I have one of these the B model , ive done the anti "chuff"mod ,whitened the knob dents, and weighted the tuning knob," easy, just fill the gaps in the tuning knob with "lead shot" kind of thing and top it off with "two ,pack " epoxy glue! it works a treat and feels more "professional"
one thing though, I wish you luck with that "speaker"! because anything deeper than the "original 8 ohm" one will fit the hole, but you won,t get the top back on!! it,ll touch the internals of the radio!! good luck

With no sticker this is probably one of the original unmodified radios. The 'A' and 'B' models were later 'improved ' models and both had a sticker on the rear top right corner denoting this.Good work on the radio though. Also small point.Your 'RF gain' and 'Fine Tune' knobs are swapped over,The 'Fine Tune' shouldn't have a notch.😄

Hi, I just found your channel on this dx-394. What cord did you use to connect that to the battery? Thanks for the great video!

I have a B version of this radio that needs a refresh, a new extendable antenna and the mods. I love it dearly and I really want to keep it going. I just don’t have the skills or the eyesight to do it 😢.

I bought one of these 17-18 years ago, NIB for $100. It's an A model. Considering the original price I thought I got a whopper of a deal. These were $400 radios at one time. Unfortunately I was extremely disappointed in it. I bought it before I found out about it's problems. I was/am very disappointed in it. I finally gave up and put it back in the box and put it in the closet, where it still is after about 15 years. Radio Shack sure pulled a scam with these. I have since got my general class amateur license, and have an HF radio that receives everything from 160 meters to 6 meters, AM USB LSB CW. It's 10 times better than this thing. This does have a dual conversion receiver. While certainly not a top of the line radio, it should do better than it does.

Mine is the same board as his. I figgure it must be a 1st generation model. I'm getting ready to ship mine off to Lowbander to get it all done up.

Interesting I never saw this in the 1995 Radio Shack catalog. I believe it first appeared in the 1996 catalog but then if it's 10A5 it may have been produced a year before it was released? Or possibly the catalogs were printed in 1994 for the 1995 year. I'd be curious to do more research on this.
