Anyone who says the trailer is not worth saving has never seen you work. You really go in and not just repair damage but correct sort of z grade workmanship in the initial manufacturing. So I have confidence you will do a great job on this one.

So much high quality progress! I was surprised the joists run lengthwise. I appreciate that Ashley and Doug tackle projects exactly how they tackle life - one bite at a time. It seems to help keep a better perspective, not as overwhelming. Plus no worries re snow, ice, bitter cold, etc.

It let's you see how to break down a big project and get it accomplished in an organized manner, and they always give the reason why they are doing something a certain way. My brain will see a problem, but it generally sees the whole problem. Seeing it played out in bite-sized chunks as you say really helps.

I wish I had seen this 30 years ago. We bought a mobile home that I hated and my husband was not into carpentry. God told me I needed to be happy where I was at so I started to make my home liveable. Reframed windows and other things. It can be done just takes time. Good luck on your project. Love your videos.

Back "in the day" (1984) my younger, more agile years, I purchased two abandoned trailers for 500 bucks. One was a 1961 Victor 10x60 with a 9x14 slide out and the one next to it was a 1960 Champion 10x60. Both needed gutting. This was my first total reno job, and I learned a LOT from trial, error and mistakes. I pretty much lived at Grossman's for a year! LOL I had to replace the rim joists and sister about 50% of the floor joists and wall studs due to rot. A lot of the rot was just from the aluminum siding sweating during the winter months from it being sub-freezing out and warm inside. I used pressure treated for the replacements. I also ran strips of tar paper on top of the floor joists to keep squeaking/creaking down. With the temperature range we have here, it's an annoying issue in any home. Lived in the Victor til '90 and then rented it out until '93, the Champion was rented from day one, and sold that in '93 as well. Nice profit! 🙂 You guys are doing an awesome job!!!

It may seem and look hard but having removed all the wall coverings and those divider walls has made it very easy. You are doing the right thing, and I have to say if they had not used plywood for the floor sheeting then the joists would have been in much worse shape.

Good morning Doug and Ashley, i'm nearly 60 and have been remodeling mobile homes since i was 23. The 1st was is always the scariest. Then there was no cell phones, so no youtube or googling for help. I just started cutting and putting bqck. Since, i have remodeled 7 mobile homes and nearly finished with husbands and my "rest of our life" home and has been a drawn out remodel, in hopes to be in it in a couple months. Still, after all the remodels i've done, it gets overwhelming. I just walk away and go back later. I still love watching y'all and your knowledge ane progress in eqch video.

@marleneppaul - Doug & Ashley started in a whole bunch of debt. I hope you go back to the very beginning because you can see how very frugal they were and actually still are. They have worked so hard to get out of debt and stay that way and it has been one nail, idea, dream, research, blood, sweat and tears at a time. This channel I believe helped them and kept them pushing forward even when times got hard. There is room for everyone on YT… I believe in you! You can do even a small repair and you will feel better for it. If I’m not mistaken Doug and Ashley either filed bankruptcy or were on the verge and they turned it around with A LOT of hard work. It has been amazing to see their growth, their idea blossom and of course their beautiful kids grow.

  • @kimbernard9250

honestly, when you first started, and gutted, I thought, "why are you bothering? Just demolish it." I'm seeing the possibilities now. I never want to be a landlord, but I can see where if you get decent, well-qualified tenants, the cost to refurbish it will be reclaimed and turned into residual income, or sold for a one-time profit. My only thing, and this is just my hang-up, is that I'd take the half day of labor to power wash the outside right now. The mold/mildew on the exterior shell makes my skin crawl (that's always my cringe point on any home renovations that I see). The inside framing and flooring is looking so good, so impactful. Cleaning up the outside would be just as visually impactful as that and as impactful as cleaning up the land and removing the rotted decks were.

Steel frame, aluminum framework, stainless steel top. I have gutted it out out but didn’t have the rot to contend with. I have built the window frames and installed window. Next is closed cell spray foam. It will be insulated like a YETI cooler. If I would have spent the time I spend watching your videos I would have been finished by now.

I am wondering if you will put some kind of water barrier under the house to protect the subfloor since it is just plywood or if that is not done. Look forward to seeing the progression.

Hi! I was watching Mack @MidwestMagicCleaning yesterday and he mentioned how much he enjoyed watching your channel so I decided I’d come check you out. I’ve been watching your 1984 trailer demo and restore since yesterday and I love it! I especially like how you made a folder with all the trailer videos at one place. It saves me from searching and wandering what the next video is. Thank you so much for taking the time to make watching this 1984 trailer restoration so easy for us to watch! You and Ash keep up the awesome work! I am a new subscriber now and have given a 👍🏻 to all the videos I have watched so far! 😊

I have a double wide trailer and this is giving me ideas on how to repair some areas on my floor that will have to be replaced soon. Thanks for the info.

Doug and Ashley, Good Morning! I had the same roof on my mobile home. I put 1x2 Perlins over that same metal roof and put a metal roof on. The key is, run the metal roof about 3-4 inches past the roof. In NC we get the same downpour of rain every afternoon. The water runs away from the home so fast that the seam you prayed off to get your window in has never been a factor. It has been 10 years and still no leaks or seepage. Just my experience with that same mess! Love your videos! Keep them coming! Cheers!
