friends ‎- how many of us have them?
Friends ‎- before we go any further, let's be
    Friends
Friends ‎- how many of us have them?
Friends ‎- ones we can depend on
Friends ‎- how many of us have them?
Friends ‎- before we go any further

You can tell yourself this 100 more times if you like, and 100 more times you'd be wrong.... I was there when this song came out, this IS my generation.
I have PERSONALLY - WITH MY OWN EYES, seen the old MTv interviews with Whodini, from way back when MTv actually covered Music 24 hrs / day.... and nothing else. In those interviews, Whodini themselves stated that their music was influenced by Funk music of the 70's.
The Hip Hop from those days began with the Puerto Ricans, then developed into the subculture of new age Hip Hop which we know today..... TODAY. - Not the same as the Hip Hop from that era.
But all this aside, some elementary level reading comprehension skills would have suited you with great benefits to have acquired prior to replying to my comment. You see, I didn't say that this WAS funk music, I said it SOUNDED like funk music.
So, the next time you set out on a mission to try and make yourself seem so dam intelligent, perhaps you should ask your 2nd Grade Teacher to help you to read & review the comment which you are about to rebuttal... may help prevent you from looking like a moron disguised as an idiot.

I grew up with these as a kid in the 90's and I've been listening to old-school and freestyle now more than ever, and keeps me on my toes, Whodini is tight!

Man they don't make them like this anymore, I remember when rap had a message a meaning that you could understand with a beat that stayed with you. Sadly the music world is a different place. If you grew up to these jams I'm sure you miss them because they don't play what I love anymore.

I’m 52 and still remember every word. I miss true rap before it became garbage. But there’s a few out there still carrying the torch. Like Tom Macdonald. Merkules. And of course Eminem

I wasn't born yet to go to any of these oldschool jams, I was born in 92, I always imagined how dope it was to experience this live, I want to go to the next freestyle festival next year to get a little taste can't wait 😊🤙

@@frankiejamespinedo7391 good for you mate, we call this old Skool, but when these tracks came out we should remember they weren’t old skool, hence the slang term of the day ‘fresh’, this was cutting edge, along with many other pioneers of hip hop, grand master flash etc, these tracks were hard to find before the internet, only select shows and pirate radio, rap was a brand new genre, but music always evolves, I particularly appreciate the production on this, it was a transitional rap track from pure electro, later hip hop used a lot more sampling (Eric B etc), then around ‘92 when you were born the whole west coast g-rap (Dre snoop etc) took off, but the early 80s rap was just unheard of at the time, unknown, and was strictly east coast New York, peace
But (rip) the likes of Mac Miller and juice wrld still evolved hip hop, but these 80s tracks were pure original, all hip hop was built on this foundation, and so many years later still sounds ‘fresh’, and there was a whole culture, subway art (graffiti), breakdancing, we shouldn’t forget all that, without these pioneers we wouldn’t have Juice Wrld or Mac Miller (rip)

@@jjjos I know they weren't called old school when they came out. And freestyle wasn't unheard of in the west coast alot of people digged it, my family as well as others jammed these since they came out and listened to them well into the 2000's and till this day.
