I am Bulgarian and I'm happy you enjoyed your stay here. Glad that you enjoyed Varna as well. Varna is my favorite city here, although I am not from Varna myself. If you visit us again, plan a bit longer stay in Varna, there is so much more to see in the city and arround. The people from Varna (or varnentsi in Bulgarian) are quite friendly and respect their architectural heritage. If you liked banitsa, then there is quite the range of types of banitsa you can try, not only the one with cheese, but there is also one with pumpkin (a sweet one), one with spinach. There could be others. A sweet banitsa like cake is the baklava, I defo recomend it.
@@SarahandMarek it's my ancient city, and it's beautiful! I just have to recommend it, here is the oldest building with 2 floors in the world, also lots of ancient Greek and Roman relics, fortresses and mosaics .... With a decent night life, lots of bars and clubs, young people all around..... You will enjoy it, I'm sure! You're welcome anytime you decide, shoot me a message if you plan to come, I'll help you out with accomodations, etc...... It's pretty expensive here in comparison with the rest of Bulgaria, but I have a few friends in the hotel industry and I'll help you out! Anyways, I'm glad someone from abroad likes Bulgaria and Bulgarians..... We're not exactly the most popular kid around the block ... Наздраве 🍻
Boza is an acquired taste. Like ... rooibos tea in South Africa. It took me something like 5 years before I dared to try my second cup :-) But then slowly but surely I acquired the taste.
I'm glad that you made a travel to my home city and you liked it! :) Although, it would be better to visit it in summer time when it's very green and colorful. Too bad you couldn't visit the main attractions in Varna :( As a person, who is traveling all over the world, I would never replace my home city.
Hi Victor! Thanks for watching, I must say that's a very specific description 😅 I wouldn't say our experience was the same but apparently the shop bought Boza (like the one we had in the video) isn't the same as the real thing
Olny 3 destinations in the nicest country of the Balkans? Why? Black sea in Bulgaria has that, what the Georgian coast doesn´t have. Sand beaches. Everywhere. No one like Boza, but every bulgarian like boza. I like very much. It is great.
We wished we could have spent more time in Bulgaria! 😍🇧🇬 Unfortunately we were running out of time and wanted to visit a few other countries before flying home to South Africa 🙌🏼🇿🇦 Boza is unlike anything I have ever tasted before 😅 it was a very interesting drink to taste but I cannot say I liked it very much
@@SarahandMarek I am Bulgarian, for me boza have light cacao taste. But it is true, if you drinking this since a childhood, you like that. If you at first with 25 or more, ist not for you. Man, everybody hates boza, even between bulgarians it's pretty 50/50 :D:D:D Usually I would recommend you drink that while eating Banitsa, which is a pastry type breakfast with bulgarian cheese in it. Whenever I am with someone and we're getting such breakfasts most people are like " wtf is wrong with you " when I go for the boza, lmao :D Idk, I just love it.
I must admit I have never tasted anything like boza and I really wasn't a fan 😅 but we did taste Banitsa and it was INCREDIBLE! 🤤 Boza must be an acquired taste 😉
@@SarahandMarek It was cool, just different. And it was pretty hot... my son skated Sofia NDK and then Varna, so we were all over the place. He really enjoyed sk8ing there. Anyone, non Bulgarian, who drinks boza is extremely brave in my book. It is totally an acquired taste. And indeed it is better with banitsa. It is a great probiotic. It is great on a warm day. Varna bus station is a total disaster in general. Baked pumpkin is better eaten warm but you will probably not find it like that in a restaurant
I'm happy that we tasted boza but I wouldn't rush to have it again 😅 Banitsa is incredibly delicious, we tasted that in Sofia and loved it! I would definitely try baked pumpkin again if it were warm 😊 Thank you for watching!
@@SarahandMarek Well do not worry. I have met only one foreigner in my life that likes boza. The problem is also what they sell, like the one you drank, is not such great quality and they use artificial sweeteners so that compounds the problem. Real boza ferments quickly and has a slightly tangy taste and a faint traces of alcohol due to the fermentation. It is actually a very healthy drink and like everything healthy usually does not taste great, if you are not used it. Banitsa is tasty but due to the oil is hardly something to eat every day and in fact most Bulgarians do not eat everyday. Glad you enjoyed your time in Bulgaria.

Traveling by train looks like such a fantastic experience :)
Gotta say, overnight trains are our favourite way of getting around 😁🚞
Sure! If you like dirt! If you see what train from last century 70's got for a toilet...The smell is something you should try to endure!

Come to Stara Zagora next time, you will enjoy it 🍻
