      That is the mark of a professional who wants his audience to understand something about his interviewee, and his guest to get points across, and doesn't let his ego get in the way.

    Actually, he often listens to what others have to say, in debate shows, which he is often drawn into he's always polite with other people's points of view. His dress sense is possibly his most powerful asset. His image draws attention and outrage, but when parents confront him, he can always engage them civilly and answer eloquently on behalf of a largely misunderstood subculture.

As for Manson, I think what he said will definitely resonate when he is dead, despite all the shit that happened to him during his career or whatever he did and said, he will always ultimately be an artist. • @indre_7077

    I always thought, like Manson said, that calling yourself an artist at a young age is pretentious... if you paint, create music dance or whatever that dosent make you an artist, "Artist" is a strange subjective word, today it's used regardles of the quality of the "artists" work. Well but Manson is an artwork just being true to himself.

    • @symbolsarenotreality4595
      @symbolsarenotreality4595 Před 6 lety +2

      It all comes down to intention, a true artist could call themself an artist without hesitation or shame whereas a person who just wants people to know they are an artist would bring it up with that intention.
      Food for thought;
      What is the difference between acting and action?

    • @francisgallant1479
      @francisgallant1479 Před 5 lety +1

      That's because being an artist is not something you choose it is who you are it's not a matter of accomplishment but rather a strong pull towards the unknown. My Personal definition for it is being in love with chaos/The desire to conquer it BUT very important with the GREATEST respect for it. Being In love with Chaos is not something you choose it's a straight love for trouble & you're willing to give everything for it, precisely you GOT to give up the idea of any kind of security to be able to embrace it fully since it is by itself everything of uncertainty. I think a really trustworthy factor to identify an artist is this willingness to sacrifice it's own security for that pull. I don't think a sacrifice of that importance can be made except if it is made for pure & simple Love.
      .
      Edit: I did a quick search right after writing this & stumbled across this : books.google.ca/books?id=qQzi_NzxKUgC&pg=PA200&lpg=PA200&dq=willingness+to+sacrifice+security+art&source=bl&ots=BA8OXBo9ap&sig=WiWzoMfneD1umj9IHtQRsNF9dTg&hl=fr&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwiryOSy4azdAhUhzlkKHSs3C7IQ6AEwDHoECAIQAQ#v=onepage&q=willingness%20to%20sacrifice%20security%20art&f=false
      It's only a quick paragraph, might be more articulated than mine I haven't slept for 2 days so my frame of mind is kinda loose loll

    I think this interview can be interpreted as "boring" to some people because in the contrast of Rollin Manson seems to be reverting back the inner child. I noticed that he wanted to grasp his perceptions a bit more than he could in the end and he was completely honest, the reality of the rock star.

    Rollins made it very clear that he was there for the troops, not for the war. The troops don't decide where they go and Rollins has always been anti-Iraq war. Not only that,he was invited by the USO because Rollins was a name that kept popping up when troops requested guests. He even asked the USO if they were sure they wanted him to come because of his opinions. They said it was cool so he went.
    The 'corporate' troops bombing poor people is just a gross simplifcation from a simple mind.

    What he's saying is that historically, governments have been afraid of the power of art to sway the views and perceptions of the public, and so have suppressed them in an effort to minimize the chance of backlash, rebellion, or even indifference from the masses, upon whom governments rely for their power. There is even a term for it in media and political studies: "co-opting" Look at, for example, Thomas Payne's role in catalyzing the American revolution against Britain.
