- Two Behringer PRO-800 are more than just the sum of two great synthesizers. Thanks to the complete MIDI implementation they can be combined to provide a sixteen voice analog super synth. So I plugged in my headphones and sustain pedal to fully enjoy my new PRO-1600:
00:00 Intro
00:33 MIDI
00:59 Chaining
01:43 Ping Pong
02:20 Conclusion
02:42 16 Voice Mono/Stereo
03:43 Pad Jam
04:58 Arp Jam
06:45 Dark Jam
08:14 Final Jam - Hudba
That's just amazing sounding, well done. Behringer should hard consider firmware making onboard poly-chaining possible.
Many thanks for the feedback! 😊
Probably one of the most incredible sounding "bang for the buck" combi ideas in a long time. It reminds me of stuff that I heard from synths like the Rhodes Chroma, the Roland JX-10/MKS-70 or even the Oberheim Matrix-12/Xpander.
Thanks for the great feedback! 😊
Why not the obvious great Prophet 10? Basically two Prophets combined that can be layered. Like here...
no doubt, sounds so sick (prophet 5 owner)
@@Magnus_Loov You might be right about that. I haven't done a comparison between the "doubled" Pro-800 and the Prophet-10 yet...so I cannot tell.
I struggled for a week to decide which new synth from Behringer I was going to buy. I listened and read a lot about the monopoly, ms-5 and the pro-800. I´m really happy that I bought the Pro-800, it´s a total no-brainer synth for under 500 euro! After I have learned the synth I will buy a second one and have 16 polyphony monster synth with an incredible stereoimage for a total of around 900 euros. That is unheard of!!! Such a bargain, other synth companies struggles to release synths with this much features or they are just ripping us off.
Nice to see someone doing proper sounds with it and not just harsh effects!
Many thanks! 😊
These are some of the nicer tones that I've heard come out of this synth.
A 16-voice analogue poly for £700. Lovely music too. :)
Many thanks! 😊
It sounds absolutely stunning! :)
Thanks a lot! 😊
Great video, insane setup! Sounds absolutely amazing
Thank you so much! 😊
Well I guess I’m going to be ordering a second one now. That sounds absolutely magical.
😊
Wow. Thanks for posting, what fantastic stereo panning sounds you get with this. Mine is supposed to arrive on Monday. I might need to order another!
Thank you so much! 😊
Wonderfull !! Great performance, thanks Pete!
Thanks for the great feedback! 😊
This sound absolutely fabulous!
Many thanks! 😊
Although not in the market for a poly right now, this was a joy to watch and listen to. Brilliant.
Thanks a lot! 😊
Uhh it really shines with a good reverb. Thanks for the show
Thanks for the feedback! 😊
HOLY COW!!!! I have an alert here in the States, to let me know when they're in stock.... after hearing this I just might need to buy two of them :) Sub'd
😊
Super sick !
WOW. WHOAH! Excellent, all around, excellent.
Thank you so much! 😊
Very good demonstration - thank you for sharing!
Thank you for the nice feedback! 😊
I just got my one a couple days ago, it might be my new favourite synth I own. And your video might have convinced me to get another 😅
😄 Many thanks!
sounds super sick awesome work
Thanks a lot! 😊
We should bug Behringer for them to upgrade the firmware to include polychaining
Wow, sounds really nice, good job Pete!!
Thanks a lot! 😊
Thank you, now I need two Pro 800🤣. Great sound.
Thanks for the great feedback! 😊
You nailed it Pete!
😊
I just got the idea today on pairing 2 Pro-800's and it looks like I had an excellent idea. I just gotta buy one more to get the show on the road. Great video with lots of good tips Pete! I'm new so subscribing NOW!
Thanks a lot for the great feedback! 😊
Wow sounds great
Many thanks! 😊
I enjoyed your Pro-1 video this is no different. Thanks.
😊
This is fantastic
Thanks a lot! 😊
The Pro-800 pair sounds 🔥 incredible 🔥!!! These cost what? $800 for the pair? Wow!!! What a steal!!!
Oh no, not another notification.. What is it this time? Aww, it's Pete Midi!! Yeah!! Good to see you Pete!! It's sounds unreal!! Amazing track!! Thank you!!
Many thanks for the nice feedback! 😊
Beautiful
Many thanks! 😊
Well, that arp jam done it for me
😊
Behringer please, Poly Chaining.😀 Sounds Great.
It's a absolutely great sounding unit. Sounds very lush. It should have been made stereo by default.
Hoi hoi Johan hoe gaat het nog met je ? groeten Pieter
So great!👍
Thanks a lot! 😊
Great video Pete! I am still trying to understand how you sync them together.
This is great
😊
I'm thinking it might be possible to get a similar stereo effect by splitting the output into two cables, run one into a delay (with a short delay) and the dry signal into your DAW. Or you could use delay similarly configured in a DAW.
