    Figure Note:
    Stop-Motion Transformation of MMC Ocular Max PS-23 Ignis. ALL. BUILT. IN. Another great figure from MMC. To answer some burning questions: Yes, I know there is a base mode, and I don’t care. Yes, I know there is another pair of tabs on the back of torso mode, but they are difficult to line up blind and I’m not convinced they do all that much. Yes, I know you can go with the “popped collar” look. Maybe I’ll switch him to that for the final combination video just to give it that old-school toy look.

Every step of the transformation is documented in the frames of the video, in what I consider to be the best sequence. With minimal rubbing and minimal parts-parking.

    Man, I love everything this design does. The way the the ladder just fully collapses and insane, and while I’m sure some people will find the feet folding out cheaty, it’s handle so neatly!

    • @peolesdru
      @peolesdru  Před 3 měsíci

      The tiny feet is my only gripe, but they had to fit the combiner feet in those lower legs somehow!

      @@peolesdruIt would be mind-blowing to see MMC work out a way to integrate part of the feet into the leg bots & the lower part of the feet into the torso bot in future all-built-ins. Especially for a combiner with feet as big as Predaking’s.

    This one really made me appreciate the sped up versions of the animations you add to your videos, cause I think they helped me get a glimpse to how Mastermind approaches a transformation these days, or at least how they did it for this one. So thank you for those!
    For those interested, here's what I figured out:
    (I am looking at the conversion "robot to truck" specifically, here)
    I think it's all about "compartmentalizing", i.e. combining smaller chunks to get bigger chunks. Obviously, most transformers do that to some extent, at least flipping the hands into the forearms or the head into the chest, but what seems to make Mastermind different is that they layer it.
    The hands flip into the forearms, which combine with the upper arms to form one big chunk.
    The head hides in the other head, which in turn hides in the torso.
    The combiner feet hide in the shins, which combine with the upper legs.
    They keep layering these steps until they end up with just a few big chunks that need to be moved around each other and combined in simple ways to get to alt mode.
    This ends up making for a very chunky, satisfying transformation, which sets them apart from the more fiddly/panel-y styles like Fanstoys, Dreamstartoys or Toyworld, where every body part tends to explode into a bunch of flaps that you need to puzzle together into your alt mode.
    Needless to say, I much prefer Mastermind's approach personally, though it probably wouldn't be any good for designing bayverse toys, and tends to make sacrifices in accuracy/robot proportions.

      Most figures will have what I'll call a "big move" where the strategy is to get everything out of the way to prep for that move. Often there is more than one big move in a figure. MMC makes it all real pleasure because of the fractal nature of their transformation designs (as you observed). I tend to look for an exact middle configuration for triple-changes that I call the "primordial" mode. With some figures the primordial can be a REAL mess, but never with MMC. I actually had the cop car from XTB's Defensor set, but as soon as MMC announced I switched. Same thing happened to my preorders for the XTB Devvy.

      Pretty good analysis. I re-watched a few of the Dreamstar Aerialbot videos, and while some are cleaner than others, it's pretty hard to tell what altmode parts are forming what robot parts in all of them.

      @@maxmocs5008 DreamStar's bulk transformations are relatively simple (legs together, arms to the side) but all the kibble management is where they get complicated.

      @peolesdru it's just I got the Zeta Bruticus, Superion, and the Jinbao OS Devy. Also, the Xtransbots Menasor. I believe all the MMC combiners are slightly shorter. I haven't committed to a defensor yet, so we shall see.

      @swingbass05 Před 3 měsíci +2

      I have MMC's Bruticus and Zeta's (black) Superion. It's shorter than Zeta. But it's so much fun to mess with. The engineering behind the bots is incredible, every move makes sense, and it's a lot of fun.
      If you're just doing MP display, Zeta is where it's at. But I don't regret my MMC purchase one bit and it's probably the combiner I mess with the most.

    The step at 0:40 is such a cool alternative to the classic combiner "hip widening" move.
    Would you consider it less annoying than the regular method?
    The normal method tends to give me a hard time, cause having two heavy joints that move in the same direction can make it hard to move them individually
