I love how much you liked Captain and I Don’t Want It! They’re very underrated tracks. My favorite part about Ween is just how much they don’t care lol. They just make whatever kind of stupid track they want followed by an atmospheric masterpiece. Definitely try The Mollusk from Ween as well!
IMO I dont want it is slept on so hard, its such a powerfully emotive song and one of my favorite examples to bring up when i encounter someone being dismissive of ween and the insane talent the whole band has. deaners guitar skills, geners wild vocal range and incredible songwriting, Claude's a fuckin machine on the drums and glen and dave are great too lol.
This album was written during one half of the duo's divorce. It's quite personal, The Mollusk is my personal favorite Ween album, but it's not too serious. Ween can get really weird and experimental sometimes, The Pod is absolutely crazy.
An ex-girlfriend introduced me to Ween. She gave me every single album. I had heard a few tracks like Push the Little Daisies and Voodoo Lady, but the first album that I put in my car and listened to the entire album was The Pod. It was a great place to start because it set my expectations low for the rest of my experience with the band. However, I absolutely love that album to this day and it is one of my favorites.
@@rozbot86wow the pod would have scared most people off. Congratulations, you are not most people. The pod might be my favorite album. But probably not the first album I would show someone if I was trying to evangelicize ween. But some people must get it right away

“I don’t know what this genre is..” Yup. Ween. Yes. You are opening a door you will gladly jump right into. Starting at the back end of their catalog gives a great showing of their awesome trajectory as a one of a kind band, and one of the better bands touring at the moment ( flying out to see their shows in Minneapolis and Chicago this weekend from Toronto) and if you get a chance go watch them live and you’ll see why they are beloved by their fans.

YES weens my favorite band, asked for this on a separate account literally last night. Very excited for this. Quebec is my FAVORITE by them, but I'd recommend the Mollusk or even chocolate & Cheese just slightly more for a first timer. I hope you dive into more of their stuff ^^
Gener's divorce album; turning pain into brilliant art. My favorite from their catalogue. One of their albums that probably won't get mentioned much: Shinola Vol 1. A number of outtakes and orphans, equally as a mazing as everything else they've put out.
Your take on Tried and True, although brief, is one that I never considered before. That's what I really love about this band, their tender heart. A lot of people just consider them to be a novelty group, but if you look you can see a tenderness underlying the music. That's what I really appreciate.
Honestly, I feel like the theme of this album is about mental illness and what it actually means to be happy/sad. In a world where no one wants to be genuine about their emotions, we seek happiness through drugs, shallow romance, and doing all we can to ignore the impending anxiety we feel. This album pokes fun at the absurdity of that through the wacky instrumentation. Meanwhile, it speaks about the harsh reality of the situation through the lyrics, from the perspective of many different characters, which represent different parts of our mind. I could be wrong, but that's how I've always interpreted it.
Yeah Gene Ween was was going through a divorce and struggling with substance abuse disorder. Long time ween fans had been through it with him because he's written about his love life so much with baby b**** and birthday boy.
This is definitely a good place to start with Ween, its much more accessible in comparison. But at the same time they make such sporadic random music that one album doesn't remotely give u the full picture of their sound. A super unique act forsure lol.

Since this is your first record you’ve heard by them I wouldn’t necessarily recommend The Pod, but I’d love to see your reaction to it. Insanely gross and utterly beautiful at the same time.
Doubled over laughing at your reaction to the "I Don't Want It" guitar solo, I totally understood you there. Ween's got it dialed in at all times, and when they want to rip your heart out, they just go ahead and do it.

Thanks brother
One of my all-time favorite albums. Awesome to watch a blind reaction to it.
Believe it or not The Mollusk is an even more fun listen(imo)
Imo their magnum opus but any single Ween album holds so many treasures almost every one was an obsession for a time.
Loved your reaction to "I Don't Want It" lol what a banger
Your reactions are so damn addictive.
Now that I kinda know your taste in music, I recommend you to listen to The Flaming Lips - the soft bulletin, it’s a psychedelic rock masterpiece 😊
loved seeing your reactions and thoughts about one of the best Ween albums :) would love to see you listen to some King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard sometime (probably Nonagon Infinity to start with) wither way youve definitely earned a sub!! ^•^
Absolutely check out the mollusk. It's not quite as emotionally impactful but sonically it's a 10/10. If you can stomach the weirdness and a couple arguably somewhat problematic tracks then I also recommend chocolate and cheese.
tf is so problematic bout c and c
@@vivimos_en_una_sociedad7758 I just like the warn people when an album has a joke track how about a child dying of spinal meningitis, a song called the HIV song, and a few songs with fake accents. I'm not offended by any of it but I know that some people are so I was just giving him a small warning
@@vivimos_en_una_sociedad7758 he should be able to handle it though because he's listened to worse
@@vivimos_en_una_sociedad7758 holy shit I just realized he listened to chocolate and cheese. I think I paid a little less attention and for some reason I wasn't recommended that as repentance I need to set myself on fire and then watch the video
priceless reaction to "So many people in the neighbourhood":
"..... what?"
Dang! I felt just the same with captain, so good. I've been listening to this album over and over for over a month
@32:05 The song The Argus is based off of or at least inspired somewhat by the greek myth of Argus Panoptes (argus the all-seeing)
Rid of Me - PJ Harvey
A Promise - Xiu Xiu
Things We Lost in the Fire - Low
Next please!!
I love your reaction to the solo in transdermal celebration..I've seen many people make that same face when they hear it for the first time..pretty sure I did as well
I don't want it puts into words a feeling I knew but didn't know how to describe until I listened to it. I'm a casual ween fan but didn't pay attention to that one until recently
Bless, literally listening to all my favorite albums, gonna second everyone else here and also request you listen to another Ween album "The Mollusk", less serious but just as eclectic and fantastic.
Matt Stone with the Ween reaction!
ayy transdermal celebration used to be my favourite song of all time, the video for it is so good. also u should listen to the eraser by thom yorke :)
Santana guitar lore
The whole album progresses along this path, this feeling of, the bands trying to act like nothings wrong, but all these breaks keep occurring until the happy blends with the depressed until finally the last three tracks bring down the whole house of cards
Is this your first Ween album? I think The Mollusk is a better start, but Quebec is still an amazing album to start off with for Ween.
Welcome to the tribe my friend
W vid as always. I agree with everyone else here. You definitely gotta do The Mollusk.
Those synths in Back to Basom are thick.
Ween is my favorite artist ever. Versatility is an understatement. Peak
Bro do more ween this was awesome