I can’t even get one yet and I pre-ordered months ago .
I need an 8 voice model d built on this platform, polychain, stereo, modern voice panning, etc ... lets go!
Wow, sounds massive
😊
Beautiful landscapes you are creating! I just received my Pro-800 and makes me wonder, should I have ordered two immediately 😀
😊 Thanks a lot!
Another chaining method could be using a device that splits the MIDI stream by odd/even numbered MIDI notes. Even notes (C whole-tone scale) go to MIDI Channel 1 and odd notes (C# whole-tone scale) go to channel 2. So the Pro-800s would be set to MIDI channel 1 and 2 respectively, The Yamaha MEP4 has this function as an example.
Yes, this could also sound Interesting!
Great sounding 16 voices analog for less than 800E. is a mind blowing thing: it would be nice if you would make a sort of "how to" tutorial, because is not clear if the Pro 800 manual teaches this procedure.Thanks.
Thanks for the nice feedback, and yes I will make a little tutorial 😉
Remember the DX/TX models had midi overflow so you could daisy chain them together for 32voice polyphony. Would be an excelent idear for such a fairly cheap synth
What a beast 😁.
😊
Man, this sounds absolutely amazing. (making me regret just getting a rev2 haha)
😉 Many thanks!
dont regret. the rev 2 is much more versatile. keep both. they compliment each other well. besides, the rev 2 can do binaural as well. I've both and they're very different beasts. both excellent
@@specialistsound Thanks - ahh was more a price thing, I'll be sticking with the rev2 for sure - has some space to grow into. If I get a hankering something complimentary - good to know this is quite a viable and affordable option
hey Pete, have copy this and it sounds amazing in real stereo, even without effects. both set to the same midi channel, for playing an receiving program change 😎but i find it more interesting to stop receiving midi ccs for adjusting parameters independently! Amazing stereo synth wall 😊 a
Many thanks, yes there are several ways to combine them, I have also experimented with a setup similar to yours 😊
I was pretty sure I would be getting 2 of these and this demo confirms it. Ping pong voice spread is one reason while stacking very similar patches is another. Particularly panned LR with repeating offset modulation on the cutoff. My guess is (you could confirm this) the LFO global and free running instead of per voice w/gate reset. As such there would be phase offset between two units which is the desired state.
Thanks for the feedback - yes, global and free running
@@PeteMidi yup, gonna need 2. I can see myself bringing in an LFO through an enveloped VCA to one and the inverse to the other with the VCF CV input as well.
Nice! You effectively created a binaural synth! 🔥👍
Yes 😊 many thanks!
Astonishing! Thank you. Please try sone stereo bouncing plucks on your next video 🙏🙏🙏
Thanks for the feedback! 😊
You’re just a Joy to watch and to listen to, Pete!
I want a Novation Summit SO BADLY. I feel like the inter-cranial [resonance] depth knob I had implanted is set to “11” and…it’s a job to access the knob for adjustments.
My point: and other times I reflect on how far $1750 (preowned Summit) would go on Behringer: 2 Pro 800s, the Poly-D….and more! Of course, Summit has ❤Many Mini Many trips up its sleeves and some killer FX, etc.
My more immediate Wish is that YOU would pick up a Jew MiniMonsta2 16 Voice (for $300) and/or 8 Voice Bitimbral and put THAT through you Science Laboratory!
Thank you so much - I understand your love for the novation, a huge synth, too big for me, really in terms of physical dimensions 😉
@@PeteMidi it’s a beast, you’re correct. I personally think it smokes the polybrute, for example-in tech AND [gorgeous] Sonics). I should repent, be a more modest human and desire a PEAK instead.
Yeah!
Sounds really nice. I would prefer to put them in parallel and emulate a Prophet 10.
GREAT! tell more about midi hub and iOS App (and what can replace it) please! I am waiting for my pro-800 and I think I will just double track it )))
Many thanks - yes, I will prepare a little tutorial!
Pad jam ah 🤩
😊
Great sounds and setup! - hopefully they add polychaining via the firmware one day Pete. Better would be to let it fit in one box, but that will be difficult because of potential heat issues we think...
Thanks for the nice feedback! 😊
You are welcome@@PeteMidi
Playing with the panning on each separately would've got some nice results
this is a very nice approach to solving the pan mod, plus you get 16 voices.
The issue I have is if you're not playing chords, you get a very reactive pan focus, with each key strike.
These are $699 here, 2 would be close to the of better synths, I just wished they had the pan mod which would solve having to buy 2. I would pay an extra $100 to see this happen too.
Thanks, but I'm not aware of better analog poly synths for 700 with stereo...
@@PeteMidi this is true but I paid 1K for my DM12D which is why I posted what I did.
