This iconic series has really taken over my life and I was so excited to continue with this beautiful story. These two episodes really made me feel jealous of the characters and their mostly flourishing relationships, and I just know it is only going to get worse. i truly gained my respect for imogen after the park scene and the morning after, which a lot of people don’t really mention. the fact that there’s not even a moment of hesitation, a look, a face. she doesn’t even stutter and goes straight to covering up for nick and diverting the conversation when harry asks. i think that just proves how good of a friend she is and how much she understood
Yes and then the small knowing smile she gives them in the last episode as nick walks away with Charlie. So lovely.❤️
Imogen is simply just an awkward teenage girl with a crush on her friend, and I will defend her with all my heart, she's such a sweetheart

I keep saying that Heartstopper makes me cry with happiness and sadness at the same time, the show has such a tender moments, but they only make me feel bad because that didn't happen to me
It’s good to know I’m not the only one who aches after watching Heartstopper. It’s not just aching over a healthy loving relationship but also an ache for a queer friend group. I think the best description of the show is Queer Joy and that really hits the nail on the head. Maybe it’s cuz currently I don’t experience that Queer Joy (eventhough I’ve accepted my queerness), I still feel as if something’s missing. I do hope one you and everyone who aches while watching Heartstopper gets to experience that joy.

After they find Tara and Darcy in the locked room they all run out in the order of the LGBTQ+ letters, the same when they leave the milkshake date. I love that they did little things like this with the show.

My parents were fully accepting when I did come out, but gosh do I wish they’d said something _ahead of time._ Removing that little bit of residual doubt would have made a big difference. (Only _after_ did they tell me that some of their friends, past and present, were gay… 😖)
An adorable part of Tao's character is that he's only wacky and goofy for Elle. He always tries to make her smile, and I think that's so cute!

I'm a teacher (in France) and the attitude of students towards LGBTQ+ students are vastly different depending on the area. I taught in a school where I had an out Pansexual Genderfluid 14 year-old student (I'll use she/her pronuons because she wanted her to use she/her I'm not misgendering her). She was supported by her whole class and there was little to no backlash for that. (The school wasn't perfect there was bullying for other reasons but not homophobia / transphobia). It was in a more progressive area and then I taught in a school in a more right-wing area and homophobic slurs were a daily occurence. I had to give detention / expell students for that reason at least once a week.
Glad you supported your students like that. No one deserves to be treated like that for who their identity. :-)

I was there for her and I teach English so I made a unit on Pride (and LGBT as a whole but I had to link it to a cultural fact based in the English Speaking world) for her and her class so that they could learn more about different identities. That's the whole extent of how much help I was for her though. The school itself was accepting. In the school I taught right after no one was out as far as I knew (understandably) but I tried to make my classroom as safe a space as possible.

@@bernhard9902 I'm talking socially left and right leaning here as those two places were right leaning economically. It's not always true but I would say that in most case urban area are more progressive than rural areas (as in most countries). Also I would say that sadly poorer neighborhood tend to be more homophobic (there are exceptions of course). I have never seen "catholic neighborhood" in France but I haven't travelled much in my own country but France is a secular country so you will rarely find religious bigots (not saying every religious person is a bigot - I know they're the loud minority). I don't know where you're from but if you come to France to study you're most likely to go to a progressive city as university students tend to be more progressive. (There are exceptions of course)

I’ve come to the theory that Tao’s hair was a deliberate choice by the creators to make the actor William Gao look more “nerdy” and more like an outcast. And I think it works! If you look at William Gao, he’s literally a model. He’s extremely tall, handsome, stylish and he’s very much the current standard of beauty, so I think him having his normal adonis hair would distract the viewer. That’s what make most sense to me I think!

I've been joking that they literally ticked all the boxes for LGBT+ on this show(with isaac being AceAro). It's just a bit funny how neatly that's managed.

Oh, that's an interesting theory, I thought they were running in order of realising that they're in love with each other. Tara and Darcy first, they got together a few years ago, then Nick and Charlie, then Elle who already admitted she had a crush on Tao and Tao is the last because he's gonna confess his feeling for Elle in Season 2 only. That's my point of view.

