It's not just that Tim can sing those low notes - it's that he can stay on pitch with those growls and hold them forever. Damn. These men can sing. No shade on Dire Straits, but Home Free doesn't cover songs, they launch them into the heavens.

    • @markhilliard4037

GaiaOne that is so true...I think their artistry is part of it, but I think deep down they must love and respect the genius of the original and that respect just lets them transform and refresh all the music they do...indeed launch them to the heavens GaiaONe, so true

Pentatonix realeased a version of "The Prayer" today (30/10) for their Holiday album. It was beautiful and with flawless singing. But there is a reason I more seldom listen to them and listen almost every day to Home Free. Home Free's arangements and harmonies outshines Pentatonix by far and has done so for quite a while. Home Free is on another level. They are the gold standard of a cappella singing and in my opinion the best music group in the world.

Absolutely agree - PTX are great but... There is a huge difference between acknowledging quality and really be touched and love something. For me personally the second is Home Free. It's like you can't help to like these guys, it's seems so effortless and straight forward no matter if they make you cry of laugh the emotions come right through and you always have the feeling they chose a song because it means something to them.

This might very well be the finest example of perfect 5-part harmony that Home Free (or, for me, any of the modern acapella groups) have ever done, and the fact that they did it with such an iconic and meaningful song just makes it all the more special. Chance has said that it is his favorite song of all time and I'm glad Tim and Chance shared the lead, and the other guys backed them so well! And the video is so beautiful and perfect. Home Free nailed everything with this one. Loved your reaction PG, have a good weekend!

To many a vet although tears may not of fell, inside the mind body and heart paused for one long sigh.
Words some of us felt but lacked ability to express to another let alone to the millions who heard HomenFree.
My Irish Gramps once told me after he hD asked what I wanted to be when I grew up and I answere, "A writer".
He said "Son for every story told there are millions more untold, write what other people cannot be heard.
All my life of many years I have heard those untold stories through music.
Stories untold from the souls , these boys just told part of millions of mens stories.
      Thank You, Home Free.

I also listen to HOMEFREE everyday. In my opinion they are beyond compare. They definitely are in a catagory all alone. As someone said earlier, they are the GOLD STANDARD that every other group should aspire to reach! Each one of the five are the very best and cannot be replaced at this moment in time! Oh my goodness TIM, you are absolutely phenomenal... those deep low notes, the growls, and those high notes are perfection. This song was perfect for you. AMAZED, I AM AMAZED AT YOUR TALENT! CHANCE, you also were wonderful. You have a beautiful voice! Everyone in this group is so talented. THE HARMONIES , OH MY, THOSE HARMONIES...OUT OF THIS WORLD! I have been a huge fan for many years. I think that I have heard almost all of your songs, and this one is my favorite. It is so hauntingly beautiful and showcases each members talent and the talent of the group as a whole! WOW! When Tim hits those deep, solid notes it genuinely makes me think of a church organ. Amazing. Superb song, fully honouring Dire Straits. They just keep raising the bar. I think Tim's range has been getting better and smoother since Chance joined because he hasn't got to do all the bass work now.

That you listened to it twice speaks volumes to me, but a third time left me speechless. I know that you understand Home Free's capabilities all too well. This one took it to a new level for you and left you quite speechless I believe. Rightly so. Like Helplessly Hoping, Adam (percussionist/beat boxer) sang in this song along with the other guys. He has an absolutely amazing voice besides the ability to make noises that make us want to dance. Their emotions often put me in tears, so genuine and so very real. Voices from another world and I feel so privileged just to be able to listen to them. World Class and so happy the world has finally discovered them. Thank you for your reaction.

I absolutely love this cover! I agree with you! I don’t know how they’ll top this one, but I know they will! They’re extremely talented and this just proves how much! I always love hearing the 5-part harmonies, and this was pristine! Tim’s low notes were perfectly placed and he sings them so smoothly! Chance’s voice is also perfect for this song in his baritone, rich and airy tone! It’s such a powerful song! I never heard the Dire Straits’ version before I heard Home Free’s cover, but I did give it a partial listen. I love Dire Straits and this is way far off from what they normally sing, but Mark wrote a beautiful and poignant song! I wonder what he would think if he heard this cover! I think they are ghosts of soldiers. The windows go through all of them and tgen when Chance sings that he wasn't left behind, his silhouette makes the POW/MIA flag

At the end, if you had your eyes closed, they sound like an organ. For Christmas, I would recommend Home Free's Warmest Winter and Winter Song and their collaboration with Chris Rupp on What Child Is This.

I had never heard Dire Straight’s version of this so after you played it by HF the first time I broke away to listen to it. Wow … both versions … I cannot choose one over another.
I am older and from the Vietnam era where our young men were drafted and then were spit upon and called vulgar names when they returned home. Most young men who returned were never the same. This song has brought forth a flood of memories and of flood of faces of young men who never came back. I thought my grief had healed … it has not.

Seen the guy's again last night here in Wisconsin. Great concert as always but last night they seemed to have an extra " spring in their step" and we could feel how much they love being back on the road again. The way they sing this is hauntingly beautiful but with the video, it really does make you stop to think... Agree with you all the way Lyle...

@@petuniasevan I was the one who got to give them their gifts and then drinks.. Austin was rather quiet because of his cold, but you couldn't tell he had one when he sang.. Got to be rough having to get out there when you're sick... Their light show was awesome, specially when Adam put on his jacket with the shoulder mirrors on it. It reflected up to the ceiling.. Pretty kool... Can't wait for the next one. These guy's are just real people. Not getting on stage for money, but because they love what they do.. So do we... lol Wish we could have met.. I did get to meet Marlene Kloth ( Home Fry) That was nice too...

@@2wheels298 I didn't realize that Austin was sick. He did seem a bit off at the meet-and-greet, but as I can have issues reading people, I thought it was just me. Thanks for the info, and I hope Austin feels better very soon. I was in seat 7 front row and I saw you giving the guys their gifts. Thanks also to you for doing that.

This song has been one of my favorites for years. I was in high school when the Brothers In Arms album came out in 1985 and loved just about every song on that one. I saw this title come down on the new Home Free album releases and immediately thought, “No way! How are they going to pull off all that luscious guitar by Mark Knopfler?” But, alas! Along comes my favorite group of today, that I listen to every day, and they just send this song to the moon! My God, was that great! So we’ll arranged, and so we’ll performed! This is my new standard! It amazing that more artist with signature songs don’t have restraining orders against Home Free covering their recordings! Haha! Now, being a veteran, this song is even more special to me. Just in time for Veteran’s Day, great job, fellas! Love you guys!

This is an outstanding rendition of the song, that is true. However, Home Free acknowledges on their own page that the arrangement is not their own:
"Arrangement by Susanna Hietala & Jouni Kannisto of Club for Five". Club for Five has an amazing bass singer as well who shines in their performance as Tim does here.
