Lyrics
Friends - how many of us have them?
Friends - ones we can depend on
Friends - how many of us have them?
Friends - before we go any further, let's be
Friends
Is a word we use everyday
Most the time we use it in the wrong way
Now you can look the word up, again and again
But the dictionary doesn't know the meaning of friends
And if you ask me, you know, I couldn't be much help
Because a friend's somebody you judge for yourself
Some are ok, and they treat you real cool
And some mistake your kindness for bein' a fool
We like to be with some, because they're funny
Others come around when they need some money
Some you grew up with, around the way
And you're still real close to this very day
Homeboys through the summer, winter, spring and fall
And then there's some we wish we never knew at all
And this list goes on, again and again
But these are the people that we call friends
Instrumental
When we first went out together, we barely knew each other
We had no intentions, on becoming lovers
But in no time at all, you became my girl
Me and you, one on one, against the world
Talkin’ on the telephone for hours at a time
Or else I was at your house, or you was at mine
And then came the arguments and all kinds of problems
Besides making love, we had nothing in common
It could've lasted longer because it started out strong
But I guess we went about the whole thing wrong
'Cause out of nowhere it just came to an end
Because we became lovers before we were friends
Friends - how many of us have them?
Friends - ones we can depend on
Friends - how many of us have them?
Friends - before we go any further, let's be
Friends
You say you and your girlfriend were so tight
You took her out with you and your guy one night
She even had a set of keys to your home
And you shared mostly everything you owned
But then she shook your hand, she stole your man
And it was done so sweet, it had to be a plan
Couldn't trust her with cheese, let alone your keys
With friends like that you don't need enemies
You wonder how long it was all going on
And you’re still not sure if you’re glad he’s gone
You say, well if she took him he was never mine
But deep inside you know that's just another lie
And now you're kinda cold toward people you meet
'Cause of something that was done to you by some creep
But nevertheless, I'll say it again
That these are the people that we call friends
Friends - how many of us have them?
Friends - ones we can depend on
Friends - how many of us have them?
Friends - before we go any further, let's be
Friends
Friends - how many of us have them?
Friends - ones we can depend on
Friends - how many of us have them?
Friends - before we go any further, let's be
Friends
Friends - how many of us have them?
Friends - ones we can depend on
Friends - how many of us have them?
Friends - before we go any further - Hudba

R.I.P John "Ecstasy" Fletcher! Gone but never forgotten. We love and miss you and thank you for the awesome music and stories your songs told
That brothers voice was unique
That's the real music! The truth! The facts! 💯
I can't believe how good this song still sounds 40 years later. I remember listening to this in the early 80s. But good music like this is timeless.
That beat is kickin'. I love old school shit.
Facts
One of the greatest Classic Hip Hop tracks of all time! Peace to the Old School Heads!!!
Funk. This was much closer to Funk than Hip Hop
K. McIntyre Lol!! This doesn’t sound anything like funk music. This is classic hip hop but they called it freestyle
@@john.wick1 electric guitar throwing u off.. but sounds nothing like funk to me... this is pure HIP HOP!!

You can tell yourself this 100 more times if you like, and 100 more times you'd be wrong.... I was there when this song came out, this IS my generation.
I have PERSONALLY - WITH MY OWN EYES, seen the old MTv interviews with Whodini, from way back when MTv actually covered Music 24 hrs / day.... and nothing else. In those interviews, Whodini themselves stated that their music was influenced by Funk music of the 70's.
The Hip Hop from those days began with the Puerto Ricans, then developed into the subculture of new age Hip Hop which we know today..... TODAY. - Not the same as the Hip Hop from that era.
But all this aside, some elementary level reading comprehension skills would have suited you with great benefits to have acquired prior to replying to my comment. You see, I didn't say that this WAS funk music, I said it SOUNDED like funk music.
So, the next time you set out on a mission to try and make yourself seem so dam intelligent, perhaps you should ask your 2nd Grade Teacher to help you to read & review the comment which you are about to rebuttal... may help prevent you from looking like a moron disguised as an idiot.

I love how this song describes the meanings of friendship and how the different scenarios of life will sort out the true FRIENDS Also love how this timeless jam reminds me of how blessed we were growing up and in an era with real homies in San Joaquin, California 👊🏽💪🏽☝🏽
Lot of morals of this song.
This song was my dads jam…. I remember growing up listening to this all the time…I will forever miss my dad!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I still remember the lyrics to this song, you will never hear such classic old school songs like this these days. old school still rocks for me at age 56, the 80s and 90s were the best times to be alive!

Back when music had a message..

Yea new music is bullcrap
Bro stfu people still put meanings in they songs. And even still songs don’t have to have a meaning. People can have fun wit it and you can’t take away any success they gain for putting out a “meaningful” song. Niggas stay hating
Whodini is one of my Favorite Hip Hop Groups from the early 80's!!! Their Beats were Dope!!! RIP Ecstasy, One of the Greatest voices in HH!!!! The were Trailblazers!!! Look em up, If u are a real Hip Hop Head!! Learn your Hip Hop History!!!!!
Most definitely I'm 39 now
Yeeeeeeee ahight din baleedat forill hommy yahmean
Should be played on repeat on radio.
This track taught me more as a fourteen-year old about conscientiousness than skool ever did. In a way it prepared me for the persistent muddled blundering called life that someday will presumably lead to the exaltation of adulthood. Abangane!
I loved hip hop songs.
🤔🤔
🎚🗣📢 WE ARE REMINISCING BACK WHEN URBAN CULTURE MUSIC HAD A VERY REALISTIC POETIC MEANING AND IT WAS MADE SO BEAUTIFULLY THAT IT STILL CONTINUE'S TO CAPTIVATE OUR EMOTION'S, THIS IS TRULY AN AMAZING MUSICAL MASTERPIECE.
Song can never get old
I love how we can all relate to the lyrics of a song that came out almost 41 years ago
A true timeless classic. Every generation until the end of time can feel this song
Heard this song for the new mcnugget buddies 😭
Thank you. They still don't know the meaning of friend. 🎵🎤❤️
One of the most classic hip hop beats 🔥

