    When I was in the airforce, none of our jets had colors like this on them.
    They are aluminium, so they can't rust.
    They only go on runways or dry roads, so there can't be dirt on them.
    Any dust gets blown off during flight. Maybe some dust remains on the carriage in deeper spots.
    Mostly they were just sun bleached. They get a lot of sun radiation on them.
    There might have been a little paint chipped in wear areas, but I don't remember seeing it.
    Could have been some marks from water maybe, but I think that mostly blows right off too.
    The older the jet the more they looked like they got left out in the sun for too long, that's about it.
    Plus some burning on the exhaust.

    I wish you had shown a "before" and "after" shot of the wing, after it had dried. Your video does a good job of showing how to use the pencils, but not how the results look upon drying.

    Hi! Great video! Did you apply a varnish before using the pencils?

    Hmmm,
    Im wondering what colors to use on a F-14 Tomcat for Top Gun Maverick version?
    When the water application dries, do you have to seal it with a clear coat?
    Lastly, is it best to apply onto matt surface before or after a clear coat?

      Hi there!
      The colours used are (AK11888) Light Ghost Grey FS 36375 and (AK11887) Dark Ghost Grey FS 36320. It's always best to add a Gloss coat (GN H030)on first before any decal application, followed by another Gloss coat to seal in the decals. It's then followed by a Flat coat (GN H020) to bring the model down to a more realistic appearance.
      We hope that helps!

    Great video and demonstration! I’ve just tried this over MIG lucky varnish ultra matt and the brush has lifted the varnish? Can anyone confirm that this should me done over a lacquer clear coat?

      Hello friend. Ive tried lucky varnish and had the same results. All the time, Ive heard somewhere that lucky is to be applied at the end and even so much as a water drop hits the surface it is ruined. Contacted various MIG threads with no answer. Throw it in the bin and find another.

    how long does it takes to dry and not to over blend the first color?

    • @MetroHobbiesAus
      @MetroHobbiesAus  Před 3 lety +1

      Howdy Sergio! The drying process of the pencil should take as long as the water drying time. You should be able to layer new colours with more distinction after this drying period, however a realistic weathering effect is achieved on an already wet surface. Hope this helps!

    When applying water, is this regular tap water or 'wet' water?

    • @MetroHobbiesAus
      @MetroHobbiesAus  Před 2 lety

      Hi there, regular tap water should do the job perfectly!

    Did you do this over a matt or gloss surface?

    • @MetroHobbiesAus
      @MetroHobbiesAus  Před 2 lety +1

      Hi there, this is a matte surface. Although they will work on both matte and gloss we've found that the results are a little better on a matte surface.
      We hope that helps!

    Can do this with any watercolor pencil.

    • @MetroHobbiesAus
      @MetroHobbiesAus  Před rokem

      Hi Per, Technically yes! However with handling a standard watercolour pencil will wash away. The beauty of something like the AK interactive pencils is they have made from a semi-grease paint (oil) and therefore can withstand being handled.
