That Samurai is a real buck saver when it come to bucking logs. A way to also save your back is to build a log table at the height of of the Samurai and load it with the forks on the tractor. The table can be made with 4x4s Many saw mills use the table idea to cave their backs. 5k subscribers is a big step Good luck.

On some saws the table moves but on your saw the blade moves. Poplar is a hardwood. To support the end of a long log I would recommend a 22.5 inch truck wheel, with the bearing, to make it turn easily. Normally there is heavy oil in there but you could replace it with hydraulic oil to make it turn more easily. Set one end of the log on top and then lift up the other end of the log. The log will be rolled by the wheel but the wheel will stay in the same place. It needs to be on a stand. No more weak roller stands. Should last longer than the saw. It could have wheels for easier movement
One we got the cut table move into the cutting blade . Heavy log cut them into 48” inch , buzz saw are fast plus less sawdust from them to . You should just hold your hard on bigger pc, should move because pull into the cutting blade . Great video.
That Samurai would be the stupendous...est firewood machine ever, if only they changed a few things, like everything about it, then added some stuff, and powered it with a Lawn Boy mower or Remington chain saw! Or maybe plug into your favorite Yugo!! It's impressive how much wood you throw back for your own home heating out of those short logs! In spite of my misgivings, it's prob worth every bit of the $350 you paid!! A good way to save your back is have someone else do it!! It really does save some effort on the smaller limbs, enough that you could prob get your friends and Rachel to do it, kinda like Mark Twain's hero painting the fence! - Seriously, I could tell you what I really think, but I've taken up too much space already. Your boys are pretty impressive workers, by the way!!
Maybe your view of it will change once I get it integrated into my processing center plans. If I ever get my truck, tractor, etc back so I can get my setup finished. Maybe not, everyone runs different set ups. But I definitely agree that the boys are workers.
One thing I can see you making for it is a support stand for the infeed. Next mod would be a laser sight instead of the rod. Noticed that there is a unit with the log splitter attached to it. Wonder if that would be of any benefit.
Great comments and all meant to increase productivity. I like the processing bench ahead of the Samuria and throw that into a dump trailer, from there to the spitter, look at the Easton/Wolfridge splitters, much faster and back into a dump trailer to stack. Less touch time, means more money, go big or go home. Once you do it, you will kick yourself for not doing it earlier. 😍

If its something like cherry or ash and no bigger then 12-14 inches a lot of times I will just get out the Fiskars axe. I have a slow old splitter. Considered buying a new one but with the crazy wait times and talking around $10k think the one I have will work fine for now. I did just find one on FB Marketplace that was bought new in Nov but its not really what I am interested in. Its a Timberwolf can't think of the model but I looked and its $9750 new. Guy had it listed for $10k after he said he has split probably 150 cords with it lol. I get it you don't want to wait 6-12 months for one but not gonna pay new price for that. It looked half beat already. I see I looked again and he lowered the price to $8500. I would consider for say $4k range. It had to have already paid for itself. Its so new I don't understand why he would be selling it anyway unless he bought a better splitter or something is wrong with it and he wants it gone. I know I watched a couple videos and heard some issues. The pusher plate for one is way to small but the one video I watched because that plate is so small and the guy was trying to run the 6 sway a big oak round came back and smashed the hydraulic tank so hard it busted it free from the frame and caved in the side and the engine is right there to get smashed too and he said it had a few hydraulic leaks all within the first couple days of owning it. If somebody had those issues within the first few hours of running don't think I want to pay $10k for a beat one
I have a few questions, how much power is required, where do you get such a machine and is it affordable for the average Joe? When you do 30 plus cords this would be a game changer, thank you for sharing.
I believe they call for like a 25hp tractor. I bought mine from Eastern Farm Machinery in Ontario Canada and paid a little under $2k if I remember correctly but there are cheaper models available.
Just think what those boys could get done if there splitter weren't as slow as Honey durning the cold winter...As far as the saw, I have one very similar to yours, I love it and use it alot on the smaller logs. Rodney

