  • This is a MAN SU 220 built by Avtomontaža in 1981. Originally, it was owned by Libertas Dubrovnik, firstly as fleet number 51 and then as number 19 from 1996. It operated on line traffic in Dubrovnik regularly until 2020 and occasionally until 2021. In December 2021, it was bought by a bus driver from Split.
More photos of the bus can be found here: www.autobusi.o...
MAN SU 220 buses were only built by Avtomontaža. Around 255 examples were made. In essence, it is a shortened MAN SG 220, with an underfloor engine (SU = Standard Unterflur). Some modifications were made on the bus. It was refurbished in 2007 in Mostar. The original upholstered seats were exchanged for seats from a Turkish-built MAN SL. The engine was changed twice. The steering wheel and wheel rims are also not original.
However, the bus is still very enjoyable as an oldtimer and remembrance of bus time past. Here's hoping that it continues to drive for many years!

There is still an SG 220 in New Zealand running in technical service on school runs, not public service anymore.

Is the bus still in use or could it be rented?

This engine is old but you can hear its not original. Is the gearbox original? I do recognise the whine in first gear. Brings back beautifull memorys. We had these in Ljubljana till may 2016. They were bundles of joy to ride on and to hear from 3 blocks away.

The engine is not original, that's true, the sound is different. It is also a MAN, but I am not sure which, maybe from a Gräf. The gearbox should be original, a ZF.

P.S. The last one from Ljubljana was only scrapped a few months ago, unfortunately and stupidly.

An Ex LPP327 SG220 was preserved by the Slovenian Technical Museum back in 2016.
