    I've been big my whole life but I could go so it didn't bother me but it eventually caught up to me. 3 years ago I shot an elk which happened to be one of my easiest packouts but it definitely wasn't because I'd let myself go. I told my wife I must make changes because the things I enjoy the most in life are slipping away.
    In 6 months I was able to lose 73 lbs 263 to 190,so many years of pain gone! I went from 43years old to 20. We were in Costco and as I looked around at all the crap in people carts. I told my wife if these people understood how much of there medical conditions were self induced by what is in there cart they'd never buy it again.
    Everything you've spoke about in this video is 100% spot on in my experience also. Keep up the awesome content.

    Hey guys. I did full carnivore for 90 days and lost 30 pounds of fat. Then I came across Dr. Pual Saladino and the animal based diet. He was carnivore for a couple of years and wasn't thriving like many others were so he added fresh fruit and raw local honey and has thrived ever since. I decided to do animal based and have been doing great. However, I did do well on carnivore too. Anyway, just throwing some more info at you incase you want to look into it. Keep the Carnivore base going. It's definately healthy. Mike

    Love the podcast and info and keeping us up to date with what you guys are doing. As I have not actually tried the carnivore diet it is very intriguing and somehow just makes sense with our evolution and biology. I have watched and researched a couple very prominent experts and doctors who "WERE" on the carnivore diet but have now changed there stance on it like Dr. Paul Saladino who was a hard core into carnivore diet but now has re-introduced some carbs and also Dr. Shawn Baker who has now done the same. What has stopped me from moving forward with the carnivore diet is because of the info that Dr. Layne Norton has presented with a plethora of data based science in regards to carbs and fiber and artificial sweetener. Keep in mind that Dr. Layne Norton's research is funded by the meat and dairy industry and is probably the most unbiased informative information I have found. He has been on many prominent podcasts like Andrew huberman, Thomas DeLauer, rich roll podcasts and many more. I guess what I'm saying is that based on the data the carnivore diet might be good as an "elimination diet" to figure out what might be causing issues or information it doesn't seem to be the healthiest or most sustainable especially if your doing intense workout. Muscles need glycogen. Anyway check him out for great info. Dr. Layne Norton

      Thank you. I’ve read this book and others with the same basic premise. Believe me, Doctor Hillary Lampers was all about that book and many others like it. Hillary and Ryan have done their research. It appears that they were very wrong about veggies. It takes character to change one’s previous position so completely. Of course, this is just an experiment for now-blood work is being monitored. We’ll see how we perform and feel 6 months from now. We might change our minds or we might stay the course. Time will tell.

    I'd be interested to see if you guys can actually produce a good study saying that saturated fats aren't associated with heart disease. Everything I've ever seen is that diets rich in saturated fats is associated with higher risk of heart disease. Realize that "feeling better" does not necessarily mean the diet is healthier long term. Nutrition is very difficult to study but the carnivore diet is almost certainly going to be found out to be highly associated with heart disease and decreased life expectancy. I totally agree with decreasing carbs and processed foods in general, but not eliminating fruits and vegetables.

    • @GrittyGearAndPodcast
      @GrittyGearAndPodcast  Před 5 měsíci +1

      The idea that saturated fats cause heart disease, called the diet-heart hypothesis, was introduced in the 1950s, based on weak, associational evidence. Subsequent clinical trials attempting to substantiate this hypothesis could never establish a causal link. However, these clinical-trial data were largely ignored for decades, until journalists brought them to light about a decade ago. Subsequent reexaminations of this evidence by nutrition experts have now been published in >20 review papers, which have largely concluded that saturated fats have no effect on cardiovascular disease, cardiovascular mortality or total mortality. The current challenge is for this new consensus on saturated fats to be recognized by policy makers, who, in the United States, have shown marked resistance to the introduction of the new evidence. In the case of the 2020 Dietary Guidelines, experts have been found even to deny their own evidence. The global re-evaluation of saturated fats that has occurred over the past decade implies that caps on these fats are not warranted and should no longer be part of national dietary guidelines. Conflicts of interest and longstanding biases stand in the way of updating dietary policy to reflect the current evidence.

    • @GrittyGearAndPodcast
      @GrittyGearAndPodcast  Před 5 měsíci +1

      Do a little digging and you’ll find out that the American Heart Association has already declared (very quietly) that a diet high in saturated fats does not increase your risk of cardiovascular diseases. And here’s a link to a podcast covering this topic: czcams.com/video/reXD2msNkXI/video.htmlsi=SKJPYnWeCCZ7NalB

    • @GrittyGearAndPodcast
      @GrittyGearAndPodcast  Před 5 měsíci +1

      In fact, the opposite is happening-the carnivore diet is proving to decrease “all cause mortality” including heart disease, diabetes and more. The blood work done on those who have been on the carnivore diet for 5-10 years looks better year over year. The research on the toxicity of plans is another area of concern. Everything we’ve been told by nutritionists has been wrong for the past 60 years. They told us to eat grains. They told us to eat low-fat foods. They told us red meat was bad. They told us we need fiber and phytonutrients from plants. The truth is becoming clearer and clearer every year. Still, I’m open to being completely wrong. But so far, the data and my own experience is telling me that I’m onto something big.

