Timmy, Timmy, Timmy... There's zero hope of getting your stepsister out the dryer on this one...
This is golden 😂😂😂
Protip: You don't _need_ to get her out of there, really. 👌
LOL'd.
Buying in bulk and paying ~$150 a box? What a crummy LGS to dump this on a customer by saying it’s OOP. Timmy prolly didn’t have a gun to his head tho…
Yeah, that's just disgusting, and one LGS that really doesn't deserve any support.
Yeah I assume the LGS "convincing him" is more just deflection on his own stupid idea. Maybe somebody there mentioned it MIGHT happen and he latched on but I find it hard to believe someone sat there to convince him to max out a credit card on brand new boxes. And even if they did he's still an idiot for going along with it
Anyways hey guys I hear there's gonna be some strixhaven boxes on massive sale In the coming months
what! I gotta get in on this! Hold on lemme grab my credit card, send me a pm!
I'm already readying my credit cards as we speak
Man Rudy finally brought up my stepsisters black skateboard she uses to get to Taco Bell on a Friday morning at 7:30 PM
You are beyond woke, it’s actually activating my almonds
he is in the bushes watching
This channel is a college course to me. I call it Timmy 101
I can't believe this is real, if it is how many other Timmy's out there getting nuked?
There are millions on millions of timmys out there
A lot man, a lot
Like 95% of them bro. Lol
Market price of a case of Strix draft boxes is $633. Basically the guy overpaid by 50%. Nice work, LGS!
What kind of homework did this guy do?
Many commenters think this is fake and I’m leaning toward agreeing with them
That LGS rekt the fuck out of him. Now the credit company is going to finish his wallet off. Lol
@@azendantforces1897 even if it is fake it is fairly representative of what’s going on lately
It's not fake people get fucked every day. Don't play with the big boys if you can't handle the game
So guy got taken advantage of by his lgs. Lol his LGS offloaded their entire stock at a premium.
This is 100% fake.
This is 100% possibly likely.
@@em3sis so how do you know that 100%?
@@dbptwg okay. Let me spell this out.
I'm a fan of Rudy. I watch a lot of his videos, but this one misses the mark. We all know I can't know 100% that this is fake but I will lay out the reasons why there is an incredibly high probability that this is fake and/or insanely exaggerated.
1. He doesn't ever give this person a name like he does for all of his other patron letters, collection letters, or box openings.
2. He starts with "bullet points of the story" and then begins to read sentences.
3. His overall body language and reaction to the events is dulled in comparison to his other reactions videos, very rushed. "Oh I know where this is going.." skipping over details he normally emphasizes.
Again, I'm a fan and generally enjoy his takes, but this reeks of content drought.
Gotta diversify the cardboard empire. No set is worth leveraging on a credit card. Ever.
Truth! Most expensive capital out there.
This is one of those honest sit down videos he does, the advice is straightforward and important. I dabble in MTG finance, but mostly I love buying collections locally then seeing what I get and usually offloading the ones I don't want (I always keep more than I should)
Two days ago I found a maybe 2k-3k card collection, mostly 2018 and forward, guy posted some of the myrhics etc and I saw SOME value there but was willing to dive in and roll the dice. He said make an offer, I offered $100, he took it quickly, saying two other guys offered $25 and said "that's all it's worth" when I was confident worst case scenario I could buylist most of it for at least $50-75, but expected more.
Met up, bought the cards, took them home and scanned in just the rares and mythics and got just shy of $600 TCG Market. Another $75 or so in Commons/uncommons. To the victor goes the spoils. Never know what you're going to get. The Timmy who only wanted to offer $25 for that collection was greedy, and I bet the same guy will go out and spend a couple hundred a month on sealed boxes he'll rip open immediately and ends up walking away with half that in value
Thanks Rudy for the heads up!
Great video pal, as always. Such a laugh - 13:15 - Rudy quote of the day : )
Funny enough I just got my case of Strixhaven from you Rudy in the mail. Glad I waited.
