    Despite being filmed as a "short", I appreciate this being uploaded as a proper video. It makes the viewing experience so much better having access to volume controls and being able to rewind/fast-forward

      Btw you can take the video id part of the short's url and paste it into youtube's normal format to get a normal plsyer to play whatever you want...

      He definitely didn't mean to upload it as a normal video, he just went over the one minute limit, so CZcams kicked it over into the normal video section of his channel, or it was uploaded incorrectly.

    Smarter every Day put a beautiful blue butterfly wing under an electron microscope and were surprised to see it had no colour at all, instead using this method to cancel out all other colours except blue, using ridge lines spaced out at exact distances. Nature operating at incredible tolerances. Great channel, Bill.

    Trimming fractions of a second between words would have made this short enough. It's always such a struggle to get a vid to less than 1 minute, but YT rules are strict. One frame over a minute and it's not a short.

    The Lippmann process!! That was the best, short explanation of it that I've heard! Basically that you fit the interference part in under a minute!
    Something that's surprising to me is that the emulsion Lippmann used was apparently ultra fine and thus had a very high resolution (on the order of microfilms). In fact, this is true of many plate-based photographic techniques. But I'm not sure exactly why.
    Great video!!

    • @engineerguyvideo
      @engineerguyvideo  Před 7 měsíci

      You needed an ultra fine emulsion to create the layers; this was also one of the reasons that it needed so much light (if I recall correctly)

    Bill, who invented the modern shopping cart? "Stack them up" is one thing, but who made the jump to "fold them up inside of themselves so they can stack horizontally?" It's been around for as long as I've been alive, and yet it's such a weird idea, and yet it works

    Can I request a topic, i have an old torch that no longer clicks on/off, i have dismantled it and there is two cream plastic peices that fit together, reminds me of a biro but without the long shaft.
    3 different size springs and another long, narrow spring attached to a disc that has a protrusion sticking out the other end of the disc. The long narrow spring is the part that touches the battery, the cream 'pen like' parts are at the opposite end that is covered with the soft rubber that is pushed to operate the torch.
    I can't figure out how the springs alow the torch to click on and of. Any help from you or yout team of subscribers would be greatly received 🔦🔦
