  • Hello friends,
I am Deborah Adhikari (Urmila) from Nepal. Over the past few years, I have developed a keen interest in urban organic rooftop gardening and farming. Through this site, I would like to welcome to KAUSHI RANI GARDEN, your ultimate destination for all things related to urban rooftop organic farming! I am thrilled to share my skills, knowledge, tips, and inspiration with all of you who love to have fresh vegetables right at your kitchen's doorstep. My passion for organic farming and sustainable living has driven me to create a space where we can all learn and grow together.
    Thanks!
    GROWING OF GREEN CHILLI
    Climate and Soil Requirements
Climate: Green chilli (Capsicum annuum) thrives in warm, humid conditions with temperatures between 18°C to 30°C (64°F to 86°F).
Soil: Well-drained loamy or sandy loam soil with a pH range of 6.0 to 6.8 is ideal. Ensure the soil is rich in organic matter.
    Planting
Seeds: Start seeds indoors 8-10 weeks before the last frost date. Plant seeds 1/4 inch deep in seed-starting mix.
Transplanting: Transplant seedlings outdoors when they are 6-8 weeks old and all danger of frost has passed. Space plants 18-24 inches apart in rows 24-36 inches apart.
    Care
Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Water deeply and less frequently to encourage deep root growth.
Fertilizing: Apply a balanced fertilizer (10-10-10) at planting time. Side-dress with additional nitrogen fertilizer after the first fruit set.
Mulching: Use organic mulch to retain moisture and control weeds.
Staking: Provide support to the plants with stakes or cages, especially in windy areas.
    Pests and Diseases
Common Pests: Aphids, whiteflies, and spider mites. Use insecticidal soap or neem oil to control infestations.
Diseases: Watch out for fungal diseases like powdery mildew and bacterial leaf spot. Ensure good air circulation and avoid overhead watering to prevent these issues.
    Benefits of Green Chilli
    Nutritional Benefits
Vitamins: High in vitamins A, C, and K. Vitamin C boosts the immune system, while vitamin A supports vision and skin health.
Minerals: Contains potassium, which helps maintain proper heart function, and iron, essential for red blood cell production.
Antioxidants: Rich in antioxidants like capsaicin, which has anti-inflammatory properties.
    Health Benefits
Pain Relief: Capsaicin in green chillies is known to relieve pain by blocking pain signals to the brain.
Metabolism Boost: Capsaicin can increase metabolic rate and promote fat burning, aiding in weight management.
Digestive Health: Stimulates the digestive tract, increasing digestive juices and combating indigestion.
Heart Health: May help lower blood pressure and cholesterol levels, reducing the risk of heart disease.
    Culinary Uses
Flavor Enhancer: Adds heat and flavor to dishes like curries, sauces, and salsas.
Versatile Ingredient: Can be used fresh, dried, or powdered. Green chillies can also be pickled or fermented.
Preservation: Freezes well for long-term storage, retaining its flavor and heat.
Growing green chillies can be a rewarding experience, offering both culinary and health benefits. Whether you're using them to spice up your meals or to boost your health, green chillies are a versatile and beneficial addition to any garden and diet.
