  • This video is part 4 of 6 of finishing an old, unfinished garage. I came up with a way to finish all the walls for less that $150. You can do the same. The paneling was given to me, but you can find cheap or even free outdoor siding remnants on Craigslist or Marketplace.

I looked at doing this very project back before the covid thing. At that time I found a batch of these sheets at Lowes for like $6!!! I figured I'll come back later. When I did, during covid, they were like $32!!! OMG!!!!! Still sitting at $20-ish!

I did my walls with OSB in my garage but i put in double gang metal boxes i figured you can never have too many outlets and metal won't be damaged by being hit with something. and it is one hole for double the number of outlets. mine may be a bit higher because i was going to run a shelf down wall as a work surface and storage at around 38 inches so i wanted outlets above that high enough to not be hidden by things on shelf.

Won’t mold go in the wall from moisture? I was told to drywall or use peg board for the walls to allow air flow.

Wondering why you faced the rough side with the lines inside. I just completed my shop with 1/2” OSB. It’s over $30 a sheet where I live, and I used about 15 sheets for the walls. I didn’t need the lines, just measured everything. I like it much better than sheet rock.

some people that painted osb actually said it was better to paint the textured side with the lines the paint sticks better if you decide to paint it later.
i figured if i had the lines facing out it would be easier to find studs in future to hang really heavy items.

Any particular reason why you hung the OSB vertically and not horizontally? I think most people would have suggested the latter with staggered seams for the sheer strength. Not a criticism, just curious.
