4K STORM CORRIE Pilots Fighting To Land At Amsterdam Schiphol, Go-Arounds & Winds up to 100km/h!💨

- Yesterday storm “Corrie” hit The Netherlands and Amsterdam Schiphol airport. With wind gusts up to 100km/h and bft 8/9 pilots were fighting to keep their planes straight and land their planes. Some pilots had to make up to three “Go-Around’s” until they were able to land their plane safely. Other pilots made go-around and diverted to other airports.
The storm was so intense at one point no aircraft was allowed to pushback from their gates, resulting in planes landing being stuck at the taxiways for +30 minutes after a scary landing.
At the beginning of the video you can see the Air Canada pilots struggling to keep their Airbus A330-300 straight, but they pulled it off and put their thrust reversers to full! The Etihad Airways pilots on the other hand made a go-around an circled near the airport for about 1 hour and 15 minutes without trying a second time to land, after circling for almost 1,5 hours they diverted towards Brussels airport, later in the day they landed from Brussels.
Notice how some pilots are really struggling to keep their planes level and other manage to do so. The Singapore Airlines Boeing 747-400F pilots made a second go-around just out of sight from the camera and diverted to Brussels. Luckily no accidents occurred, unfortunately for me the Air Traffic Control of the airport decided at around 1 pm that runway 27 should be closed for use and other runways could be opened to land. But nevertheless I got some great shots! ENJOY!
(They hauling sound you hear is the wind slamming against the parking garage where I was standing at the top level (level 5).

That is my Dad landing the first flight! He sent this link to me and was so excited to have it captured. Thank you so much for putting this together!!
Congratulations to your Dad! FANTASTIC SKILLS.
Which one was his airplane?
@@ministerievanstudiecollege5788 first flight Was the AC A330
Air Canada pilots are the best

Delta A350 landing was a masterpiece
Thanx mate, that was the toughest landing of my civilian career. I’m glad it was captured on video.
Very well done! This is where a skilled pilot is priceless. Go arounds also count for good judgement. A "forced" landing can lead to problems.
Sometimes instinct can be an invaluable instrument, even for these technically highly skilled pilots.
Indeed! My wife was a flight attendant on one of the flights which made a go around in this video and returned for a successful second attempt. Thus, she came home safely to the children and me. Having said that; I am an Airbus pilot myself and would have loved to fly that day 😊.
@@TribusMontibus Haha I'm sure you would. I'm new to sim aviation myself and once you master the mundane the inevitable need for more creeps in. I have 2 questions if you don't mind, when landing with ILS, how high do you disengage autopilot and A/T and lastly, do you trust it with such high crosswinds forcing crabbing maneouvers?
@@DerickMasai Hello Derick,
I’m on the A330 these days. It simply isn’t certified for autoland with a crosswind of more than 20 knots. That’s not really strange as it is meant to perform autolands in low-visibility situations with cloud ceilings down to the runway. Such conditions hardly ever coincide with high winds.
If we are going to perform a manual landing (which I do in at least 95% of all cases) we are supposed to disconnect the autopilot above 160’ AGL. But I do not know a single pilot who would wait that long before disconnecting, because it would mean that you don’t get ‘the feel’ of the airplane and the weather until mere seconds before touchdown. My personal preference is to ‘hand fly’ the airplane down from 10,000’, but many colleagues disconnect either just before ‘glide slope intercept’ or right after ‘established in stable descent, in landing configuration’.
