Another banger as per. The only downside to inline having all these styles is my bank account is empty and my bedroom wall looks like it belongs in JD sport 🤣🤣
As an oldie newbie it seems to me that the crossover of styles and disciplines is very healthy for the blading scene. Another great video 👏👏
Yea I think it’s excellent and very exciting for the progression of each style. It’s also very tempting to have lots of different setups to try it all out.
This is the type of skating that got me started.
Greg Mirzoyan and Danny Aldridge from Rollerblade team especially.
you are an invaluable contribution to this great new skate revival! keep spreadin the word
Great video as always!
I do think Bill Stoppard deserved a mention in the video.
The man is a devoted city skater for years - and has inspired many rec skaters to get off the trails and become freestyle/city skaters.
Agreed, and very well said! So many good quotes from Bill but I will never forget, "the city is your river"!
POWER BLADING haha i love it! I think of Nick Swan as the Trials rider of the blading world. His precision, power and creativity are unmatched.
Yea absolutely incredible and a really nice bloke as well. His skating is captivating. The way he navigates areas
Heeeeeey... Got my clips in there... Made my day, thanks so much Tom... ❤️😄🙏🏽
In before Bill Stoppard throws a fit for not mentioning "assault skating".
P.S. Thanks for not sheeting on rec skaters we need to be as inclusive as possible to grow what we love.
I was literally about to comment this, dude needs to get his head out his arse.
when MB threw out "doing a bill stoppard" as a trick i was screaming.
favorite video on your channel for a variety of reasons: your commentary, pacing, your in-depth research, and the editing was on point.
This video was really helpful. I've been skating for 30+ years but haven't bought new skates in 20 years, so I needed an overview of the new styles of skating and skates. Thanks!
Nice video, I just got into rollerblading this year so it's cool to learn some of the history behind it. I'm having a great time with it so far, and it just makes me feel so free cruising around the city.
I really really appreciate the amount of research, comedy and value you bring to our sport. THANK YOU
your way to edit these videos is so entertaining to watch :D your meme game is on point and so full of valuable information
Really cool video 👍👌super informative, you are slowly cataloguing the history, and evolution of inline skating as it continues to develop. Awesome channel.
Thank you Guillermo! That’s a very kind comment, makes me feel like I’m on the right track! 🙏🏻
aaah Powerblading.... Still remember MAthieu Ledoux video on some USD carbon with the kizer advanced and think to myself "This is peak rollerblading, i'm gonna get a pair of these"...getting a pair of Carbon 2 with Kizer Advanced and feeling how sloppy the skate was because of the low cuff and tall frame. On parks it was amazing but city skating on them was a chore, always got left behind by my friends in FRs and Twisters.
These videos are mint! Liked how you distinguished different styles/approaches👌
Thank you! Thought it was import to go over the different approaches to it and basically try to explain you can do it however you like!
Love it! I have some RB twister xt s coming in the mail Saturday. Can't wait
I fall into the “powerblading” category myself. Right now im rocking the Nils Jansons M12 Storms with Classic Oysi frames in the 72/60/60/72 setup. I absolutely love it.
I finally understand what powerblades are. Thanks! Also, best quick summary of the history of blading that I’ve seen. Good one. ;)
Great video! I know you can't include all the top city skaters but everyone should check out Bill Stoppard Skating if they haven't already. Of course, you can't go wrong with your fellow countrymen Si Coburn and Danny Aldridge!
Super banger history recap Tom! Thank you for clearing things up a bit. The water is muddy these days lol
I Love seeing Nick Swan coverage, he's got a super unique brain in his head and a big heart in his chest. Absolutely killing it for my local blade scene with Beehive Skate Shop! (UT represent!)
Wheels are wheels, love to all! ❤️
Thanks dude - appreciate that. Yea Nick sent over some exclusive clips, he a great dude.
