Hi all!
So, Painkiller won last week's vote but replies to the suggestion suggested I cover the full song. Easy decision haha. One of my faves by one of my faves. I actually came across Halford's vocal track which was awesome but there was some pretty nasty reverb/delay on it so it might sound a little strange in some parts. Apologies. Let me know what next week's challenge should be and a Meets Metal will be up on Friday :)

Hands down the best cover of this song on youtube. I saw so many fail at the solo but good god yours was spot on, the pitches on the bends, the pinch harmonics in the right places and the bar dives. Seriously an amazing job. This what makes the difference between a good cover and a great one. Those little nuances.

Aside from the fact that he played awesomely, I love seeing how he smiles and shows he is clearly loving playing the guitar. So often in other cover videos, the person playing seems to have a look of almost, boredom, on their face while they're playing. I like this guy's genuine joy and enthusiasm for what he's doing... which is insane; so good...

Jake Stephen Did you know that the man who composed the solo for Cold was actually the guitarist of the metal band King of Diamonds (if my memory holds true). I thought this was really interesting, and when the At The Gates guitarist was interviewed about the collaboration, he said he still couldn't play it entirely correct. It is truly a tricky solo.
Yeah, its Andy Larocque! They said he had everyone leave the room when he was recording the solo, not because he was a "rockstar" but because he needed that much concentration to play it lol.
That would be King Diamond / Mercyful Fate. King has one of the most awesome and underrated metal voices on the planet, and some of his songs have amazing solos. Andy wrote a few that blows the socks off a few players. :)

As great as the guitar playing is, I'm captivated by the perpetual smile in these videos. Homeboy is constantly in a state of happiness with the music he can play and bring to us, and that makes me so very happy every single time. Just because metal is aggressive, powerful and full of impact doesn't mean we're not happy, fun people who enjoy listening, sharing and creating it.

Freakin OUTSTANDING, man. One of the really amazing things about Tipton is that he always crafted solos that sound impossibly complex but which really dont require major fret gymnastics. His technique really is genius. This is an absolute classic.
