    Amhrán na gCupán
    Laoibhse Ní Nualláin agus co.
600 rannpháirtithe idir scolairí agus foireann
Curiarracht dhomhanda - go bhfios dúinn
    Liricí:
Tá an ticéad a'am don bhealach fada
    Dhá bhuidéal uisce don turas
Is ba bhreá liom cara a bheith in éindí liom
Mé ag fágáil amárach, mbeidh tú liom?
    Nuair 'tá mé imithe
    Nuair 'tá mé imithe
Aireoidh tú uait mé 's gan mé ann
Aireoidh tú uait mé 's mo aoibh
    Aireoidh tú uait mé 'chuile
    thaobh
Ó, aireoidh tú uait mé 's gan mé ann
Tá an ticéad 'am don bhealach fada
Tá an saol mór ag fanacht liom
Measc na sléibhte, taobh na habhann
Ait a bhíonn an t-aer breá úr
Beidh sé i bhfad níos deiseleat a stóir
    Nuair 'tá mé imithe
    Nuair 'tá mé imithe
Aireoidh tú uait mé 's gan mé ann
Aireoidh tú uait mé 's me ag caint
Aireoidh tú uait mé 's mé ag seinnt
Ó, aireoidh tú uait mé 's gan mé ann

I remember growing up and it was said Gaelic was a dead language, forgotten and swallowed by time. It was for at one time but here is a group of young people speaking with the tongue of their ancestors refusing to let it die. It was absolutely beautiful! In Nova Scotia in Canada Gaelic is also seeing a resurgence. Some street signs and place names are put in English and Gaelic and the government is investing money into programs promoting the language. I hope it continues!

Great to see this! I can't believe the comments about the pronunciation. No wonder the language is dying. My family were native speakers from the Gaeltacht and I speak very bad Gaeilge with a Lancashire accent. But I'll sing and speak it as much as possible and love to hear others doing the same. Keep up the good work. Maith shibh!

    • @blindknitter
      @blindknitter Před 9 lety +14

Maria Boyle Níl an teanga marbh, ach tuigim cad tá tú ag rá. Fad a bhí mé i mo leanbh bhí cainte agus meon réasún an linbh agum. Okay, ceart. Ghoid mé é! (Is é an Bíobla iontach.) Ach, nuair a bhí mé mo leanbh (nó páiste) bhi cónaí orm i Lancaster. Ach, déanaim iarracht Gaeilge a labhairt gach lá. Níl an teanga marbh ar chor ar bith.
Having said all of which, you are right, elitists who complain about accent really put people off learning. My son is the second generation of his family to be born abroad - it's not nice for him to speak better Irish than I do, and then have people complain that his accent is off. The worst thing is that half the people complaining don't even speak Irish as well as he does. As for me, I know I'm making grammatical mistakes, and I cannot spell, and I've got an English accent. (In fact a Lancaster accent, so you are not alone in the Lancastrian Gaeilge. Or Lancashiran. Is that even a word? It should be. And... see? Even in English language is not always our best friend.) But at least I use Irish to communicate, for all my imperfections. That is what language is for.
So yes, it's great to see videos like this, and to know that Irish language teaching has improved massively. (Check out the other Irish covers of popular songs - Pompeii is one of my favourites.)
Oh - and also, great to hear that your family came from the Gaeltacht, and that you are still proud of, and using the language. Tá áthas orm a chloisteáil é! Is é sin iontatach!

It's wonderful! When my girls were younger, they would play the cups game with other kids while waiting for their turns at swim meets. It's great to hear it in Gaelic and to see all those kids having a great time!

I'm not Irish by nationality, but I'm Irish by race and every time I hear Gaelige sung it brings a tear to my eye. This song is truly beautiful, we need to keep our mother tongue alive. Gods bless you all.

I was going through CZcams looking for something to watch. I saw the original song, wasn't all that interested in watching it again. Then I see this song a couple videos down. I watched this once, then went and watched the one in English and came back to this one and wrote this. Hell of a coincidence

Irish is NOT a dead language. There are still native speakers and the language has more speakers now than it has had in a very long time.

Dont listen to the people who say it's dead. It's not. You can learn it on Duolingo

Why are you not singing Gaelic in the British music charts....and internationally in fact!
    What about Eurovision?
I'm English and think Irish is such a beautiful language! I am very happy to see young people singing it. Irish is cool and you should promote it!

We are doing the cup song with this song in an assembly on my last day of school. This is a good song because our teachers are going to miss us (Some not that much cause we are a crazy class) when we move to third grade into upper elementary! So this song is great! and our teacher told us we might know the song before we have to learn it! I love this video!

There used to be a sign on the door as you entered that hall that said "Tir gan teanga, Tir gan anam" (a country without language has no soul) Funny how that stuck with me over almost 30 odd years later. I had so much fun at Lurgan and music was always a big part of your time there. Sean Ban Breathnach used to DJ the discos, he lived close by as did the founder Pol O'Foighill whose son was the head of the school.
