@13:00 could you have just enabled WinRM and then add the nano VM to server manager, then configure it from there?

When I try to join the domain I get the following error. I've even tried to add the /REUSE switch as it suggests.
Provisioning the computer...
Failed to provision [starbase4] in the domain [mydomain.net]: 0x5.
It may be necessary to specify /REUSE when running

Matt Audette , At this time I dont believe MS server supports nested virtual machines I might be wrong but this is just from experience I would boot the nano server up from the vm box your using

Thanks for another video, I have followed your 2 previous videos and I am 7 minutes into this video, however I cant find hyper v manager in my system.
@nlb solutions ive follow all ure steps and evertying went good until the part where u put a command in the powershell after u set the "set-item.." command. what is the exact command u use for "$ip?? cause i cant get to remote powershell my nano server. thanx in advancce
How do you create client virtual machine ? is this same way as domain controller ? I think you may be omit some steps before going for nano server. a diagram would be helpful to understand the screnario

Hi Christian, yes you can convert the VHDX to VMDK and power it on on VMware.
I finally got it thanks to this video!!! I’ve been at it for days thank you so much
But when I returned to my virtual environment a notification popped up about the state of the VMs and without thinking I hit “revert”... Now my nano server is still joined to my domain, but the server is listed as “Online - Access Denied” in server manager. Furthermore, when I try to remote the nano server using enter-pssession I’m getting a straight up “access is denied” error ): I don’t understand why since I’m using the same credentials as before...
Hi Martin, sorry for the late reply. I would assume you made a snapshot of the initial state of the VM, so check with the initial credentials. Or just deploy a new nano, should be fine.

by the way, nick, using hyper-v and ad ds on the same machine isn't recommended, according to MS and you mention it too a couple of times. is it ok to install a virtual machine with the hyper-v, then create a guest with the WS2016, and use it as a domain controller + ad ds? is it a good practice?

Hi Dan, depending on the .ISO image that you've downloaded. If it is Windows Server 2016 Standard/Datacenter it should be there.
In school and Lab environment we used Hyper-V but wasn't the one who configured them originally. I was pretty much using Hyper-V for everything, Domain controller and clients and even separate servers to run DHCP alone. Here is where I'm confused, after installing Windows Server in the videos you created a Domain and forest.... then we see you using hyper-V to create other servers (I pretty much thought Hyper-v was Windows server), my question is why wasn't the Domain Controller you created in the previous videos showing up in Hyper-V? Did you install the windows server application (which affect your PC and Kernel) and just using Hyper-V for virtualization and test? I'm seriously confused.

at 10:25, on my side, I am not able to enter the numbers for IP Address, Subnet Mask, or Default Gateway. It's not because of the Num Lock. Do you have any idea?

Hi Robin, this is a thing I haven't encountered. You can try with numbers above the letters.
How about if I dont have new volume E? Cause I didnt clarify a partition when I install server 2016
Hi Garson, there are few ways to resize a partition. Also if you are using a Virtual Machine you can add a virtual disk and create new partition after you install the Windows.
Hi Nick, all good with your videos up until now, 1st error I have encountered is when trying to djoin, i get in powershell;
Loading provisioning data from the following file: [C:\odjblob].
The offline domain join request failed: 0x32.
The request is not supported.
Any ideas buddy?
Forget that, I had the Static Ip set as the same as the Host, I popped it on a random static ip address and it worked just fine. One thing that has confused me, which I have noticed, with Hyper V, I can not see the enhanced features, I have checked "Allow enhanced session mode", "Use enhanced session mode", and in Integration options ticked "Guest Services", however Enhanced Features is still greyed out in the Datacenter version of 2016, could you advise please Nick?

Hello Knaughty F, there is no option for WSUS Nano Server, for now. According to Microsoft the Nano Server is suitable for:
A host for Hyper-V virtual machines, either in clusters or not
As a storage host for Scale-Out File Server.
As a DNS server
As a web server running Internet Information Services (IIS)
As a host for applications that are developed using cloud application patterns and run in a container or virtual machine guest operating system
How can I enable FTP and create multiple sites, can I use some specific tool to manage the sites without being by the server manager like Visual Studio?
Podes usar Internet Information Server (IIS) en windows 2016 esta en la version 10. Con nano server se puede hacer dado que existen modulos de Powershell que permiten administrarlos, como es el modulo 'Import-Module WebAdministration' Con IIS se pueden crear sitios con distintos bindings (como seria virtualhosts en apache), FTP y SFTP

Where did you pull the static IP address from for the Nano server?
Hi Joe, if I understand you correctly, the static IP address is a random free address from my internal network I've created for the demo.

What am I doing wrong?
I would advise you to check the log in here - C:\Nano\Logs\2017-03-05_03-02-31-84. There will be more details there. From the command I cannot clearly see any issues.
I downloaded vhd from the front and I do not know what is user name and password and I already implement it in hyper -v but will not let me enter
Hi Ventana, this is a tricky one, I also remember downloading the VHD directly and not able to login to it. You can try without any password, if this is still not working you can create a new nano server VHD using the .wim image and provide a password in there.

depends on windows version, home does not have or allow hyper v manager to be used or installed, only pro, enterprise and educational do, or if you mean server side? then u have to add it as a role, but the installation routine is missing from the video :( but easily installed and configured