My favorite is when Nick asks Charlie out on their first date. Charlie jumping up and down in excitement the second the door is closed. That being said, episodes 5 & 6 are rather "light", which honestly you kind of need from the waterworks in 3 & 4. Warning, things get INTENSE in 7 & 8.

Heartstopper is a bittersweet show for all of us of a certain age; we were just on the precipice of inclusion, but we missed it during our formative years.
As a gay teacher, it is absolutely wild and beautiful to see all kinds of students existing and having the kinds of relationships now that we couldn't then. Literally just existing as an openly gay teacher is often a trip, and I know my presence is felt because I hear of students saying awful things in other classes because the bullies feel safe with those teachers, and they know that nonsense won't fly with me.

I love how healing Heartstopper is. What I've been getting from older LGBTQ+ friends and just in general is that sometimes we feel like we are not deserving of pure and healthy love. We've figured out the sex part and the struggles we gotta face, but we almost never feel like we can and ARE deserving of loving relationships. After this show, I've seen so many of my friends that used to just settle for casual stuff feel like they wanted to be in relationships, or could actually find someone out there that'd be kind and sincere. It's a great show for all ages imo.

My favourite moment on this episode is one we didnt see. Nick hugs Charlie in the bowling alley and instead of flowers and butterflies, Charlie leans into the hug. Neon appears. The hugs may be the highlight of the series.
Do you think there is a reason why in other scenes there were butterflies and flowers, but in that scene, there weren't?

@@randomly_rebecca I think I've read or seen Alice (or someone else from the production team) saying that it's related to the time of year - they get leaves in winter/early spring, then flowers and birds in spring and then butterflies in summer. My assumption is just that it's neon because they're in an arcade with lots of neon in the decor, so it just matches the environment.

In the graphic novels, I guess the beautiful thing is that it encourages people of all ages to seek those experiences. It's not limited to school or teenage years only. Anyone in their life can have their Charlie or Nick and be happy.

Appearently, Alice has said on tumblr that it was because they needed him to look MORE dorky and unpopular...but idk I've not seen the post myself bc I cannot find their tumblr page. So idk if that's the actual reason for the hair style...but that's what ppl have told me is the "real reason". Could just be a rumour as I have not seen the source of this info myself. 🤷♀️

When you consider that Tao said they would start bowling at 4pm, and Nick sent Imogen that text after they bowled two games, he essentially canceled their date with around 1-2 hours notice. As much as I adore Nick, that was a pretty horrible thing to do.

Nick got into that mess precisely because he wanted to please everyone, this time he had to make a decision and he chose Charlie (obviously) at least he told her with a little time and the next day he solved everything. I don't think that's such a horrible thing, people are very demanding nowadays.

I was a Gay teen in a small conservative farming community in the US. In the 1980's. I watched this show and it gave me hope for the future. Shows like this and ''Schitt's Creek'' are just freaking awesome & rad & stuff.
I couldn’t agree more! I feel like Heartstopper explores more the “puppy love” phase of emotional/relationship development, while SC explores the adult phase. We all deserve a Nick and Patrick.

I'm just amazed that you can only watch two episodes at a time lol. Alice Oseman really got me binge watching the whole series. I have a love/hate relationship with the length of each episode. Like, I wish we got more, but it's amazing how in just a short span of time, they can make us feel so hard.

I have watched over 30 reactions to Heartstopper and so far 1 person has picked up that the party in episode 3 is at the St. George hotel and not one has noticed that Charlie's party is in the afternoon and the Imogene date is in the evening.
It helps having captions on as a default; I think that’s why I picked up on those the first time through.

Its so sad how we LGBTQIA+ keep waiting all the time for something bad to happen, for something to go wrong, cause, you know, life as it is and all its trauma, but this show is so warmful and responsible with the characters and their feelings, and our feelings. I watch one episode or two every night before I go to bed. Its been literally my religion.
