    I never really understood what "Playing in 2" meant -- does it just mean playing swing on the hi-hat?

      I guess I’m confused, in this video aren’t you still hitting the hat on the 2 and 4? It looks like the same spang-a-lang pattern as on the ride.

      That is correct, you simply take the pattern you normally play on the Ride and move it to the hi-hat with an additional slight accent on the "a" of counts 2 and 4 when you open the hats.       That is correct but there's a slight modification we make when we move to the hats from the ride to keep things swinging. Please see my other comment below.
