I think River knew all along that the Doctor didn't know her, she said she knew that one day this day would come and it would break her heart, she was searching for a sign that the Doctor knew her to protect her heart, she couldn't accept it, she was in denial, which makes her first (technically technically last story alive) even more sad.

Thomas Derry after River realizes she’s gotten the Doctor at a point when he hasn’t met her yet, she explains that the message she sent to his psychic paper “went wrong” and she got a much earlier version of him than she expected. My feeling is that she was expecting Eleven, but that she’s met Ten once or twice (post-Library for him), so she tries to ring some bells for him with entries from her diary of his “early days” with her, but alas, she finds that it’s too early for him and the day she’s dreaded most has arrived.

    • @granvillimus

@@kellymoore7310 It's a plot hole. River asked 10 if they had done the Byzantium yet (which was already early for him, their first kiss from the Doctor's perspective). Indicating she's considering the possibility he's a future version of the Doctor. The problem is that she also mentioned this must be "early days" for him (they were a married during 11's life). So River seemed to realize right away that 10 was actually a past version. This makes the Byzantium question a huge plot hole given that she did that with 11.
You can also consider the fact that the 10th Doctor clearly has no idea who River is when she arrives at the Library (he gets angry at her and her expedition and demands they leave, also asking in disgust if they're archeologists). She has to actually introduce herself by name and handshake. River has no reason to be asking questions about what events they've done after this. So even just within the context of that episode, there are huge plotholes...

    • @mjm3091
      @mjm3091 Před 4 lety +1

These werent paradoxes, though. Rose pretty much not only changed her own past, to the point it probably wouldnt allow her to travel with Doctor, but she also interfered with her baby self. Which was irrational, but not actual paradox - it still lured Reapers, but didn't really cause any further damage.
Its totally different phenomena from fixed points being rewritten, which pretty much unfolds web of time that Time Lords created, which brings world back to its primal state, where time and physical laws were different and/or didn't work at all, allowing magic to exist.
On top of that in Water of Mars fixed point didn't got rewritten, what got rewritten was everything around it. First Doctor came to the base, then he saved some of crew members. Fixed point was that the martian base is blown up, and Adelaide is considered a hero after her death. She probably still could live longer, but her decision to commit suicide resolved that plot hole, too.
Its like in Wedding of River Song. The original event may have looked certain way, but fixed point may not be exactly the thing you would expect. Considering Doctor knows what is a fixed point - everytime he meets one, we can assume that either has some intuition to it or Tardis may have some connections to Gallifreyan database where all history is written down. And if those are written by living beings, then some sort of error can be done.
In Wedding the fixed point was that River supposedly kills Doctor and is send to prison. Which further impacts her own life and other people's lifes. But fixed point wasnt that Doctor actually dies.
Also in the Day of the Doctor they all were on Gallifrey, which has some different rules when it comes to time and space, as it is in the centre of the web of time.
But Doctor also didn't really change his past. He locked Gallifrey away, being the only person who believed that he destroyed it, which then spread further. And considering that Time Lords still have different biology than humans (dead body of Doctor became a timevortex of all his past, that doesnt happen to humans even if they are time-travelers), them touching themselves isn't a problem on itself. Cause one - they created time, two - they will forget stuff due to mixed timelines, thus paradox almost never really happens.

It would certianly help explain why one the first places he visits in the series is Skaro, and why he is so keen to get a closer look at the city, to learn more about the Daleks. "Why did River Song think the 10th Docotr would know her?"
In the episode, the Doctor was brought to the library because of a message he got on his psychic paper, and that message was sent by River. Because of that, she knew that the Doctor would at least be there. However, the message arrived too early, so she couldn't have known it was a Doctor who didn't know her yet. She didn't realize until she was able to see his eyes up close to know how young he was, which only happened during the diary swap because she had just arrived in the library, met the Doctor before Lux came in demanding to know what was going on, then she had to delegate to the team.
DONNA: So, We weren't just in the neighbourhood
DOCTOR: Yeah, I kind of, sort of lied a bit. I got a message on the psychic paper.
    RIVER: Thanks.
    DOCTOR: For what?
RIVER: The usual. For coming when I call.
    DOCTOR: Oh, that was you?
RIVER: You're doing a very good job, acting like you don't know me. I'm assuming there's a reason.
RIVER: No, but you are. Your eyes. You're younger than I've ever seen you.
RIVER: He hasn't met me yet. I sent him a message, but it went wrong. It arrived too early. This is the Doctor in the days before he knew me. And he looks at me, he looks right through me and it shouldn't kill me, but it does.