I prefer to land ‘one wing low’ in crosswind situations. But there is a limit to the safety of that technique. With a 40 knot crosswind, this would mean that the upwind wing would be so low that you risk an engine-pod-ground-strike. So, with anything exceeding a 25 knot crosswind, I accept a degree of crab angle upon touchdown. The airplane is certified to land like that and I have many colleagues who will always land more or less crabbed.
It’s a matter of personal preference. During my career I have flown more than 50 different aircraft types, varying from fabric covered bi-planes, to sea planes, tail-draggers, turbo-props to Boeing 747’s. I prefer to fly by hand as much as I can during the first and last minutes of the flight.
Kind regards and happy flying,
Garret
@@TribusMontibus Thank you so much for taking the time to share this Garret. I've been trying to add a bit more "realism" to my virtual flights and this will be a massive help. Have a great day and blue skies.
That Delta A350 was one of the most incredible landings I’ve ever seen. Masterful rudder control @ 6:20
Thanks mate. that was the most challenging landing of my airline career. glad it was caught on film.
He was literally floating like a bird. Incredible.
@@dwzaphod if that is your most challanging landing ever, then you hav not been flying for long huh
@@blatter762 i didn’t say it was my most challenging landing ever, nitwit, I said it was the most challenging landing of my airline career. i was a career military pilot
@@dwzaphod What branch did you serve?
As a retired pilot that flew A330 and B 737, I am so so hungry to get back in the cockpit ( not going to happen ) after watching these great approach and landings. I miss those crummy weather days with gusting cross winds...remember these guys are shooting approaches after many hours sitting at cruise...the transition was always a challenge. Great stuff. Keep it coming !!
The Delta A350 wins the prize. Perfect.
Thanks Dude! I was actually the flying pilot on that 350. That was the most challenging landing of my airline career, although not as challenging as some in my military career.
@@dwzaphod Well done! A lot of rudder deflection on those landings. Nothing to be ashamed of for the one's that did a go-around. ALWAYS keep good judgment. What did you fly in the military if I may ask?
@@wincav c130s. you don’t touch anything on that plane without adding a rudder correction
🏆
You nailed it Bro!
Great flying!
Made the intire video, as I always look for who did it best. Always work rudder, aeliron, and trust in heavy crosswind!
By the way what was crosswind component on that landing?
Just wondering.
Congrats, I hope your pax gave applause!👍🏿
Fascinating video! Pilots at their best. Those tail rudders were working overtime! 🛬
I've only seen the first few minutes...but you know it's real when you can see the ailerons making big deflections from that far out. That Delta 330 was NOT going to take "no" for an answer!
Great video! And you did well not to get blown away yourself! Subbed.
First of all, thank you for braving the elements to get this spectacular footage!! Some really skilled pilots getting the planes on the ground!! I noticed a lot of 'crabbing' to get them on the ground --excellent!! Scary as that is, the safety features and skill of our pilots today is awesome!! Thanks you for this!! 💕✈✈💕
I was in the Etihad 787-10. What a fun experience I must say. We were in a holding pattern for over an hour diverted to brussels and then back to Schiphol after one more hour. A fun but tiring day.
Gotta love that epic wing flex on those Dreamliners.
I was on a klm flight from Toronto to Amsterdam. We landed but it was rly windy and I thought we were gonna not make it on the ground but thanks to the pilots that made a safe landing
no matter what happens, a plane will always end on the ground

