- At 96 years old, WW2 veteran Walter Nixon will revisit the battlegrounds he fought at during the 1943-1944 Italian campaign.
As he landed at Anzio and the battle of Monte Cassino raged on, the only comfort to be found by British soldiers was the kindess from our international comrades. The Royal British Legion will be taking Walter and his family back to Anzio for the first time since his service, where he'll recall the generosity of his American comrades, the loss of Captain West and life underground as the soldiers took shelter from enemy attack. Watch and share his incredible story.
My birth father Arthur Herbert Charles Birch was killed at Cassino 18/4/44. I was adopted in May 1945 by a wonderful family but I eventually visited his grave at Cassino British Cemetery in 1995. Very moving to think he never really knew his children. ....but rests there in peace ...and I could trace him and visit. All love .
Thank you for your service
