I was a student of this Guru for 12 years! BABA ALI AKBAR KHAN, is the sarod player here with Ravi. Ravi learned from BABAs father, Alaudin Khan, Baba & his oldest son AASHISH passed the raga knowledge down to me. it was the most azazing experoence nm of my life to learn from the GURU OF GURUS.. he changed my life inside and out with his ancient timeless knowledge of music and life. THANK YOU BABA! WE LOVE YOU, All of yor students. I will post here amazing stories that Noone would know unless you were his student..memories that I will treasure forever and pass down to my students and children..please enjoy and be blessed..pranams

A very long time ago, I was given this album by a Fulbright Scholar from India. I was a struggling student working my way through university. I had a paper due the next day and a time crunch. I played this album, on LP, over and over all night. The next day, I turned in the paper and later learned I got an "A". While I would not recommend waiting until the last minute for anyone to do anything, I credit this music for my success.

Remember when we were all just brothers & sisters? Less wars, less conflict. So much more relaxing when people decide to handle their own lives. Who needs the 'class' of people who believe they have the right to tell us what to do? Let's just live in peace, keep on learning from good masters like these and enjoy Life. Why is such a simple program so difficult? As Jimi Hendrix once said, "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, the world will know peace." That is where I am going...

This music has nothing to do with Hinduism. Infact Ravishankar was a Hindu and Ali Akbar Khan, his ex brotther-in-law was a Muslim. Furthermore, if you trace back Ali Akbar Khan's history, his great great grandfathers were Hindu Bramhins (top of the caste system in Hindus), but, they had to convert to Islam during the Islamic rule of Bengal. I do not know if this music has anything to do with God (given I am an aethist), but, certainly, this music can transcend you to an alternate universe where you can take a deeper look into your soul and get an in-depth understanding of WHO YOU ARE!

When I was travelling around India 1972 this concert was taking place though I knew it not . Now 46 years or so after the event I'm still listening to Ravi Shankar et. al. and this is the first time I have come across this recording and, though I know Rag Bhaivari well the other two are new to me. What a delightful discovery on a quiet Sunday afternoon. Allows me to revisit my young soul some of which remained in India after my footloose travels from Dehra Dun to Cape Cormarin were over. So many cups of 25 paise tea on the way!

It is no surprise as they studied for years together under Khan's father, Allauddin Khan. Ali Akbar Khan also became Ravi Shankar's brother-in-law when Shankar married Khan's sister, Annapurna Devi in 1941. Ali Akbar Khan was also uncle to Shubhendra Shankar., Ravi and Annapurna's son.

I do not think human beings are capable of displaying greater command on stringed instruments, than what I just now heard in the last 8-10 minutes. This is simply not from this world.

The notes bring me to a defined place, but on the way there is a beautiful journey of expression…..it’s pure bliss and has been a spiritually uplifting experience for me. This is by far the most enchanting expression of art I’ve experienced in life….bless the creators
