I’m scared as heck on this bridge. I can’t drive across it!

Nice shots. The Bay Bridge in Annapolis is a separate bridge.

Correct. And it’s the one known as the William Preston Lane Jr. Memorial Bridge.

I've driven over that bridge a few times en route to Chincoteague! Beautiful footage including the aerial footage of the highway going underwater! Jazzy music too! :)

Your correct on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge in Annapolis Maryland being William Preston Lane Jr Memorial Bay Bridge. The Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel is Lucius J. Kellam Jr. Bridge-Tunnel and it's very long. The Tunnel parts are very unique in design they were fabricated in a small Texas nearly a long ways away and then they were floating to Norfork to be fitted with concrete and a roadway slab. It's a pretty complicated process to make the Bridge tunnel complex.

You have to put low level trestle to support the weight of the bridge and roadway into the Chesapeake Bay but if you didn't the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel would collapse into the Chesapeake Bay and that would be very costly to replace. fortunately the whole project went pretty smoothly except for a few hiccups that destroyed the Big D with a big storm the crew that were making the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel had to quickly make new Big D from its sisters. Eventually they opened the first span to traffic but they soon realized they needed a new span to handle more traffic flow. In 1995 they started building the second parallel crossing and that span opened to traffic on April 19th 1999.

I’m not familiar with this bridge so can you tell me why it goes underwater in places?

So bigger ships can travel over the highway, rather than needing higher bridges or drawbridges.

The largest naval base in the world is in Norfolk Virginia. The navy recommended the bridges tunnel under water so navy ships can get to see as quickly as possible, the only other option would be build a bridge that went up super high enough for the ships to pass below which would create windy and hazardous conditions at that elevation for any vehicles that would have to travel it.

And to further elaborate, the Hampton roads bridge tunnel and the midtown tunnel also are underwater bridges. There’s only so many in the world and most of them are around Norfolk.
