- The triple track mainline provided great entertainment, as well as heavy duty airplane traffic into JFK which flew right overhead.  Most trains and planes are identified.  A railfab and plane buff dream there yesterday.

I live by Merillon Avenue! I ride my bike over there to watch the trains all the time! Glad to see that it's finally getting some attention.

Was in the Bronx today for the Phillies vs Yankees game. Did a wee bit of railfanning with my son at Trenton and got a great picture of him with the NJ Transit PRR painted locomotive. Got to see the Amtrak 642 Veterans unit several times as it was on a Keystone train with another ACS-64.
Love the plane action, a reason why I joined the Air Force. Used to go to JFK and watch the various airlines takeoff. For some reason I was always liked Alitalia and Swiss Air's paint schemes
Nice vídeo. Really nice place for teain & plane spotting. As for the planes, at least untill now (haven't yet seen the whole vídeo), the 2 Virgin looked like 787-9s, and the others 787-8s. The Air Lingus is an A321LR (these newer "Buses" are easy to spot, with those huge turbofans)

Nailed it! Trains and planes. I grew up in the Bronx and was 2 miles from the 6 train but was under the approach to RW22 at LGA. At age 13 we moved to Garden City (just 2 blocks south of Nassau Blvd) and could watch planes on approach to RWY 22L at JFK, as you featured here. As a teen we we hop the freight trains from the Mitchell Secondary that passed through Nassau Blvd. That's a great spot for trains and planes. At about 7 miles from touchdown they're dropping the gear and usually slowing to 180 kts (207MPH). Keep catching the trains and try to catch my former employer- Delta! Cheers

I can see that the third track gives the schedulers a lot of flexibility they didn't have before. That Merillon Avenue platform is sure long! Do they really use all of it? BTW, you're good with your airline identifications as well; interesting having Israeli and Jordanian airliners consecutively. (I worked on the design of the 777 at Boeing in the early '90s, on loan from Grumman.)

Where is planespotting done at JFK now? Back in the late 1970's, I planespotted on the parking deck of the old Pan Am terminal but that is long gone.

Those trains have a lot of cars. I spent a few days on the South Fork about this time last year and when I saw an LIRR train going through Amagansett on its way to Montauk it had 1 or 2 cars, (if memory serves me correctly) I thought at first it was a bus.

Main Line is a great place to see rush hours train especially stations after Mineola to see Oyster Bay Trains flying through. Who was that guy in the Mets sweatshirt and camera?