I love these quiet videos! Perfectly filmed and documented, no commentary, no music, and still very impressive. But being there these high-pitched noises probably from some cables or posts would drive me crazy 😱😳😅! Thank you for sharing!
Reminds me of when I was watching the planes at Stuttgart in 89' when the Ilyushin-76 went off the runway in heavy rain, caught on VHS but very scary.
Huge respect to the pilotsfor taking the sage before the unsafe👌. These are pilots who landed.
great to see your spotting though, cool with the wet track. good picture and engines sound👍
Thumbs up for the

Good content👍
Incredible Footage man! Those pilots were really fighting against those conditions!
Excellent footage. Thank you for this. It shows your dedication to aviation!
Awesome video!
Respect for being outside in that weather !
The howling and whistling in the background is kinda eerie
Wow, fantastic video! Thank you for sharing! Fantastic airplanes and very skilled pilots - all of them! Delta A350 makes a very cool landing. All of them are superbe!
Very nice video Sander thanks!
That KLM 77W at 10:22 just acing it! See that left wing oscillating...fantastic!
Wow just respect to the pilots.
It’s been very stormy here in the Scottish highlands too. Thank you for uploading this, I really enjoyed it 👍🏻❤️
And why pilots will always be needed. Computers cannot tackle that type of approach and landing. Great job by these pilots, both the ones that landed but also the go-arounds. Judgement is key.
Fantastic video my friend!
Fantastic video mate! Awesome shots :)
Absolutely fantaztic video!
Props to you for weathering the elements to video!🏆
Amazing catches. Great video
Обалдеть, как пилоты Дельты садят 350-е... Супер! Прям как вертолеты, вот профессионалы!!! И сама фирма супер и пилоты !p.s да и КЛМ тоже красавцы!
Thanx AB, that was the most challenging landing of my airline career. So glad it was caught on video.
Nice video my friend!👍🏼
Thnx for the upload Sander! Perfect as always, I was following the live stream from NH nieuws that morning on youtube as well as flightradar24, indeed the etihad 789 got over 5500 followers on flightradar, must have had plenty fuel on board before they eventually diverted to Brussels, keep up the good work! Cheers Marty
Qatar Airways excellent landing in very trying conditions 👍👏🏻
Delta pilots always seem incredibly skilled.
Thanks mate! I was the Delta A350 pilot. That was the most challenging landing of my civilian airline career. Glad it was caught on video.
Gave video!! Wat een herrie daar man op P3! :P
Thank you for sharing.
Great video watching from Toronto Canada 🇨🇦
Great video the Delta pilot nailed it among others 👍😊
Thanks Shawn, I was the Delta 350 pilot. That was my toughest civilian landing. Glad CZcams caught it.
Thanks for amazing video.
In my opinion 12:31 the KLM pilot has won the price for best landing. Looks like there was almost no wind haha!
Best landing Goes to Delta Airlines A350-941 @ 5:40. The slickest landing ever.
Wow nice one you caught some scary landings this day!
Hi Pilot Sander, fantastic video. I was on kl1474 landed around 1340. I don't suppose you have a video of that? It was a very bumpy ride!
Correction: Landed 1505 Lt, tail ID was PH BVX.
PH-BVX is not a KLM tail ID, maybe PH-BGX?
Perfect video, all airlines landed safely except Etihad airways diverted to Belgium make you think twice to fly with this company.
Delta A350 win the prize.
Thanks Sam. I’m pretty proud of that landing. Glad it was caught on CZcams.
Fantastic Vídeo
Amazing Pilots at Work 💯
My flight is the same day landed at Amsterdam I feel so afraid when the plane is landed thanks God for save me and the people in the plane when landed. Thank you for the video brother

Thanks guys. That was the toughest landing of my civilian airline career. Im very proud of it. I’m so glad it was caught on video. I rewatch it every few months to pump me up!
I liked the video. It's so thrilling and exciting to watch 👍
Two nights ago, Zürich, high winds, we managed to land third time after two go arounds. It was awful! But very thankful to pilot for good work. Embraer 190-E2. The planes on the video look relatively calm compared to what we experienced in the cabin.
Those passengers are having 1 wild ride that's for sure!!!!
I'm surprised these airlines are allowing these flights to land/depart with weather like that.
Man, KLM pilots really handle stormy landings well. Maybe the advantage of frequent windy weather at the hub..
Fantastic compilation my friend, really tough conditions, lot's of go around's (not only in Madeira, like many say)
Awesome!
Amazing.