I know Behringer can make analogs stereo, just on this occasion, well knowingly it came with the GliGli mod and pan retro fit, that they should have thought abt doing it.
@@dankeplace yes, perhaps it was just a price calculation ...
Is there a way anyone knows of to create a set up like with the ping pong allocation like this on logic?
anyone have an opinion of the 800 vs. the dreadbox nymphes, as far as sound?
This does sound truly fantastic! Of course now the question is would the UB-Xa be that much better for the few extra Euros?!
Thanks for the feedback! 😊
Very nice soundscape! I just received my Pro 800 today, and already am thinking of getting a second to create a 16 voice stereo polyphonic as you did. What is the name of the app you used to manage the voice allocation? Thanks!
Thanks a lot 😊 I used the Mozaic app
@@PeteMidi Thanks, I downloaded the app. I take it you used the preset Channel Randomizer as the starting point to create your own alternating stereo voice allocation script? I used Polythemus to chain multiple analog mono synths in order to create a poly synth. That was fairly easy, but it can only go up to 8 voices max. Mozaic looks much more powerful, and it will take more work to create a 16 voice poly. Any tips?
@@psionic111 I will provide a little tutorial and my Mozaic patch very soon!
hi. could you please offer a guide on how to sync both units in a DAW? such as cubase, logic, ableton or whatever. As though they're 1 synth? no probs if not. very impressive demo btw
Thanks a lot! 😊 Yes, I will see if I can provide a simple solution for ableton...
radical ********:)
😉
Thanks for this great video! Out of interest, how would you compare this to the Dreadbox Nymphes? What would you say? Are there relative merits and demerits, and most importantly, how does this sound of each voice compare? Any comments very welcome.
Or compared to the deep mind, 12, again in terms of the sound
PRO wins in nearly any aspect, except for the modulation capabilities.
Never had a deep mind... 🤷♂️
@@PeteMidi Thank you so much for your rapid reply. The thing that put me off the Dreadbox Nymphes was the lack of any form of display, combined with far too many functions per knob in my opinion, making the whole thing appear very unintuitive. And one could argue that one of the benefits of hardware synthesisers can be in the ability to intuitively change the sound during a performance. Whilst I think this is possible on the Nymphes, I think it’s a long way from intuitive.
@@PeteMidi oh, I don’t know, you seem pretty deep minded to me!
really nice sudden switch from dissonance to harmony in that jam! What parameters are you tweaking there? Just adding an lfo to create wide vibrato?
Thanks, I guess you mean the glide parameter in the last jam
@@PeteMidi yes that's it cheers
First one just arrived, so nobody is getting anything useful out of me today.
If you change a parameter on the slaved unit, does it 'snap' back to the master if you change something or maintain the offset?
Yes, it takes the same value as the master.
My morning mantra music
😊
I wonder how it would sound if you recorded half the notes of a sequence panned slightly left then the other half panned slightly right?
Nice one! Can you tell me if the Pro-800 send Midi CC out so that you can use it also as a midi controller? Thanks!
Thanks - yes full midi implementation, knobs send cc!
@@PeteMidi Yes!!! Thanks for your reply!
How much would this setup have cost back in the day (80's, 90s etc)?
half a house :)
Depends, after digital synths and samplers came on the scene, people thought analog was obsolete. I shoulda picked up the Jupiter 8 that I saw for $600 bucks. My $99 six~trak just isn’t the same.
So no native polychain option in the setting? If the model D has it why not this one 🤔
Because it's a polysynth 😉
@@PeteMidi to be fair, they could still have chosen to implement it for precisely this scenario, i.e. to increase the polyphony with additional units
Yeah that's disappointing they didn't implement polychain
The minilogue xd has it. I Think this could be a good marketing move, cause it means selling 2 units per user 😄
The better to sell people on the Pro16.
Missed this when it came out. Awesome video. Think you will keep both? Keeping the Pro-1 or too much overlap (isn't the pro-1 still more punchy for bass/leads after they fixed the 800 envelopes)?
Thanks! I'm unsure if I will keep the pro-1, the Pro-800 now has also some punch and a full midi implementation...
WHoooooa ! 🤠
😉
Imagine you are floating on a cloud, time has slowed down. Glimpses of the 70s and 80s poke their head through the space-time continuum... oops, sorry, back from the world of dreams. Very meditative music though.
😄
wait...the knobs send CC?
Yes, definitely
@@PeteMidi that's a killer feature in itself
lol pro-1600
double the pleasure ?
Yesss! 😊
It's always been my fantasy to play with two at once!
Sünd.😂
😉
Well darn.. I was planning on buying just one Pro-800 🫤
😊
@@PeteMidiwhoa.. the psychedelic arpeggio at 6:57 sounds incredible 😮