I think river didn’t know that ten didn’t know her because she doesn’t know exactly when the last time they meet is. So possibly in her mind she thought she might eventually meet the doctors previous incarnations (before 10). So that’s why she was so shocked when she found out that he didn’t know her.
She was possibly even more confused because he’s very late into his time-stream; close to being 11. So this would’ve confirmed to her that she’s never going to see him before this time in his time stream.

    • @Xylarxcode
      @Xylarxcode Před 4 lety +2

There are various short stories, audio books and comic books, whose canon are admittedly very questionable, where River meets previous incarnations of the Doctor, having met every one of them from the first to the eleventh at least once. She didn't recognize Twelve because he was the first incarnation of a new regeneration cycle, so presumably she has never met any incarnation beyond the Twelfth either. She has also forcibly removed herself from the Doctor's memory every time she ran into him before he was supposed to know about her, to avoid having the Doctor learn something about his own future that he isn't meant to know yet, meaning that only the Tenth, Eleventh and Twelfth incarnations will be able to remember her. Again, all this comes from sources that may not be considered canon, so it's important to keep that in mind too.

In fact the Doctor was even willing to die to avoid messing with a fixed point until he found a way to survive without altering it. The Doctor probably knows when & where Amy & Rory are, but won't risk visiting them unless the Doctor is 100% sure there will be no consequences. 2nd the library wasn't the 1st time River met the 10th Doctor. When the Amy 1st meets River we know its the 1st time the 11th Doctor meets River since at that time Amy had been traveling with the 11th Doctor since he regenerated from the 10th, However the 11th indicated that he already had several adventures with River

Correct me if I'm wrong, but he didn't connect the wires (which would have killed the entire species) and thus, the Daleks were created and then they somehow found out that the Time Lords ordered the Doctor to eradicate the Dalek threat before it began. Three Points...
    1. River lost track of the Doctors Timeline because of two things.
First, at this point of her Timeline, she is over 200years (linear time) old.
Second, She ´d meet all of the Doctors during her BF Storys, sometimes the Doctor kept his memories but most time he was forced to forget.
So its possible that she was thinking, she did all the stuff, in her diary, (with the 10th Doctor) yet and he was allowed to remember.
    2. Jenny missed the 10th Doctor, by seconds, at the end of her first series...she did not die...not yet...so maybe we will see a reunion someday.
    3. The Time-War was started in classic Who "Genesis of the Daleks" when the 4th Doctor was sent back to Skaro, to kill the Daleks, but couldnt do it.
The Daleks learned from this Moment, that the Timelords had seen into the future and tried to alter it, by killing the Daleks.
So from their point of view, they are the "ultimate" in the universe and the Timelords wanted to change that. Like every War, someday it got total and went bigger and bigger.
To all who say, my arguments are not canon because its Big Finish...since Night of the Doctor, all BF Audios are caonon, because by letting the 8th Doctor remember his "Audio only" companions in a TV episode, Moffat canonised all the audios.

Danny was in a childrens home the first time he meets the Doctor, and could have possibly been a twin, but had the misfortune of being taken away due to his parents not being able to cope with two. They kept his identical twin, who could have gone on to have kids with a relative of Clara, perhaps a cousin or something, someone we haven't met yet, who was a time traveller as Orson explained. This would explain his connection to Clara, and why he looked a lot like Danny.

