I finish the Kyosho Turbo Optima. I had a plan in my head of how I wanted this to look, but as we all know sometimes we get it wrong 🤮🤮🤮
In the video as it starts coming together you’ll hear me trying to justify it 🤣. Anyway the finished car isn’t terrible but once you see it finished I’m intrigued to read your comments 😱🙈

I sit and stare at them for ages too. Once I paint them I then sit decals on it or use a little masking to hold them in place so I know they are in the right place.
You know what, this is the first shell you have done I am not sure about. I may have to screen shot it and look at it for a while. My initial thought is the shell should have two colours but I agree, the wheels throw me off too. I have seen you change the look of before with a simple wheel change and it transforms. The way you fitted the stipes is awesome and look perfectly placed.
The angled Optima at the front throws me a bit, I would have a decal so you see it straight from the front. I am always about lines though, just the way I am. I am no shell artists myself so I don't really have any ground to criticize but just my thoughts as requested 👍🏼

I was sold on the clear body shell. The differences in the gold colors didn’t even bother me, but the white body for some reason makes it stick out.

The man who never failed never actually tried! At least you have the guts to put yourself out there and do all your work in the full glare of the public eye. That's not easy! Big respect for that! For what it's worth, I like it. Yes, the wheel colour is an issue and maybe it needed a contrasting colour on the shell but it's still a great looking buggy. Keep it up!

You said it before I typed it but my choice would be white wheels and find a black car to put the gold wheels on. That said once you put it in the cabinet it looked totally different and spot on. I'd be very happy with it personally Glenn, great work 👍

Strip the gold off the wheels, polished alloy wheel look would make it pop and add a lil black, maybe black window nets and a few pin stripes to accent the gold, just my 2cents, ive just bought the kit and gold side bars, doing an orange jave body for it and an alloy wing.

I think that she's a stunner. Try looking at her with a black background. The white background and table doesn't help, just too much white. Try it and you will see that the car pops even more.

Wasn’t crazy about the shell till you put the writing decals on it that worked great. I think either white, chrome or even black wheels would work. All in all great job!

As soon as I saw the shell on there I thought the wheels need to go. It sucks as they are really nice looking but in the video the chassis and body look good together but the wheels stick out as completely different. I do think think the white wheels on there would tie it all together much better. I know it is a disappointment about the wheels but I think they gotta go to make it all work. Maybe you can strip the gold off of them and run them on something else as the raw aluminum??

just starting to watch youtube again after being on and off rc for a while due to health , but Glenn I AM Loving This Build especially this Body , its absolutely Gorgeous, its just not used to being only two colors and now for you to have pulled this off whit the decals and body in only two colors just goes to show how well you actually do these cars 10/10 seriously top notch and its 100% 1 off - she's a thing of beauty all round my friend , thanks for sharing your inspirations 🙂
Not a fail IMO as I do quite like it as it is. I do totally get your point about the different golds. I think it would look better with some black decals to break up the gold a bit. The window nets and side vents are not working in the gold for me so I’d have to change those to the kit decals (including the rear window louvres). With some additional black decals I think then you get away a bit better with the gold wheels but I think black wheels could look better so you could dye the originals? 😮

Maybe swap the decals for black ones and add some gold and maybe red highlights. I think the gold wheels look really good, they just clash bad with the decals.

If you use the white wheels, maybe keep the gold wheel nuts. This is a master show piece, mate. To show off the chassis with the body on, put a mirror under the car.

Hope to start my Turbo Optima build soon...maybe this weekend... have all the electronics now, a set of 2.2 wheels for running, and a runner body to paint up...

The idea is epic but I feel it just needs a darker contrast to make the gold decals pop. If it were mine I would put the. black louver decals on the rear. The black turbo optima nose strip and the black 210 numbers. Some of the turbo optima writing in black would also go on. I would be tempted to get a new set of gold turbo optima mid decals with the black outline still in place. As a finishing touch see if you could get the black turbo optima wheels and redo the tyre writing in gold.
Still nice to see something other than box art on that awesome chassis.