Boy does that Samurai make the cutting look sooooooo easy. Now that you've had the Samurai for a while would you still prefer the PTO driven or would you go with a gas model and free up your tractor and save the hours on it? I can see you loading multiple logs onto pallet forks and bringing up to the height of the table and just pushing them onto the rollers.
I would prefer an engine driven model for sure. However they don’t make the Samurai with its own engine. They make the Ninja where you move the table to a stationary blade. Still really like the way the Samurai operates. It puts a smile on my face when I run it.
Will your other tractor the Massey Ferguson 35 run this saw well , I think you said you are building a heavy duty log stand and with the new Land Pride front grapple to load the stand would certainly make it more efficient indeed . The front grapple could load your transfer table with rounds to the splitter and save your back ?
Yes the Massey runs it well, I just need to get some maintenance done to it. I also have plans for a loading table but have not started that project yet. The new grapple will definitely come in handy!
Agreed. I plan on eventually trying to get a system where I can feed straight to my splitter from the saw. I will be trying a few different methods and see what works best.
Roller track for the indeed to the samurai, the another section on an incline to the splitter. Let gravity do the work, after you load the logs on the deck. Basically it's the same as a sawmill, each phase has a little drop to it.
Mark, I have picked up some roller tracks and a small treadmill style conveyor. Just need my tractor back out of the shop and some time to get my system in place!
JB, that was a home built splitter and it was crazy slow!!! I changed a few things on it in a later video and got it down to a respectable splitting time but nothing like what we run now.
For picture perfect very specific logs that seems like an ok saw. But if Iam getting tree service wood on a regular basis. Not so much. My65 y.o. back is hurting just watching all that lifting
I haven’t used any tree service wood. I usually harvest my own timber. I have run some knotty not perfectly straight stuff through it and it’s okay but definitely excels at straight clean trees.
I bought it from a dealer near Guelph, Ontario Canada for just over $2,800USD. The Ninja was about $1,000 cheaper but with that saw you rock the log to the blade instead of pulling the blade through the log.
No doubt. I plan on building a staging rack so I can load it with the tractor forks or grapple. Then bump one log at a time over a stop onto more rollers so I can pull it through. I have a plan just not enough hours in the day lol.

Palax is one finnish maker of firewood processors (infeed, cutting, splitting, outfeed). Japa is another, Joe at Ohio Wood Burner just upgraded to a Japa 405 from a Japa 365. We here in Finland have a slightly different approach to making firewood than for example Eastonmade, Wolfridge and (was it?) Dynastar. Those who make "more" firewood over here usually buy/get around 8"-15" diameter logs. We don't have that much big trees, and then trees from second thinning is around the "right" size. The big ones take ~20" logs. We usually go for PTO-driven or electric, not "own" engines exept for the mobile "roadversions". Joes Japa 405 with a Kubota was a special, we will see if everyone will want one after this. Palax, Japa and HakkiPilke are all brands in the same company. Slightly different approaches regarding chain/blade, left/right, automation/"old school" and stuff like that. I would call it healthy competition, we are just a small country but exporting really nice machines. Kone cranes, Ponsse, Wärtsilä, Logset, Valtra, Nokia (before Microsoft came) and so on 🤗.
Thank you for all the information. I would love to have a processor! However at this time my wife said no to the processor so I settled for the Samurai and a new splitter for the time being. It is amazing what equipment is available these days.

Nice little saw. A little diesel motor or a pto equipped lawn tractor could free up your tractor. Could be worthwhile leaving your bucket against the saw so that you can load a fair portion into it as it falls off the saw. You might want to move further from the tractor and closer to the camera when you're talking into the mic. Most of what you've said got drowned in the background noise.
Appreciate the feedback. I know I need to shut down the equipment or move away I just get busy and forget, definitely need to get better at that. I have been keeping an eye out for an older tractor to run the Pto and may pick one up eventually, I agree it would be much nicer to buck right into the bucket.
I know you most likely get paid someway to advertise that saw but they are crap.. They are overpriced for what you get.. I can give you names of 2 that are way better built then the one you have and cheaper
Not paid at all! This is the best I could find when I was shopping. So far overall I’ve been pretty happy with it. I have found a few weak points but overall I’ve been happy. Definitely interested in what else is available!

My grandpa had something similar he built years ago he ran off his old Ford tractor. Nothing this complex but the same idea.

Those 2 upgrades are on my list! I saw the one with a splitter but already have my splitter on order.

Agreed 100%. New splitter has already been ordered. I have also purchased a few items to build my infeed table.

Every minute I run it I have to remind myself, it’s faster then doing it by hand…..
I think sometimes I’d be faster by hand lol. But a lot more tired by the end.

You need have the log measuring held down from the top . Probably small light pc off chain .

Yep MF 35 most were 4cylinder gas , easy to work on and easy to split to put a clutch in too

I would find a way to cut into a barrow or a feed box. I hate the idea of picking stuff up to cut it and dropping it on the ground over and over.

The Blade is 700mm or 27.5 inches.

i would replace the measuring device with a lazer pointer or a colored point light source
I may consider that, my next step will most likely be a hanging chain but a laser could work too.

You should test a Palax, that one doesn't seem to split, at least not that effectilly...å

if that log splitter was any slower you would be doing yesterdays work
Daniel, for sure! We were able to get the cycle time on old blue down to 11 seconds from the painfully slow 24 seconds it was running at.