yo, that was one smooth landing o.O

Amazing job by AC Pilot, true pro
Wow such skilled pilots. Is it only certain times of year it’s windy?
Those Delta Crew on 4:00 and 6:00 Skilled:)
Thanx Jay! That’s was actually the toughest civilian landing I’ve made in my career. I’m the 350 pilot
Hele gave video! Is dit gefilmd vanaf het dak van parkeergarage P3? Is dat echt alleen voor camera's of is het ook geschikt om gewoon te kijken (zonder camera)?
I don't know how they do it. That is some thick fog and just all around nasty weather. Bravo!!!👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏. You got some really good footage here btw. 👏👏👏👏👏👍
Those KLM pilots are pretty impressive
Amazing video! What is that deafening sound? It’s like a train screeching it’s wheels.
It is the sound of the wind slamming or going thru the steel construction and rasters of the parkinggarage. It is the wind houwling. I tried to mask/remove it but it wasn’t possible.
It appears to me that the B787 has the least stable glide slope at late finals, could the more flexible wings be a contributing factor to this?
The most stable approaches seem to be the A350 and A330, could the side stick be a contributing factor to this?
DELTA A330 IS THE G-O-A-T, BEAUTIFUL GREASED LANDING (4:36)
Not the nose gear
Absolutely stunning 🕊smoothest landing Pretty nice 🌹🕊Great pilot 🕊🛫👩✈️
Those landings were scary. I’m glad I was not on any of those aircrafts.
Amazing video, amazing skilled pilots. Would have loved if you could have caught the 747 landing after the go around.
The 747 Singapore actually diverted. It went to brussels.
That's a great location for planespotting. What place is this?
A big thank you for that amazing footage and also your skills beeing out there in that weather conditions. Appreciate it a lot. I love to see that x-wind landings, but i am also honest... What is that anoying sound at every planes landing in the background? It sounds like as i would standing next to an Ilyushin 62/76 or Tu-154 while on an engine high run. Thats the only negatvie thing, lets go forward with your cool job. regards from Vienna Austria, Tom
Air Canada pilots know what to do and how to do it. After nearly 3 million miles on AC have had a number of uncomfortable times but always felt safe. This AC crew was "right on the money" at AMS, first time. You cannot say that for a number of other carriers and their crews.
Some of these landings were incredibly smooth for any condition.
I’m going on holiday soon can’t wait to go I’m really excited 😆
Wow, Malaysia airlines touch down at Amsterdam, A330 200 fleet
Legend says that the 747 never landed and is still flying to this day.
Lol😂😂
questi Piloti sono i migliori al Mondo
Whats is the problen in the airplane?
Here in Canada we build some solid bad ass pilot. Get exposed in all kind of challenging weather, just watch the skill of the 1st landing!!
God blees Alle Piloten 🙏🏽🙏🏽
Can anyone tell me what that high pitched noise it? Sounds like a train coming to a stop or is there a factory near by? Great video though ☺️✈️
I saw this written on another video, but some of the go-arounds are windshear escape maneuvers; in the case of windshear the flight crew does not change the aircraft configuration, so if it takes a while for the gear to come up, the flight crew probably got a windshear warning
The 787 is the only airplane that can flap its wings.
Gotta give the American pilots a lot of props in this. Wow.
Those wings on the 87's don't flex anymore, they now flap. Lol wow! Can't wait see what the trip 7-X wings do in a storm with cross-winds like that?
American crew can be kamikazi in approach to head or tail winds. I remember a Continental flight where the pilots were very keen not to allow headwind determine how they flew. BA crew descended to a safe level and diverted to another country 😆
I wonder why the TUI 30:15 APU inlet door is open/is running. Does anyone have an idea?
I watched Flightradar quite a lot that day, but I never guessed go-arounds are also captured.
But Sander, with such heavy wind coming straight at you, you don't need as much landingspeed as in usual circumstances. Am I wrong?
Air Canada got it right on the first try 🙌
Well done, thx
In my island it's the same, when there's wind. So don't worry about it and plane it's the best. Cheers fr Madeira island. Ivo Pestana
Singapore Airlines cargo after 2nd atemp div BRU... i thoungt AMS are CAT3 airport where acft can land with zero vis ... can u explain
Hi Kau! I landed the Delta A 350 and I can explain. These were not CAT3 conditions (you can’t see the runway because the visibility is too low so you have to let the plane auto land). That was not the problem on this day. We could see the runway fine, the high crosswind and wind gusts (47 knot gusts 40 degrees off runway heading was the problem). The plane cannot auto land with that much crosswind, so we are required to land manually.
@@dwzaphod thank you Capt .. yup your A350 landed very smooth despite rough wx condition ..
I would be crying so scary
Sorry for the grammatical errors. My English is not so good. Delta Air Lines does not have in its fleet the A330-300 with RR engines (A330-343) in 3:43, but the versions with PW engines (A330-302 and A330-323).
Can already predict most airbus's landings to be smooth
I was listening to live atc...Etihad wanted to divert to london but london said they won't allow the crew etc to dissembark in london due covid restrictions....so they diverted to brussels
Amazing how 777 still are the ones best landings even facing A350 and 787.
I thought the same... and if it wasn't for the money, Boeing wouldn't have shit phases throughout history.
Have you ever seen Canadian Geese come in for a landing, it is very similar, flying high overhead then landing in a field, they fight the wind trying to gain a balance of lift at the same time you don't want too much lift because you want to land, so you have to spill some of that lift, with your wing, it's remarkable
This is why they get paid so well...... and they're worth every single penny.
I love the livery on the Malaysian A-330, it's simple but looks really classy.
Nice video, however the constant whistling sound it's very painful, could you do anything with post production? It's a real pity.
I know, it is the wind slamming or going thru the parking garage it’s steel rasters, I tried to remove it but it is not possible, sorry :(
@@PilotSanderHD no worries, was nice anyway. I subscribed. I was there too :)