Great idea but the 3 shades of gold did pull it down. But the white wheel idea sounds like it'll work. Maybe use white plastidip paint? That way, if it doesn't work, you can just peel it off! Great effort as always!

Yeah white wheels for sure. Only thing I think is wrong with those wheels is they are so much darker than all of the other gold on the car. They just don't fit it for me.. I think if they matched the other anodizing on the car it would be totally sweet. But like everything it's all personal preference!

I kinda like it if you ask. But I understand that if you had an image in your head and then the result is not like that image or close... you don't like it. But, in mistake lies opportunity sometimes. Maybe you can build another special unit using the bodyshell as base for the rest. And for the chassis, a new bodyshell with a color scheme that fits you better. I know it may be too much but... 2 super special units with the magic Glenn touch... Sounds great don't you think🤔🤔
I love the white and gold, decals look amazing too. I think if those wheels were the same gold things would look different. That said, i would definitely try white or maybe chrome wheels tone things down. Get another set of tyres too, run the wheels that will not go in the cabinet. All that said, I would not be disappointed, this is my favourite car and it looks amazing

I see the (Days of thunder) transport up on the shelf. I had my Hi Lux the king cab version same truck different body. Love the turbo optima . My favorite of all you did a fantastic job on yours well done 👍🏼.
Hi Glenn. I think you're being a bit critical in this case. The car is a real eye-catcher and I think the gold on the decals matches the chassis perfectly, at least that's what it looks like here on my monitor. For me, only the gold of the wheels is different. The overall impression of a car stands and falls with the wheels. Maybe you should really try around a little to see which color suits best. In any case, the body and chassis go well together.👍😀

The body decals and the chassi Gold they look great!! The worst is the gold almost orange wheels! I would rather use the white wheels
I always thought that on one of the gold chassis anniversary cars leaving a clear body but still adding the decals might make an interesting display.
Well Glenn as I thought it's not as bad as u think,I'm not a big fan of the turbo optima body but this colour scheme changes my mind, usually black and gold go together but your choice with white and gold is fantastic and I would never of thought of that,but yes I do agree it's the wheels that are a little different shade,but I don't think it makes a massive difference to the overall look, I was thinking either white or black wheels, or find someone to strip off the anodising and have them re-dyed closer to your chassis colour,but like I say I think she looks lovely,nicest turbo optima I've seen 👌🇬🇧

Would be interesting to see the Car with a set of gold wheels like you have on the Hotshot int he cabinet on there just for looks. The body and the chassis seem to work but the orange gold seem to throw everything out. Which is why a yellow gold wheel may bring it all together looks wise. Try them for looks (obviously wont fit correctly) but give you a good idea on if it is the wheels or not.
But apart from the wheels it looks great....also wonder if black shell with the gold stickers (JPS style) would look good?

I agree, it doesn't look right, the wheels are too dark. You'd think the guy making the wheels would get a closer colour match, and yes I realize different annodisers use different colours but still... I wonder if you painted the white wheels gold would it match the chassis better? I think the body might look better with some black, maybe the window netting, rear louvers, side scoop vents and maybe leave off some of the sponsor decals for the less is more effect. The gold of the decals to me doesn't quite look bright enough, maybe it's just the way it shows up on camera. Also, I reckon put the right front bumper on and have the long gold decal along the front of it.
Or there's always box art. :P

The original Turbo Optima was my first RC car in 1986. Just this week I ordered the re-release along with the LeMans 240S motor and LeMans 240S ESC from Kyosho. I also found the gold side rails and wheels, which I also ordered. I will probably go with a paint job closer to the original.
Try a black body. As soon as those gold decals were applied. I was feeling a no. I like it too. But not ideal. I almost like it with a clear body. You should change it. Don’t settle. I feel something is missing.

I did one in Tamiya gun metal with bright gun metal wheels. It made the gold chassis and shocks stand out nicely👌
Individually mint. Together I’m sat on the fence. I see what you’re getting at with the different gold contrast. Wheels just a bit to much. Decals don’t look far off champagne gold colour? Maybe spray kit wheels to tone it down if you want to keep the look ? White could work with couple of decals to break them up a bit ?