Much appreciation for all that you do homie, future Patreon supporter as soon as more money comes in 🤞
@@shredmajor700 Cheers man! Very kind! Glad the community like the videos. Hopefully it brings a few new people in as well
I've modeled my skating style after Nick Swann. Love that flowy long line style 👌
As always, an incredibly well informed and well researched piece. Casting a wide a net as possible is the key to skating's future.
Pegging it about… not heard that for ages 🙂😁
Loving these videos I want blades again.
Great video. I loved the premise. You should do the same thing for Wizard skating.
I had to come back to that absolutely savage narcissism quip, very well earned. You nail that timing.
Thanks for this video! Really covers a lot of ground. Shout out to Flow Skate!
I’m a Skiier also and one of the big draws for me about urban skating is that is similar to skiing without the snow so you can do it all year long also being in better shape from skating urban is only gonna make your aggressive skating sessions more enjoyable
Great overview - learnt some new things. Can’t talk about urban without mentioning Bill Stoppard tho, and before him Greg Mirzoyan and now Danny Aldridge etc. The rise in popularity was coincident with the first 1080 GoPro and the “narcissistic selfie stick”, which opened the scene to people who might not have ever considered it before, especially fitness skaters who wanted to explore their city and needed this nudge. Sunday mornings in the CBD are the best! I like the distinction you made between those who recklessly slalom pedestrians and cars vs. the more thoughtful flow skaters who make use of all the street has to offer. The lack of grinding and hanging around at one spot also define urban - it’s significantly less anti-social.
My absolute favorite thing to do is to utilize the architecture. It makes everything so unique and satisfying to me. Urban Skating is in my blood.
It’s a shame Si Coburn wasn’t mentioned he really is carrying the British torch for urban skating at the moment (although I noticed you did use some of his clips)
Nothing like a bit of Saturday Morning Moyse 😂 😂 😂 that laptop on a stick isn't a bad idea 😂 😂 😂 😂 Turning up to the Skatepark in your Sunday best 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂
About 2 months ago I started learning how to rollerblade. I’m 40 and although I’ve had a soft spot for aggressive online my whole life what peaks my curiosity right now is urban skating. Definitely want to do it but I need to get better at skating first
@@TomMoyse definitely! I’ve had some health issues in the past year and one of the things I was advised on was losing weight and being active. I hate the gym but my girlfriend suggested rollerblading and I loved the idea even though it felt out of reach. When I was little I always wanted to rollerblade, specially aggressive but where I’m from buying skates was incredibly expensive so that thought stuck with me, not knowing that for $200 I could get a decent pair of skates.
Brilliant channel Tom - could you do a piece on unity mag and DNA? Or the DNA video? I think it was called British Intelligence- I used to chat with James Aldred occasionally back in the day and still think about this vid!
Yea was thinking about doing some stuff on Unity mag but it will probably be for Patreon
Awesome content.
I feel like Nico Torelli needs a spot light here, as he has really upped the steez level on urban flow imo
And here I thought Tom threw shade at him with the irritating narcissistic style of people and traffic dodging
Great video as always. I am a little disappointed that Bill Stoppard and his Assault Skating approach isn't given a mention though.
It fits into the urban skating I mentioned. City skating really fast occasionally incorporating jumps etc. Bill has just tried to put a name to his skating - I think the vast majority of Urban Skaters have different styles/approaches but they don’t all try to name them.
Where do you get the skates at the end that nick Lomax was wearing?
I think skate competition judges should ABSOLUTELY have to dress like that.
In the 1970s, Scott Olson worked for former NHLer Ralph Backstrom selling the “Super Street Skate”, predecessor of the modern Rollerblade.
“Anyone who meets Backstrom, though, would never know the little things, such as the fact that U.S. Patent No. 3,880,441 belongs to a company that the 67-year-old Backstrom once co-owned.
It’s a fairly important patent in the history of skating.
Backstrom’s Super Street Skate partner, Morris L. Silver, received the patent in the mid-1970s. It was for the original design of the in-line roller skate, he said. Backstrom never received the royalties it eventually generated because he said it wasn’t worth the battle.
