    I heard about the safflower trip to keep blackbirds away. Just bought some and put it out. True, blackbirds don't like it... neither do any of the other birds (chickadees, nuthatches, etc just spit it out). Only birds that seem to tolerate them are house finches. I'm going to try the cage thing next. Thank you

      Same here none of my other birds like the safflower either.

    I'm here to tell you cowbirds learn very quickly how to get in those cage feeders! Redwing blackbirds swing it to knock the seeds out. Grosbeaks will not go in cage feeders I have

    TFS. My local WBU is very helpful in giving information about how to maintain feeders to attract birds you want and or eliminate birds you don’t want by food management.

    I found the house suet feeders (upside down feeders) work to prevent starlings and grackles from eating it. Now i can out the super blend suet in them. For all of my others feeders I use safflower seed. I buy peanuts in the shell for my flat feeders for the Bluejays and squirrels. If the peanuts are in the shell the starlings won't want to take time to crack them open.

      Hello Bev. Do you know if Starlings will eat up black oil sunflower seeds? I am curios if they will be as eager to crack those open. Thank you, Tamara.

    Where to buy the cages that will fit over tube feeders? Can Cardinals still get through?

  • @peterfarrell9187

    I buy suet cakes but cannot use those baskets as the grey's eat it all. I use a block of wood with holes drilled and filled and I use wire mesh to keep squirrels out. The best is butcher suet that is the favorite among woodpeckers.

    What! No comments in over a year? Can I start? OK, I'm new to bird feeding, and this problem cropped up this year. I just bought the upside down suet feeder, and the safflower seeds. Hoping for success. Looks like you have quite the selection there. I'm from Brockton, (originally) and may stop by some day. Thanks for the video. :)

      @joequillun7790 Před rokem +1

      @@dollywhitlock7990 I would think yes, looking at the one in the video. And if a cardinal will fit, so will blackbirds. (If you use the cheap wild bird food, or black oil sunflower). What he said about the safflower, is the best way to keep most nuisance birds away. I have one up-side down suet feeder, and the black birds if tempted by other food/feeders, will chow on it. But they don't come now that most my food is safflower, and woodpecker mix. Once in a blue moon I'll have-ta shoe them away.

      Cardboard box with door cut out and a peanut butter treat rat trap. Of course you have to deal with the whole dead rat thing, but my neighbor has been doing this for years and rats don’t last long around here. Live traps for red squirrels with a relocation program.

      Do like we do in the deaf community and use CC. It’s usually available on every channel. If it’s not and I think I may enjoy watching their content I ask if they would consider setting their options available for the hearing impaired. I’m surprised at the amount of people who “just never thought about that” 😞 and thanked me for reaching out.
