Great to see it done properly for once. I have never understood why in The States softwood gets felled as high as it does. I think it goes back to cross cut and axes when bore cuts couldn't be made. But they carry on with pre chainsaw methods.
I have a 240 d timberjack, and had many other D models. For a 100- 150 bucks you can build a tree pusher on your rear arch extending out about 24 inches. Gives much more room to cut behind the skidder and safer. Just a thought. 😁
On first tree, top notch cut is suppose to meet the bottom flat notch cut, preferably 1/3 in, and back 1" above notch cut. The camera man is doing a great job.......
Love the video. Thanks for sharing it. My favorites of the job. Walnut and spur cutting. Man, thinkin it would be awesome to work with you. Keep it safe out there. Have an awesome week ahead.
I always enjoy watching you cut veneer logs. Black Walnut is king right now, eh? That and white oak is about all anyone wants to cut around here. They’ll cut red oak if it’s there, and some silver maple, but black cherry and maple is almost worthless right now. Shag bark hickory is still decent, I guess. But back before I owned the family farm, my father got some trees cut 25yrs ago, and at that time black cherry was the high dollar veneer log. I remember even back then the logger paying my dad $800-$900 dollars a piece for a couple of the nicer logs! Now black cherry gets sudden root rot and rarely gets mature. I don’t even think they mark most of it here anymore these days. They tend to grow tall and spindly and blow over in storms. Not sure what changed. I’m in western PA. I haven’t seen you cut cherry. Is it common in your state?
Yes, we have cherry and some decent stuff. The market for cherry died off in 08 and has never come back. There’s a almost nonexistent veneer market for it but I’m not very interested in it. I stick to walnut and white oak mostly. I will cut a off species if it’s the right deal but it has to make sense on paper or I’m not into it.
@@Good.Fellers Aw. Where did you get yours? I've been looking for a better bar then stihl, husky or oregon. An oregon bar doesn't even last 100 hours of work.
@elijahmcgregor9193 Honestly, I never measured work times. I have noticed that Oregon is made from ultra soft steel and is basically junk. Stihl is slightly better but not that much. Sugi only makes a light weight bar which I think isn’t work a d@$&. Tsumara are good but the nose is week I hear. I personally don’t find a problem with the noses but I hear from others. I bought a dozen bars from New England Pine a while back. You can find them on the line, the owners a good dude.
Be curious to see your saw filing angles. Hard to tell due to the editing, some of the rip cuts seem faster than some of the cross cuts but probly just got dulled up on some cross cuts since you were right next to the mud smears on a couple.
Your channel, so do whatever you want to with it. However, though I did enjoy this format, I like what you originally produced better. As I told you some time ago, you’ve got some savvy for one as young as you are - and i think it would be a shame not to share it with those who could definitely use some education.
Hard question to answer. I’ve paid 40 dollars for a junk tree and I’ve paid over 10,000 for a fancy tree. It has a lot of factors, soil, location, bird peck, defects, etc.
@@Good.Fellers gotcha that way you don’t get fiber pull. I cut for firewood so that’s normally not on my mind. I wasn’t knocking you just genuinely curious 👍🏼

Finally, a person who knows how to cut hardwood ,small knotch and cutting close to the ground, and not 3 feet off the ground as many do.
Thank you!
I agree. My dad always told me to cut low. I'd cut low and he'd tell me to cut lower. His favorite line, "You can sell a log, you can't sell a stump".
That’s great line….I might have to borrow that one.

@matthewallen4625 yeah I’m not sure. Hardwood guys all cut low.
Crazy how that old skidder just slid that first one right off the stump. Nice
Little bit of leverage goes a long way!
Nice to see the process from start to finish. Well done!

That Hooscksvarna is well tuned & properly filed walnut is a hard wood! I'm impressed 😮

that chain looks really sharp! nice saw too!
Thank you!
You were lucky. It broke away before the tree had the proper direction of fall.
Better to be lucky then good!
I knew I couldn't have been the only one to notice that, good thing that but stopped sliding when it did

I cut each tree the way that tree needs to be cut. Trees are like snowflakes.
Well done, as usual.

I figured you would!

the trunk is also called the “bole”
in the NW veneer logs are called peelers or slicers.
nice walnut!

Don't worry I noticed you had that saw sharp AF😂😂

Curious as to how much $$ this tree ended up bringing?
I’m not going to talk dollars on the internet.
Great cutting technique on that first tree, i loved how you just slightly pushed it with a skidder.

how much do you get for a tree like that.

Yep
Why don't you just go ahead & cut the top part apart & use them also because that's just wasting wood