Thx Rudy. The last couple mins of the vid stuck out to me.
YOU HAVE DISCOVERED THE KING OF TIMMIES!
When the sales start dipping there's always "supplies problems". Same thing at release.
I’m a sports card guy that watches all of your content because it’s so insightful. You’re 100000% spot on about everyone’s brains being re-wired to expect outrageous returns. I find myself doing it on an eBay auction where maybe I only make 20% and feel disappointed. This era will be a fascinating case study for someone’s MBA or PhD in 20 years.
One lesson that was iterated to me growing up was "Never invest with money that you can't afford to loose." This felt familiar watching this.
Great video, great lessons, Rudy :-) Thanks!
Very true. And money on a credit card is clearly money you can’t afford to lose.
If your money is loose, it's pretty easy to lose.
@@MrJamesT never heard that one, I like it!
Short term: lucky to get out of this situation at a 50% loss
Long term: lucky to make a 15% profit.
Minimum of 5 years.
Subtract the interest...after that its RIP.
21% interest per year, yah good luck with that
If only he didn’t use CC capital for this…
He'll be lucky to break even
What a great PSA for those thinking along the same lines. Rudy, you have a way of putting things in perspective and presenting your point succinctly and in layman's terms for all of the "dreaming Timmy's" out there. Listen to what your big brother is saying, do your due diligence.
Another great video!! 🙌🏼
He admits it's his fault! But it's great he's using this as a teachable moment.
Hey hey hey
i learn something everytime rudy thanks
1984 in the background. LEGEND!
hello Mr. Taco. This video is most definitely what's up
Thumbs Up!
Thank you for this. Its about time you START to talk about this. We need more videos about failure. When to back out. How to learn that YOU got it wrong.
Your own advice paints everything as a massive win. The market got it wrong. The market is still wrong. You're a Timmy if you ever listen to anyone's advice. Stick to your guns.
That all sounds nice because it worked for Rudy but common sense says that mentality will not work for everyone on anything. We need more videos to teach us how to follow your advice but still understand when we screwed up.
Example: I was convinced these Bazooka Joe comics would become nostalgic collectables. I've been accumulating them for 10 years and no real change yet. Do I push forward or stop? I can't listen to anyone's advice because that firmly goes against the Rudy model of success but how do I know if this is something to abandon or if I'm 100% right and just need to stay the course.
Best bet.. balance transfer for a few years making minimum payments until you get lucky and the product ages well.
Bizambizoozled. Poor Timmy. LGS owner got himself a hell of a sale, though. Bet Timmy goes back, too.
Dude will be holding diamond hands till he is 90!
Got a Tacobell ad and all seems right in the world
My lesson was 'War room' I bought a bunch at $6 or 7 bucks only to see it drop to $2 or $3 for almost 2 years! Sure now it's $9 or $10, but I leant the lesson anyway. Sweet card regardless.
What Rudy doesn't take into account is the fear of missing out on other investment avenues. It's not that you're not making as much as you could, but rather, you're not keeping pace with your peers. That puts you at a financial disadvantage when it comes to buying real estate, or any other endeavors. The more money you have, the easier it is to generate.
Rudy has mentioned FUD in several of his videos.
I learned something today, seriously
It cracks me up how anxious Rudy got telling this story. There were legit moments he was just blown away by this guys decision and how deep in the trenches he is.
I bought a few strixhaven Japanese set boxes. I really like the alt cards. At worst, I keep them.
Bummer deal for that other dude.
Fucking Legend. Great advice and insight, thank you Rudy
Nice advice there from that person's store...
Should've gotten collector boxes
strixhaven is such a good set tho will age well in 5 years
I've been thinking the 5 year mark was the number to meet, but these aren't just print to oblivion, they're printed to oblivion across 3 different products. There are draft, set, AND collector boosters for each. I wouldn't be surprised if the time table didn't get stretched out to 7 years before amy movement above 150ish (not accounting for inflation).
it's a great set, and it will go up in value eventually, but this one feels like LONG haul to see a profit. they print so much volume, and regular draft boxes will probably be the last ones moving up in value. The only base version boxes of the last couple years I see being quick money (3 years, price increase more than cost of shipping) are Commander Legends and Ikoria, MAYBE Eldraine, but it feels like that may have less nostalgia for people wanting to relive or because they missed it.