    • @derekkohlhase
      @derekkohlhase Před 5 měsíci

      All cause mortality is much different than control or incidence of these diseases. We don't have truly quality, clinically relevant studies on all cause mortality for any diet and especially not carnivore. Remember that changes in specific bloodwork parameters often fool us into thinking something is good long term. Examples being niacin for LDL and insulin for blood sugars. Making the numbers look better in the short term isn't always associated with the long term outcomes we think it will. In fact most things that "improve" short term measures on bloodwork and blood pressures have no significant long term benefits and some are harmful. When it comes to diet, the sad reality is the best data for the general population we have in regards to longevity and reduced risk of metabolic diseases is observational data on the Mediterranean diet. If you had a statistician and a doctor review some of these studies you mention and discuss the limitations, weaknesses and especially the lack of clinical utility, it would be a very discouraging discussion.
      I am a primary care doctor in Idaho and have and will continue to look at all of this because it is very interesting, but I don't think the evidence will ever far from the Mediterranean diet for general health. And truly, I'm not one to recommend the "named diets" because I think it can be overwhelming to people, but it really comes down to mostly lean meats, fruits and vegetables and limiting everything else. Exercise I think has an underrated contribution as well, primarily due to time constraints in our society. And when it comes to bloodwork for metabolic issues, unless we identify diabetes or really high cholesterol which suggests a genetic disorder, for people under 60 who aren't smokers, it does not really ever change the above recommendations. It's used more as a motivational tool. If bloodwork does change recommendations, it's to add a medication to those recommendations, made necessary largely by patients' reluctance to actually change.
      All to say, love the show, see y'all on the mountain, but proceed with caution on fad diets. @@GrittyGearAndPodcast

    Yall should look into Dr. Layne Norton (Biolayne) (an actual exercise nutritionist) absolutely ripping apart Dr. Lustig's segment on Huberman. I have no idea why Huberman left the segment with Dr. Lustig on his channel, Dr. Norton talked with Huberman and helped straighten a lot of Dr. Lustig's claims out, because, quite frankly, they're ridiculous.

    • @GrittyGearAndPodcast
      @GrittyGearAndPodcast  Před 4 měsíci +1

      Layne Norton is full of garbage--he's a grifter! Norton is all "fake news" and bullshit. Tell me how Lustig's claims are "ridiculous." Because anyone who tells you that seed oils are not harmful is "quite frankly ridiculous." Norton is a dumbass. I prefer the work of Anthony Chaffe and Sean Baker. Norton is a clout chaser--he finds other people's work and then "debunks" it. Norton's entire schtick is "debunking" every hot new interview that has dropped by someone more popular than himself. Ain't no way I'm taking any advice from Norton. But it's a free world out there--we can all choose to listen to whoever we like. But as for me, I don't listen to anything Norton says. Norton is for young people who want to be told that eating sugar and seed oils is all good because they don't want to stop eating crap. But when you're fit and 50 years old (like I am) I don't need a test or stats from Norton to know he's full of crap--when I eat the way Norton says I can, my joints swell, I'm bloated and I'm perpetually sore and I feel like garbage. Nah, Ima follow the advice of old dudes who are badasses. Sean Baker is a man I can get behind.

      @@user-kj5yi9ox3p - Here’s a video from Dr. Anthony Chaffee (Hillary and Ryan Lampers introduced me to him) talking about Norton. czcams.com/video/c0mwbA50rVw/video.htmlsi=HR30g7QWnyZUQv-L

      @@user-kj5yi9ox3p - I like Peter. I just read his book. I think he’s absolutely brilliant on the importance of exercise. But I think he’s underestimating the importance of diet. I’m blending the exercise protocols from Peter with the diet protocols from Chaffee. The Steak And Butter Gal is another CZcams channel I really like.

      @@GrittyGearAndPodcast that video was really helpful in showing what was wrong with Dr. Norton's video, coulda used a lot less ad hominem, but I now see why Dr. Norton may not be looking at all the facts in all their detail. Thanks for sharing it. As much as I would LOVE to pursue a carnivore diet, I'm still not quite sold on it, but I'll keep looking into stuff. I definitely don't trust the stuff Lustig said on Huberman's podcast though still hahaha