Yea, I remember this from 8th grade (in the year of 1984!) and I always loved it. It's too bad that any searches for "Friends" will not end up here... ;(
A hip hop classic with substance! Yep Yeah!
Winter, spring and fall!!..lol
Yes, I have it on LP..lol I was so cool in 1985 rocking this beat as a senior in High School.

Oh maaann....does this bring back memories from as a kid in the 80s❤️👍🔥I miss the breakdancing to this at Valverde elementary talent shows, ha🤘☺️

STILL BUMPING IN 2022. THEY DEFINITELY KNEW EXACTLY WHAT THEY WERE TALKING ABOUT
Exactly homie, shit like his has been going since the dawn of man, take heed.

The beat though 👌🔥
My most favorite of alot old-school is the beats and the lyrics are very serious and relatable as well hardcore 🤘
I haven't heard this song since the 80s, and it randomly popped into my head tonight.
I FORGOT HOW MUCH I LOVE THIS SONG
Great song to vibe out too, you have great taste 👌 ✅️

Moral of this song not everyone is your friend.

🍺😏🌴✨ Just here for a nostalgic visit..
Alot of new hiphop artist claim to be hiphop when they havent even herd of these classic tracks. And no.... being too young is not an excuse educate your self and learn the roots.
I agree, I'm 28, I grew up with these jams, and I don't know why they still call this new shit hip hop, I know what hip hop is and that's not even close. They don't even write their own lyrics anymore. SMH

Coming from a brother from Harlem.
Born in 1970 and of course grew up when hip-hop was invented...
It means alot to me that you feel so , young man !
i feel as if you don't know a select couple of real Hip-Hop songs then you can't claim that you like or listen to Hip-Hop
R.I.P John "Ecstasy" Fletcher 💖
I love, Love, LOVE this song and this group. I miss hearing them and strangely, we never really hear anything about them. A lot of other not so great groups are still in the "news" but not these icons and it always makes me curious... What is up with you all?
Much love & respect, always!
Industry, not quality! For real music lovers - the bummer of our times: the music INDUSTRY.
Next Friday,,, Joker: "STFU! I Dont Even Like Whodini" lol

This song is relevancy now matter when heard. Love it!!!
Damn, I never really appreciated this song back in the day. This is truly some sick sh*t, love the instrumentals
I grew up with these as a kid in the 90's and I've been listening to old-school and freestyle now more than ever, and keeps me on my toes, Whodini is tight!
Boom!
Man they don't make them like this anymore, I remember when rap had a message a meaning that you could understand with a beat that stayed with you. Sadly the music world is a different place. If you grew up to these jams I'm sure you miss them because they don't play what I love anymore.
here in Brazil I played a lot at the dances I love this music
I’m 52 and still remember every word. I miss true rap before it became garbage. But there’s a few out there still carrying the torch. Like Tom Macdonald. Merkules. And of course Eminem
how dare you compare that goof McDonald to Whodini and other classics
So you only listen to white rappers? Bruh
Cringe Tom Macdonald fan

Love music
@THANK GOD FOR ALL THE ENTERTAINERS AROUND THE WORLD.
This is a timeless song, the words are as true today as it was when this record was made.

Cool!!!!!!
They couldve dropped this shit today and sold they voice hit yo soul baby
Stone cold classic nothin more to say, saw them back in fresh ‘86 one for the old skool b boyz
I wasn't born yet to go to any of these oldschool jams, I was born in 92, I always imagined how dope it was to experience this live, I want to go to the next freestyle festival next year to get a little taste can't wait 😊🤙
@@frankiejamespinedo7391 good for you mate, we call this old Skool, but when these tracks came out we should remember they weren’t old skool, hence the slang term of the day ‘fresh’, this was cutting edge, along with many other pioneers of hip hop, grand master flash etc, these tracks were hard to find before the internet, only select shows and pirate radio, rap was a brand new genre, but music always evolves, I particularly appreciate the production on this, it was a transitional rap track from pure electro, later hip hop used a lot more sampling (Eric B etc), then around ‘92 when you were born the whole west coast g-rap (Dre snoop etc) took off, but the early 80s rap was just unheard of at the time, unknown, and was strictly east coast New York, peace
But (rip) the likes of Mac Miller and juice wrld still evolved hip hop, but these 80s tracks were pure original, all hip hop was built on this foundation, and so many years later still sounds ‘fresh’, and there was a whole culture, subway art (graffiti), breakdancing, we shouldn’t forget all that, without these pioneers we wouldn’t have Juice Wrld or Mac Miller (rip)
@@jjjos I know they weren't called old school when they came out. And freestyle wasn't unheard of in the west coast alot of people digged it, my family as well as others jammed these since they came out and listened to them well into the 2000's and till this day.
I used to love this song 👏🏿 👏🏿 👏🏿 👏🏿 👍🏿
