In 1999 I survived a train crash in which 36 people died. No side effects (apart from a black eye), no flashbacks, no post-traumatic stress disorder. Just a feeling of indignant anger at the pointless carnage around me. In the next year I found this song inveigled itself into my consciousness. Particularly that line "I'm amazed that I survived ..." Yorke captured the weird, scratchy paranoia I felt really well.
You're right, he is. That right hand is just so loose and he can pluck single strings so accurately without supporting it. He also changes at will his strumming patterns mid-song and sometimes you can see him rest for a bar or two and then just pick up again, off the beat. I can't think of anyone who can get a better and more layered sound from a guitar, using just a pick, whilst singing. You can tell from the way the his body moves too that he just has rhythm built into him.
I think Johnny takes a lot of the credit towards his guitar playing in Radiohead but Thom is also amazing, like others said this is sooo hard to play acoustic and for him to sing that flawlessly as well as play is incredible. He's my idol.
change down the notes at the change of line in the vocals youll see what i mean....each different sus chord......starts at the begining of a new vocal phrase .....youll find it easier to play .......also in the chorus change the chords to bars chords......B .....G and then full E chord is a simpler way to play the song :) hope this helps some how .....bless
I have stated it before on other versions of this song, but it's easily my favorite Radiohead song. Thumbs up Thom! I hope you never stop playing this.
This is one of the best versions of this song I have heard :) I love the acoustic version, so seamless. I know the word 'genius' gets thrown around a lot, but Thom Yorke is a musical genius, so amazing.
I've seen this song live. But Thom solo makes you appreciate the intricacy of the song. That's just him. Plus Jonny and Ed and Colin and Phil....that's why it's so great.
Was right at the front, and I gota say, i'm really sad that camera's can't capture the actual essence of the music, it was amazing!!!!!! I'm glad that someone captured some good vids of the gig though, corn exchange! GO GREEN PARTY!!!!!
How lucky you are to be able to see him and hear him sing live! I hope they decide to go on tour now with the King of Limbs and that they come to Greece as well!
i don't get how peapole can resist to not sing this sing the lungs out of this song i just wouldn't be able it's such a dream to me just to see this god
@andrew11235 did this help? it's kinda bright, i'm searching for the bass notes on a keyboard and i'll try to figure out the "real" positions with this video too... What a pity this one (which is perfect) doesn't show them to us :D
@Desperado8600 If you know how to play thom's guitar in the original album format (google is full of tabs for this), it's actually quite easy to guess the small differences he does for this acoustic version. Mainly the intro, solo and outro. Anyhow I must agree with you: Damn music stand!

The Ladbroke Grove one?
scooter4849 yes
Thank you sharing your story, brought me to tears. I'm so glad you lived and found solace in this song. 💟
tonyssweetbabygirl how did it bring you to tears? The comment showed a lack of emotion
+Alex Pack lack of emotion can be as dramatic as sentimentality. lots of books gain great effect from this, e.g. rabbit run
One of the best rythm guitarist

that was a very accurate description of his kind of playing the guitar, boss

‘Cause he’s also a drummer.
Thom is literally glowing here like the celestial being that he is
I think Johnny takes a lot of the credit towards his guitar playing in Radiohead but Thom is also amazing, like others said this is sooo hard to play acoustic and for him to sing that flawlessly as well as play is incredible. He's my idol.

I've been trying to play this song for about a month .. It seems impossible to sing it and play it at the same time :/
change down the notes at the change of line in the vocals youll see what i mean....each different sus chord......starts at the begining of a new vocal phrase .....youll find it easier to play .......also in the chorus change the chords to bars chords......B .....G and then full E chord is a simpler way to play the song :) hope this helps some how .....bless
Watch 'Warren' 's tutorial; he's done a pretty good version where you can play it without too much difficulty.
I'm supposed to be doing homework right now but I can't stop watching these Radiohead/Thom Yorke videos. They give me goosebumps.

This is an absolutely brilliant rendition of an absolutely brilliant song. Thom Yorke... nuff said.
I have stated it before on other versions of this song, but it's easily my favorite Radiohead song. Thumbs up Thom! I hope you never stop playing this.
Thom would probably prefer that your thumbs stayed out of him.
Thank you for being born Thom and giving the gift of your music to this world.

Ive noticed his vocals are better when he plays solo acoustic. AMAZING!
This stripped-down version honestly made me appreciate this song more.
These songs are giving me strength, cheering up my December, my end of the year ... what a fucked up year!Thank you!
MaggieBear, I can't thank you enough for recording this. Best version since OKC. Cheers!

I don’t know what it is that is so great about this song, but it just is.
Was right at the front, and I gota say, i'm really sad that camera's can't capture the actual essence of the music, it was amazing!!!!!! I'm glad that someone captured some good vids of the gig though, corn exchange! GO GREEN PARTY!!!!!
This may be the most beautiful thing I’ve ever witnessed.

I couldn't imagine this song could be so intense played only with an acoustic guitar. And it is. Wonderful and I miss the words !
Thom looks amazing
In Muse he is also great!

The ending is especially beautiful. Thanks, Maggiebear!! I'm not so sad about missing the gig now :)

Pekee what are they even

Now that's a real musician.
How I wish I could see his hands so I could replicate this on my own guitar. I play it acoustically often but never as nice as this.
Fucking beautiful.
it fills me with that 'nasty teenage bit' of angst and hope with thoughts of white shiny plastic and paranoia and anxiety.
Chills.

Seriously, aside from There there live in paris, is there a better acoustic version of a radiohead tune? what do you reckon?