Yeah, In think the problem is not enough contrast between the colours. So black highlights (?) here and there might help. Too many light colours for me.

I think if you had silver and black stripes to go with the gold it would look awesome. Looks good the way it is but I think i would have used either the satin silver or white wheels too.
Turbo optima looks good, try super hotshot wheels on it ? I think the gold wheels would be a better colour match
Oh yeah 100% that Tamiya gold would be perfect 🤩
Take a little bit of ammonia based automotive wheel cleaner, rub a little on the inside of one of the wheels and then set in the sun. The anodizing should fade and take the orange gold down to a little more yellow gold. Once you get the 'lightness' you want, take them out of the sun. Take note of how much time it took in the sun and do the faces of all the wheels accordingly.
Don't do white wheels, it'll be too much white and the whites won't match, especially over time. Try a set of black wheels with white lettering on the tires or better yet, gold lettering on the wheels. Use black wheel nuts too. I think it'll turn out really nice...the gold anodized wheels just kill the overall livery, imho. Other than that, turned out great.

Just grab some white wheels off another car and stick them on to get an idea of what it would look like and if the white works order some tyres for the white kit wheels and just keep the gold wheels with tyres for a future build. I think those Gold wheels would look awesome on another car with a black body.

I just did a custom graphic skateboard build and it didn't go as planned either . I know the feeling when the build ends up different than expected. But put on black wheels and it's going to look really good . Put the gold wheels back in your stock for future builds . The gold wheels are awesome just not a perfect fit . Thanks for your videos!

Put any tyres on the white wheels and see how it looks. Gold decals don't look too bad on screen, but obviously you can see the difference in shade.

If you just only could spray the body again with Ps-16 or Ps-59. With same decals and the great looking wheels, Then it would be off the chart 😁🤩. My opinion of course.

White wheels for the win! ...With the gold wheel nuts.
Black wheels, black '210' race number on the sides, black rear window louvres and side vent stickers, and black small sponsor logos (like the ngk etc) on the nose. Maybe a 1mm black pinstripe around the windows as well. The gold graphics on the white do look really nice, and the gold shocks are pretty close to the sticker colour when you consider they are totally different materials. The gold wheels are ick though for sure, However they would look quite nice alongside a black JPS paint scheme. I give it a solid 8.5 out of 10. Close to looking amazing, just needs a little fine tuning.👍
I really like it! But maybe swap out the text based decals to all black. I think you’re just missing some contrast in the body. So all the comparison is between to the 2 shades of gold which isn’t sitting right with you. Beautiful job though, love the sticker combos.

I like the look, why don’t you try the white wheels with the kit tyres just to see if they work. (Saved destroying the tyre writing ) and I would put the kit window / netting decals on to add the contrast.

I'm with you, it's not quite working. For me, the three shades of gold are over emphasised by the use of neutral white, especially the wheels. I think a metallic undercoat with white, with less gold decals, or a metallic black, or box art ;-) would work. Defo some opportunity to experiment further!

I think you hit the nail on the head at the beginning of the vid when you said having the body clear would be cool for displaying, I would do that and then have the body you have made hanging on the back of the display cabinet above the chassis with a clear body on the car..
Or have the chassis tilted at and angle with the body tilted at the same angle just above it to the side?
That body might have looked better with decals on but with no paint ! Actually, that would have been possible to check, if the decals would have been applied 1st. I have a never run Schumacher Cougar SV2 Buggy as a Shelfie with clear body and just a few tiny original decals because the chassis looks so awesome. I put a nice vintage motor in it (GM Dr. Speed) with which I had A LOT of fun some 20 years ago...I guess that shell will stay that way.

Yeah, I agree, the white rims will look cool together with the white body. The gold on the wheels is the one sticking out the most. Maybe some black decals as well, Turbo optima mid and some others in black ?. But the car looks awesome either way 😎.