I don't understand why you think it's a good set. It has like no valuable cards. The mystical archives aren't that great either.
He's gotta come up with that 14.9-21.9% interest for 5 years though...
@@dbptwg except these recent products are the ONLY magic products in history that have 3 times the print runs due to the extra types of products.
Tragic but we all get caught swinging our big black skateboards sometimes
wich credit card is the best one for cashback?
So Rudy just said his favorite Lamborghini is a an early 90's style Countach or Diablo.🤘😎🤘
People always talk about “support your LGS”. Sometimes they do you dirty man. I would never support that LGS.
Rudy, how do you see high inflation affecting the collectible market?
another video yay
During preview season, investing a ton into Dickshaven sounded like a good idea because of the mystic archive. Too bad they hand out archive cards with each Taco Bell receipt
I’m all about supporting LGSs but the two closest to me are currently charging $140-180 for a set booster box from AFR...
Rudy being the voice of reason, I don't even play MTG but I like investing in stock and crypto and Rudy always gives nice advice for any kind of investor. Careful out there :)
I’m sure you’ll make up for it in all the modern horizons 2 collector boxes you didn’t crack for patreons. ❤️
Did you even watch the video? Not Rudy, some Timmy.
Pound town I love going there and hate being taken there
he should have spent the $10k on Secret Lair Praetors instead. Would be close to $30k then right now.
Rudy, you should talk about that ;)
Diamond pretzel sticks to the moon.
GGs .. F in the chat for this Timmy
This sounds like someone who tried to make the quick and easy turnaround, not realizing it wasn't a guarantee, and not having a backup for the longterm.
Yep. Classic looking for something for free and ignoring risk.
Rudy: Go Buy A Floppy Taco!! 🌮 🌮 🌮
In the words of Chris Farley, that's gonna leave a mark
Tommy Boy!
That Timmy thought he was a Timothy.
This is a fair warning to everyone!! That fast money is not always good money and you have to be careful of hype
True! Investing on emotions is dangerous
What is Rudy’s opinion on all the Timmys with Nostalgix TCG
But Rudy, Strixhaven was a cool set, sure EV is in the shitter, but OMG loved that set.
Stay the course.
I feel like if this was set booster it might be better to crack them and sell. The list gives you a hell of better chance on money back.
I know you don't read these but I'd love to see the pink visor come out to discuss the state of the market and our "transient" inflation if you're into it.
We found the emperor Timmy
What would you guys say is the realistic average yearly return on tcg?
Rudy mentions in his videos his goal is 5-8%
How can you expect fast money on this stuff? You gotta let it age like some funky cheese 🧀
Lol weird but true
Why do you link to your Patreon when you don't accept new patrons? Will you open it up again?
I suddenly don't feel so bad about getting FOMO and buying 2 boxes of Jumpstart at $140 each when the price kept spiking before they came back down.
Rudy, I am super excited me and my brother didn't want to wait for the set boosters to be available in store so we did the unthinkable we bought a draft booster box. We didn't truly expect a whole lot but oooh boy were we wrong we pulled 230 dollars based on market price with Mythic's, Rare's, Showcase, and Lands. Now we are gonna reinvest those in a collecters for a chance to increase our profits. Or should we go for 2 collectors boxes, double our cards instead of letting it ride on 1 collectors?
If you are opening box for value stop now you have more Chance of gainin Money at the casino
Hey ladies and gents!!!
I decided im going to do some diversifing on my magic card investing...I decided to start buying newer SEALED booster boxes....my theory is as follows...
I noticed over the past 5-7 years that after certain expansions or sets go out of print their prices either creep up slowely or they spike and then plateau...
