That's what an amazing dancer Astaire was - he danced to Weapon of Choice decades before it was even written! All the same, I bet somewhere Ginger Rogers was doing the same dance backwards and in heels...
For those interested, Astaire's actual dance routine was an improvisation done to a meledy of Elmer Bernstein tunes. He was 71 years old at the time ot this performance and had been retired for slightly over a year - this was his final public dancing performance, although he did continue in serious acting jobs until 1981.
You don't realize that when you are old as Mr. Astaire was here, moving like that takes an unbelievable toll on the body. I'd say Fred here was in his early 80s that night.
"I don't know why the crowd seems to be stifling yawns" Probably because Fred Astaire wasn't actually that great a dancer. I never understood the appeal. Gene Kelley made him look like an amateur.
Before seeing it, I thought it could never be as good as Christopher Walken's version in Fat Boy Slim's music video for Weapon of Choice. After watching it, I have to say it comes pretty damn close!! Great Job on the editing & timing as well!!💗💚💙💜💛
Brilliant! I actually thought it was the real thing for a moment until I thought about the year :o) it must have had the exact same "beat" as the song they played in the original.
My! When I watch this, I understand why ballet star Mikhail Baryshnikov once said "When we watch Fred Astaire, we (ballet dancers) all think that we should have done another job". (Though I desagree because I love Baryshnikov, of course).
Two great performances, Andy, including yours. This is absolutely magical. All of the performers they cut to: "Just hurry up and get to the part that's about *meeeeee*!" THANK YOU.
Its amazing to see where current artists are inspired by previous ones. Theres a fine line between imitation & inspiration, but some find a way to walk between the two without over stepping either.
Wow I was just watching the new Daniel Craig advert where he's dancing which led me to Fatboy Slim's Weapon of Choice vid with Christopher Walken and this popped up. This is epic, brilliantly done, cheers 🙂

Waw!! All those faces, teary eyes Sammy Davis Jr. Those dimples while panting from the performence. Seeing this for the first time at 04.18 in the morning aged 54. Waww!! Those smooooth moves🙌🏾💯🪔❤️🔥🫂🌬️💋
With current video editing technology, he probably could have been made to fly. You just need to find the right part of the dance sequence that looks like flying, remove the background and replace with transparent, finally, carefully overlay Fred onto the background and have him move in a way that looks natural. His flying movements would be the most difficult part so that he doesn't have that hovering spaceship look.
I was half expecting Fred to start flying. Bravo. All of the performers they cut to: "Just hurry up and get to the part that's about *meeeeee*!" Классно. но в Волкера он получился раскрепощённей.

Just goes to show Fat Boy Slim knows a thing or two about time travel.
Weren't they awesome.? He's still amazing....Anybody know how old he is here?

He did but reality couldn't handle it and the recording ceased to exist.
Exquisite, and totally believable. Fred was a badass.

not that would've been a sight to see! 🙂
Fred was the first choice for the music video, but he was unavailable being dead and all. (Fantastic stuff, fits so perfectly!)
lol.
Fantastic and true.
Luv and Peace.
Amazing! You got it timed perfectly. You even got the DING from when Christopher Walken rang the bell.
I'm still amazed how well the ding worked out. That was probably more luck than editing talent on my part.
Still, pretty amazing! Why this has not gone viral is anyone’s guess.

What song did Fred Astaire actually dance to in this clip?

Nope, he was 70.
This is fantastic. The dancing style fits, and you've got it timed perfectly. I don't know why the crowd seems to be stifling yawns.

@Cheri Robertson I agree with you. I enjoy Kelly's more masculine style but Astaire defied gravity. Really no comparing the two.
@@brandyjan14 russian dancers: гравити? Вот из дат?
maybe he was years ahead 🤪
Even if they don't like the dancing the music is catchy, so not sure why they'd be looking like zombies the way they are.
Man this guy was amazing, even at 71 he still had the moves. Next to Michael he was truly one of the best.
That would've made him 101 when weapon of choice came out.
I mean M was good but he could never match Fred in his prime when it comes to dancing.
Sorry... Fred will always be the best! Michael could never do what Fred did!!
I read that when Astaire was 70 he fell off his grandson's skateboard and broke his wrist.
MJ idolized Fred

Bruh, we talking of Fred Astaire. The man was a Dancefloor God
@@misterwilhite9211 I love Christopher Walken's version, that is why I am here but I have to say I like this on better. Amazing performance.
This was an amazing and creative piece of editing, but Christopher Walken is the real deal on this one.
Walken clearly copied Astaire

Wow the original is sooo boring compared to this Version. Fred would be happy this Version here exists.😂
This is incredible! I love how you synchronized the video together with a completely different song so perfectly!
Fred passed away in 1987, but we’ll never forget his moves
Incredible moves, especially for someone over 70!
That was so cool. The master showed everyone he still had it.

Very good music editing! It's like he's actually dancing to Fatboy Slim's music, rather than the Academy Orchestra. I LOVE it! 😄
