Some of you dont realize the level of confusion going through their heads lmao. They usually hold their food in water to help their paws better feel what it is they are eating. It helps them get more information. They take the cotton candy intending to get information about it but it disappears. Imagine getting a burger you didn't ask for in the bag, and it just disappears as soon as you unwrap it to see what kind it is.
I thought it was just instinct to wash their food or help hydrate dry food?
True scientific thinking.
1. Notice something strange.
2. Repeat circumstances to establish pattern.
3. Guess what is causing the phenomenon.
4. Test hypothesis.
5. Repeat experiment and document result.
6. Publish paper and await repeated experiments and results from peers.
These racoons are closer to doctoral thesis than I ever have been.
I like how they eventually stopped trying to "clean" the cotton candy and just outright ate it while resisting the urge to put it in the bowl.
Fun fact: when they put food into water, it's not to clean it. It's because they work out whether something is edible or not by feeling it with their extremely sensitive hands. And the water actually helps them feel the food better.
You’re laughing. This raccoon just dissolved his cotton candy six times in a row without figuring out what’s happening and you’re laughing.
It was to see if they could problem-solve! No harm in giggling at their reaction that it kept disappearing. 😁
It is a twisted joke, but it's funny to see them frantically swishing the water around and be like wtf? Looking up at owner in disbelief and then going back and forth
Can we appreciate just how careful they’re being to not spill the water?

Raccoon: “and I took that personally”
I love how they keep feeling around the bowl, like "where is it? It was JUST HERE!"
Fun fact: raccoon in French is Raton laveur because laveur means washer so basically some French person saw a raccoon washing their food and went “yes”
Meanwhile on raccoon youtube: how to trick your hooman into making you a giant bowl of koolaid.
All I can imagine is half the videos are racoons unboxing shit, making let's plays and like 5 percent of the videos are humans getting tricked into doing stupid shit
I love when they reach for or grab at things without looking...
If they can’t see what they’re grabbing no one can see what they’re grabbing 😂😂😂😂
This reminds me of the book Rascal by Sterling North published in 1963.
I checked it out of the school library and read it when I was in 6th grade. I couldn't stop laughing when Rascal would take a sugar cube to wash off first, but each time they just kept disappearing.
I recall laughing hysterically and even reading that part to my parents.
Classic!
Hope kids are given that book to read still.😊
I can tell Piper is the clumsy one bcs when the cotton dissolved he looks around to search it like “where did i put it, i swear it was right in front of me jn” 🤣😂❤️
Yeah being clumsy and forgetful are the same thing... the IQ of the people making comments in these kind of videos takes the average down to room temperature.
@@thomgizziz Being unable to draw a connection between being clumsy and thinking you could have dropped something. I believe you were saying something about intelligence?
@RenameJames if you're clumsy, you might drop stuff more than other people. So naturally every once in a while you'd think you dropped something when you didn't.
Don't be a fucking cunt.
Their nose bending when they smush their faces onto the counter is so cute tho wth-
This is crazy how this video shows how how adorable these guys really are but when you're taking out the trash at 2am in the dark they look like the gremlins
Oh they'll kick your ass. I was taking out the trash one time and those bastards leg swept me and gouged my left eye while one of them took my car keys.
Can’t you tell that they are hygienic creatures and have perfect table manner? They wash their food before eating 😂😍
They aren't washing it actually. They put their food in water to get a better feel of it.
Why did people dislike this, they came for a racoon being tricked with cotton candy
And thats exactly what they got.
The learning curve for these guys is a flat line at zero.
Think i read somewhere that the dunking is like robotic instinct at this point, they are completely slaves to the dunk lol
To be fair, dissolving is kind of like magic and way above the understanding of an animal.
He was just like "Is dry, needs water... oh no! It vanished! :O"
True fact: no raccoon has ever gotten better than a D in chemistry.
At least they want to wash their hands and food.. i know human beings who are still to dumb for it
This is actually not true. The raccoon behind my school helped me get an A on my chemistry final in highschool. So I know he at least had above a B.
It even tried looking under the bowl 😂😂😂 Also raccoons are very smart in other ways. My dad when he was very young they had two pet raccoons and they trained themselves to use the toilet, wipe, and flush it…Which is………very interesting. Anyways raccoons are ADORABLE.
That's the, " I just lost my keys" level of searching. Pure hysteria!😂😂
These animals are having their entire understanding of reality shattered and we're just giggling.
Humans are clearly evil.
I love watching them loose the cotton candy to the water and yet still bring their lil hands to their mouth and chew on nothing but hopes and dreams
I wonder if theyre tasting the water with their hands
"Well the fluffy stuff is gone but now we have tasty water"
"Racoon! DID YOU PUT YOUR COTTON CANDY INTO THE GOBLET OF WATER!?" Mother asked calmly.
Bless their sweet innocent hearts.
I just imagine the words “wtf” being on replay in their little noggins and the cheerful music makes it so much better😂😂