“I think we were just 10 years ahead of our time,” Backstrom said while pondering what could have been.
“When Scott Olsen, who worked for me selling our original skate, created the Rollerblade, we couldn’t find an attorney who was willing to sue for us on contingency, so we never did anything about it. Looking back, now I wish I would have pushed harder.”
Looking for a size 4-6. Maybe adjustable. UFs. I like SEBA and FR skates. Full plastic. Though I want something for less than 100 please?? Any help? Happy buying used ones. Want the to be full plastic bodies. What do you think to Roces 1992? Are they much heavier than SEBA
@@philosophy4242 I’d reach out to Loco skates to see if they can help you. That would be your best bet
I actually wanted to become an aggresive skater, but omg here in my country they are not cheap/afforadable. Soo i decided to pick up urban skating and my god it is wayy more fun and less dangerous imo 😂😂
I'm surprised you didn't mention Wizard skating
I’ve done a whole separate video on that. That’s it’s own thing outside of urban skating.
I’d love a pair of aeon 80’s. I’m a size uk12 though & they only go up to uk11 & apparently they fit a full size small 😢 so uk10! Why do skate companies do this? Just make the skates in the size they’re advertised as!
Yea it’s odd with the shell sizing. In the majority of cases designs start with the shell rather than the liner which then make it’s complicated getting the correct fit. It should be the other way round
just get yourself like... 2 or 3 setups :D
Yea feels like the thing to do - so much fun to be had with various set ups and I’m sure they all help the other out
@@TomMoyse you can just improve so much as a skater if you follow more styles, and this is the right time to do so!
@@dos7956 Absolutely man - it’s feel likes a lot of aggressive skaters (well the people I look to) are open to different styles as well.
What about Assault Skating?
It fits into the urban skating I mentioned. City
skating really fast, occasionally incorporating
jumps etc. Bill has just tried to put a name to - and brand his skating - I think the vast majority of Urban Skaters have slightly different styles/approaches but they don't all try to name them. It would become too diluted.
If you don't have a skate park near you like me Urban or City rollerblading is for you.
A hard 👢 is recommended.
Take your Like a a new subscription from me.
What’s with the dis to Nicola Torelli, he currently my favourite skater, after JK that is 🧐
*Freeskating
Yes - my take is that urban skating covers it all, so roped that in under it.
Urban skating = Robbie Pitts
Robbie is more traditionally aggressive skating. Very rollerblading centric tricks.
@@TomMoyse Robbie really dose use the elements/environment to add to his skating
I could even see Robbie doing a skate video in the woods or at a non skatepark and just using the trees, parking spots, grinding the tree branches in his skating
There are videos of him just cruising around and doing one footed tricks and adding it to the local street environment- that urban
@@Mr.paint123 I think he’s good at utilising whatever is available to him but his strength comes from using himself in partnership with rollerblades to their full potential, even if there is not a obstacle there - so the environment is not the important detail, it’s Robbie. That it not urban skating. You kind of touch on it yourself when you say the woods - that’s not an urban environment.
Soooo...essentially this is just fucking street skating..like in skateboarding..
Is longboard skateboarding the same as traditional skateboarding? It’s nuanced. Think you accidentally set your hyper systems off there pal
You just invented a load of fake differences in your head and spewed them into a video.
I just got some skates. Where can I find a brake that will fit these skates I bought which are Powerslide Next Core Black 80? Also can I skate indoor with outdoor wheels?
Indoor/outdoor wheels should be the same. Send Powerslide a message they will give the best answer on the stopped etc.
@@TomMoyse I did some research and found the one that im suppose to get and I bought it from a authorized dealer. I went skating for the first time yesterday. I didn't fall but I ALMOST fell about 100 times lol. First time skating in inline skates since I was 12 years old. I'm 36 now and way over weight. I'm doing this for fitness.
These videos designed for the wider audience are 👌
Thanks - hopefully bring a few more eyes to it
