    The couple micro chips I have come across on my full convex blades, were easily repaired with 600 grit sand paper on my strop. Then stropped with 16 micron (1k grit) emulsion.

      Yeah, I know I'm picky 😃, and sandpaper sharpening is a dream with 3V. I just gotta do it - if nothing it's a testament how much I love to use and handle this model that I went 2 years without sharpening. BTW, I foresee a candle wax sheath forming in my future 😉. 👊

    dang son, you got some high end knives, when I saw the dbf knife I knew you were a knife guy... where's the wood lore? haha jk Great vid!

      Thanks! And especially so for letting me know! As for a Ray Mears...nope-don't have one of those 😀. I've been following those DBK boys since back when Maarten added in Mikkie. So I had to sport for that one. Stay tuned for the Bark River Trakker later this year. ✌️

      Most welcome! Thanks for stropping by to let me know. I love ESEE knives (I have the Izula, Xancudo, and ESEE 6)...probably a better budget option. ✌

    $300+ for a chippy blade NO WAY id send that crap back and have it replaced.
    3V chipping? Very odd ...
    I have wanted a BRK bushcrafter but I aint taking the chance . Once i do get another premium knife im going with LT Wright.

    • @MitchBollig

      I can safely report my Bushcrafter 2 after two hefty uses did *not* suffer the same fate as my Bravo 1. It doesn't excuse this one though - I've had several viewers express that sometimes BRK just gets a bit aggressive in the grind and that after a sharpening or 2 I will get past a burnt edge. When I sharpen it I will do a retest and post on my channel - I've just been too busy at present. That said, you can never go wrong with an LT Wright - it was my second best knife overall in 2023's knife of the year.✌️

    Man I would have sent that back. See they did what most knife manufacturers do. Get big, then get cheap. They should replace that knife completely free of charge.

    • @MitchBollig
      @MitchBollig  Před 2 měsíci +1

      I was genuinely tempted after talking with @chuck_nunface, who used their support services to even up the grind on his Bravo 1 (full size). He strongly suggested to send back for them to at least even up the grind. I will say BRK's consistency seems to lack - they nailed every part of my Bushcrafter II, but I've seen a lot of other channels with various inconsistencies on their quality assurance. Thanks for stropping by to exercise your 1st amendment rights! 👊✌

    I don't trust BRK. Look at their factory, their whole process is a complete mess and they mix up steels. 3V shouldn't chip like that so I'm willing to bet you got an A2 knife mislabeled. It might also be that the steel was overheated when grinding and lost its heat treat but for $400 here in Canada I don't want to take a gamble on my knives. They are beautiful knives but I think BRK has just lost its touch. They're rushing to produce as many blades as possible and took a hit on quality

    • @MitchBollig
      @MitchBollig  Před 7 měsíci +2

      You know, your points are strong...I've definitely had a mixed bag with my BRK's. This Bravo 1 LT and my Trakker are sub-par for the price. As for the chipping I've had many folks tell me BRK is too aggressive with their belt sanding, and that I may need to sharpen 2 or 3 times to get to the "good/non-burned" 3V - that's not appreciated for a $300 knife. Just wait for my Trakker review in 2024 - it's not going to be glamourous. As for my Bushcrafter and Essential 2, they are both excellent in grind and heat treat. Thanks for stropping in to check it out. For these prices (or even less, really), I'd choose an LT Wright every time. 🤜🤛✌

      Its such a damn shame though. They used to be one of the best and their knives are beautiful. Just wish it wasn't a gamble every time you buy one. Great vid btw I like your channel @@MitchBollig

      Some of them are fantastic knives don’t get me wrong. There’s a reason lots of people love them. I have a 2024 production mini aurora and its an awesome blade. I’d advise to stay away from the pandemic era (2020-2022) production runs and you should be good. Chances are you’ll receive a good knife that will last you a lifetime 👍🏼

      @@Jasonfisherman81Don’t worry about it, Bark Rivers have the best handles and the best grinds money can buy. A tiny little blemish here or there is no big deal on a hand made knife.

    BRK messes up. high price and very poor workmanship. The most important thing is not quality, it is quantity. a pity, a pity

    • @MitchBollig
      @MitchBollig  Před 9 měsíci +1

      Well I'm batting 66%...my other 2 BRKs grinds are perfect. That said, I have full confidence I could engage their service to correctify this, but in actual use the asymmetrical grind didn't affect performance. And I'll sharpen 'er up to get that belt-induced burnt edge off...it was just a bit of a pity like you said...

      @@MitchBollig With mine over 30 BRK, about 80% are ok. perfect only a few. They don't have to be either. I'm worried about the name BRK. when the 'old' fans 'die out', new ones are difficult to find. because the reputation is getting worse and worse.

    • @drunknnirish
      @drunknnirish Před 9 měsíci +2

      @@renexwing1546 They are earning that bad reputation. For the price they charge there is no reason what so ever some of the stuff that hits the market should make it out of the factory.