For example...the urza block i used to have about 20 sealed boxes of these 3 sets (saga/legacy/destiny) i sold them all back in the day for around 100.00 each...
Im just saying i notice that booster box prices seem to shoot up and level out and then creep up...this seems to be the pattern i notice...
nesxt question is how do you identify and pick out which sets will do this next...i feel its to late to buy an urza's saga box (350.00 range) and expect it to gain value over the next 3 years...
Any thoughts???
Im currently considering buying...
20 boxes of Unhinged
20 boxes of 8th edition (maybe....?)
20 boxes of each of the Kamigawa set (champions/betrayers/saviors)
and some other ones i can find good prices on...
whats everyone think?
NFA, But my thought in reading this is to diversify more than just a few sets. Predicting the future is simply impossible, but diversification is the best tool we have to hedge against risk. So while it’s cool to have 20 boxes of a set, diversifying to say 5 boxes of 4 sets will naturally mitigate risk.
@@MagicMetalMoney this was a copy and past from Rudy 17 years ago
@@jk47Ssb oh lol got it. I was confused about the prices but just assumed you were putting in random prices. Lol
His lgs seen him coming from a mile away lmao
I dunno, there are some mechanics in SH that I don't think are in other sets. If he's able to sit on them for a while (likely 10+yrs) they will likely be worth a tonne especially given that most people aren't picking up the set from what I've seen/heard.
As an alternate option... sit on it for 20 or 30 years.
I’m gonna leverage my house and control the market of evolving wilds the OG fetch land
What could go wrong? 😂
Completely aside from the ripoff price, unless you're paying that credit card off in like 2 months max, or had 0% for 12 months or something, the interest completely offsets any gains you might make on the physical product. I know Rudy is saying it now in the video, but people really need to invest in this stuff with liquid capital. Start small, throw 1k-2k at it, and build, then use time to your advantage. That's the game.
Alpha Investments should go public.
Rudy being real
Yikes, he overpaid huge... yet he watches Rudy? How is that even possible?
Because people can make mistakes.
@@leress Of course, but he paid an enormous amount of money for a product that was brand new, in print, etc. knowing everything that Rudy spews (and the rest of the market) about an approximate price point for this product. I guess he may have bet that supply would never make it and gambled it would double in price quickly but damn, that's a big bet he made... and a very risky one.
My memory may be fuzzy… but when was Strix draft that expensive anywhere? I think I ordered 3 boxes at $98-107/ea + tax right around release.
Nowhere besides bullshit LGS (which are in plentiful supply) afaik.
Time to put it all in a spare bathroom!
That LGS owner is a true salesman
Floppiest day old taco you will ever see. Classic.
Dollar Menu Dan Strikes Again
Time in the market > Timing the market
Yup like I said on the last video between $90 and $110 per box. Glad I didnt spend that much with money I didnt have. At least the kids will have something to sell cause like Rudy said its gonna be a long road.
There is no way this is a real story that is insane
I hope it’s not, but crazier things have happened ha
Your videos give me hope that I won't need to work this 9-5 until I'm 65 lol
Hare Krishna
I bought two boxes of crucible, just been chilling in my closet. Think it's worth it to open and go for the gamble?
To me and my personal opinion no on the gamble, but if u had a youtube channel a cool one to open for fun. Just spread out the fun I suggest.
Leveraged... so S&M of him
Nobody said they want to know strix Haven everybody wants them damn Godzilla cards
Dear Timmy,
If your LGS owner's name is Nicol Bolas and he offers you a contract to pay it off, don't take it.
Lol 😂
💯
rudy you forgot to take those off his hands for a third of a price
Basically just grab your ankles and hold on tight….it’ll all be over soon!
Me: hey, what u in for? - Dude: strixhaven, you? Me: monarch. Welcome to poundtown.
Mon to 1k GOD DAMNIT
Cannot believe his LGS stiffed him so hard.

Imagine going into debt because of some colorful cardboard... yeah I can actually relate.