    8. Currently unknown, but Jenny has appeared on the Big Finish audios and met with the 5th Doctor (played by her actress' actual father). Also Moffat was the one who begged Russell T Davies to resurrect her (apparently), but RTD was the one who provided the moon explanation

    3. Given how many adventures with other Doctors have been implied by the show and its spinoffs, it can probably be assumed that River has run into a later version of 10 who recognised her at some point (and that the original plan for River still had David Tennant in mind as the current Doctor).
    2. See 6
    1. Russell T Davies stated that the inciting incident of the Time War was the event of Genesis of the Daleks - in which they saw a future where they had conquered the universe and hired The Doctor to prevent their creation. Once the Daleks had become aware of this fact, they declared war on them. In fact, going further into the Classic series, you can see more animousity grow between the 2 races - between the Daleks creating duplicates of The Doctor and his companions to assassinate the Time Lord High Council in Resurrection of the Daleks, to the Daleks attemptig to use an ancient Time Lord weapon to destroy Gallifrey in Remembrance of the Daleks.

River doesn’t know the order of the doctor’s faces.
The reapers were killed by the doctor after Father’s Day.

How The Doctor and Clara escaped was that they could leave easily.

Of course she knows the order! She's got a spotter's guide! (I wonder if Clara wrote it? After her trip into D's timeline, she would be an expert.) I don't understand how that's supposed to be a problem, though. We never see River with Tenet except in that show but that doesn't mean they never met.
WHEN did the Doctor kill them?? The Reapers pretty much have to exist outside of time.
I think of Genesis of the Daleks was the start of the Time War in the show but asking when it started is a very weird question. There's a lot of time travel involved. Genesis starts with the Doctor being yanked back in time, but we've got no idea when the Time Lords decided to do that. Was it in the far future? Was it just a century or so after Genesis of the Daleks? We've got no idea.

The reapers were killed off in the expanded media (I think it was the 4 doctors: 10,11,12 and war).
There’s a hint that the 7 knows about a war going on in Galifrey. But not sure if it is true that the time war starts after the dalek civil war.

The Time War was initiated far further back than that. The Time Lords sending The Doctor's fourth incarnation back in time to prevent their creation, is now seen as the 'first shot' in that conflict. Understandably, the Daleks resented this action all through their history, and answers why they have tried to destroy The Time Lords, and The Doctor in particular. It has also been surmised that the Daleks had abandoned Skaro before The Doctor's seventh incarnation destroyed it with 'The Hand Of Omega', and had colonised another planet in their local system, which, with typical Dalek imagination, they called 'Skaro II'. This was done to let The Doctor think he'd wiped them out, but they were well established on their new planet, which is presumably the one seen at the start of the 1996 movie that introduced Paul McGann's brilliant eighth incarnation of The Doctor.

Remember though that the full name of 'the Time War' referred to throughout the post 2005 era is just short for "The Last Great Time War". We know from the short 'Night of the Doctor' that up to the end of his 8th incarnation the Doctor insisted that he would "have no part in" and that whilst he offers "help where [he] can [he] will not fight" in that particular war. We also know that from the 1996 TV Movie that there was some sort of treaty or other peaceful agreement in place between the Daleks and Time Lords by the end of 7th's life; that is necessary to account for the Masters 'execution' (as opposed to just being exterminated on the spot) and the Doctor being permitted to (attempt to) return his remains to Galifrey.
I completely agree the 7th Doctor is definitely doing some very war-y things in 'Rememberance of the Daleks', but the simplest resolution is that what we're seeing in 'Rememberance' is a somehow separate conflict. I would say 'earlier' but I can't quite wrap my head around how the concept of 'earlier' applies to time wars.

The Time War was started in "Genesis of the Daleks" when a Time Lord diverted the Fourth Doctor and recruited him for a mission to retcon the Daleks into nonexistence. After he failed, the Daleks' history was still altered, and they revived Davros, whose stated goal was to wipe out the Time Lords, in "Destiny of the Daleks". By "Remembrance of the Daleks" the Seventh Doctor managed to destroy the planet Skaro. But it came back in "The Movie", suggesting serious alteration of time; and by the end of the Eighth Doctor's run, the war was in full swing (see "Night of the Doctor").
