Are you interested in pancake lens like this 7Artisans 35mm f/5.6? What is your ideal pancake lens?
So far, I liked the Samyang 35mm F2.8, which is cheap and good, but probably not as flat as this 5.6?
I think I'd rather keep the F2.8 aperture, since that lens is already shallow enough for me to carry comfortably
I am interested in such a lens. Think I would prefer a 28mm though
Fantastic photos and review!
Thank you Tony!
Thanks Richard, well explained, great video ☺️
Thanks for watching rich! I recently published another 35mm pancake lens review as well if you are interested in pancakes :)
I bought one for my Ricoh GXR Leica M module.
Haven’t had a chance to use it…
Thanks for this. I love pancake lenses (like the 24 and 40mm Canon pancakes). However, since I've moved to a Lumix S5 recently, I came across this one. Your review saves me some money for now. Not sure. Perhaps. Maybe.
I shoot it on a Leica M. My infinity focus is correct but my edges aren't as good as yours. They are soft and I get a magenta color cast. Works fine for B&W and is pretty sharp considering it's built as a cheap and fun lens.
Interesting! Thanks for sharing your experience Kevin!
As always Richard, you know, a great video / Ulf
Thank you very much ulf!
Tempted to consider this for a hybrid camera cover / ready street cam lens for the zf
Thanks for reviewing this peculiar lens
I like unusual lenses :)
good review, thank you
Thank you for watching :)
Are lenses like this at all good for filming with? Trying to look for a lens with a good dense depth of field.
Do you mean you want more depth of field? This lens is more designed for photos in my opinion, but of course you can shoot video with it
Great review Richard. Can you upload the raw files for download, as this version looks better than sample lenses which have been review.
Let me see how to do it.. !

Hi Cristo, i've uploaded a few RAW files. Added the link in video description above.
Why is this lens expensive compared to other 35mm chinese lens?
thanks for another great video... any chance of a review on the new Sigma FP L ??
Hi Jack, thank you! I have made a request to my local Sigma team the day the camera was announced. But I still haven't heard anything about it yet. So let's see :)
@@TheRealRichardWong thanks Richard I believe you are one on the Top reviewers on CZcams today. I am interested in this system for landscape photos / hiking photos only not for video.I currently use the Fuji GFX 50r and with 2 lens in my pack I find myself getting tired after a few miles....(getting older now 73)
Oh Jack thank you so much! I do love to be a top reviewer on CZcams ONE DAY! I will check with the local Sigma team again soon and see if they got any updates.
Hi, late here,,this ones are cine lens? the same that T1.04 or T 1.05? thanks
This is not a cine lens
Great review! I'm looking for a budget pancake lens for night sky photography; have you tried this lens for nighttime photos yet? Would you recommend it?
Hi Victoria, i would say because of the small aperture f/5.6 this is not the best lens for night photography. Ideally you want a fast lens for astro photography, which unfortunately means it's usually not cheap/pancake. What camera system do you use?
@@TheRealRichardWong Sony a6000
Sigma 16mm f1.4, or Samyang/Rokinon 12mm f2 might be good for astro and still small.
Dear Mr Wong, meanwhile a tiny part of your video (~ 8:57) has been referenced to in my German spoken review of 7artisans 35 millimeter pancake for Sony E (Leica M adapter) which you can find when searching for "Traum-Kuchen-Linse: Was Euch niemand". I hope you don't mind being mentioned, looking forward to future communications, best wishes @S-LAB
Hi @S-LAB, thanks for letting me know! :)
❤️🔥
This video did not mention the biggest disadvantage of this lens - the focus ring moves BACKWARDS to all the Nikon (and Tamron) lenses, so you'll have a mindfu*k to what your brain is used to. A no-go for me. Have to wait patiently for the nikkor 40 f2 till 2022.
Limiting your options with aperture and focal length will definitely get your creative juices flowing. But won’t a good mobile phone camera do the same!
You are right, a good phone camera can be similar, but a proper camera's physical control is much better than any smartphone in my opinion :)
This looks like it’s a different lens the M Mount.
Antnie reviewed the M Mount and the results are terrible compared toon your photos.
Great review from you though.
hmm i have not watch the M mount version reviews (trying to not make it affect my review) but now my review is done, maybe i will check it out and see what's the difference.
What is absolutely dumb that it has that distance label on the front and not at the side surface. Where you actually can see it....
If someone have a new product and want to QA it on dumbness just let me know.... )))
I'm shocked from people who make those designs and not able to see what's totally wrong... and most ironic part, that it so easy to fix to make it right.