i remember seeing a video like this a few years ago and i cried. just because someone gave the poor raccoon a piece of cotton candy and he was so excited. he wanted it to be perfect so he brought it to the river to clean it. as it disappeared he was scrambling to find it and he looked so perplexed.
saddest shit i’ve ever seen.
When you watch the full clip of that one eventually the raccoon learns not to put it in the water
What's interesting is that the raccoons in the zoo figured it out after two or three tries whereas these reasons kept trying. Might be that the zoo stimulates problem solving similar to what a raccoon would experience in wilderness while a cozy home encourages looking cute for more free food...
I feel so bad for the little fella. This is like when parents wrap up a Nintendo console box for Christmas but inside is only books or something. It's just mean. Animals have emotions, too. ☹️ He's looks so sweet and lovable. I could never prank him like that. He looked so heartbroken every time it disappeared.
Thank you, this wholesome silliness brought a very much needed smile to my face.

Lol! Where's the cotton candy now Tito?? However, it caught my attention the fact that most generally, animals do not tend to soak their foodstuffs into the water, neither domestic animals nor wild animals either!! Very interesting! This is what happened to u as a child when ur mom said that she “could hold on to your birthday money for u”
I learned at a young age that the only person I could trust with my money was Mister Lockbox
I'm laughing so hard but the whole time I'm just going "Oh no, that poor baby, it's just looking and looking like 'I just HAD IT!?' and it doesn't know what happened!"
Raccoons are the little adorable cats that shove your glasses off the table when you’re not looking…. So mischievous, yet so cute!
Back when I was a kid in the 1950s, we had a zoo in our city, and we used to go to it frequently. They had raccoons that lived in a circular habitat with the outside ring being their play area. Well, there was just a fence between the raccoons and the people, so we were able to reach over and give them popcorn, or peanuts, or cotton candy. Well it was just so funny when we gave them the cotton candy and they would run over to their water source which was a little flowing fountain. It just cracked us up to see them run over and wash the cotton candy only to have it disappear in their hands, and then come back for more. Kids can be really cruel. I think back on that now, and I realize what a rotten trick to pull on them. I'm 76 and I still get a little guilt pang whenever I think about that.
I love how they even looked at you like "you *did* give that to me, right??"
Why is no one talking about how sticky his hands probably are
Oh yes deals for Dona Boulevard are in the washer Sansa I asked to do is put down but I want to watch the van van oh yes to do is put down a bowl and it will wash his hands off
all they have to do is put down another bowl of water and the raccoon will wash his hands
No matter how many times I see this video, it never gets old. Lol
It made me happy that you let them try it first without the water to wash in. At least they got to try it first. ❤️
Poor guy, he kept putting the cotton candy in the water and it kept dissolving and he was looking for it 😂
thanks for that play by play because the rest of us that saw the video couldn't figure out what happened.

Japanese for raccoon is “Araiguma,” which means washing bear because they wash their food.
Edit: Wow so many likes. I've learned from the replies that a lot of other countries call them "wash bears" too. Interesting!
And yeah raccoons and tanukis are different species. A tanuki is more brownish in colour and don't have striped tails.
And in German it's "Waschbär", which you can maybe guess the meaning of lol.
@@protatochip The question is why both Japanese and Germans think raccoons are bears. "It has hair, it's a bear"?

That face they make when they're like "WTF, where'd my candy go?" is the cutest thing ever
Interesting that they have very tactile sensation on their claws of the sugar contracting and it looks like it is tied to a response to nibble at it - probably some other fibrous material did the same thing in one of their evolutionary habitats.
No thoughts present when it just disappears though lol
fun fact: Raccoons dont wash their food in water, they put their food in water so they can feel it better, water hightens their touch senses
No, raccoons put the food in water because they don’t have salivary glands, they don’t produce saliva so they wet the food not to choke

It’s so cute how they try cleaning it in the water and it just disappears and then try finding it
Little known fact: raccoons don’t actually put it in water to wash it, raccoons wet their food to gather more sensory information about it from nerve endings in their paws. Moistening food enhances a raccoon's understanding of what it is eating.

Duncan Trussell described racoons washing cotton candy as a perfect metaphor for the human condition. Whatever we try to hold that we think will make us happy dissolves as soon as we get it. It illustrates the futility of seeking happiness from our surroundings.

@@verameertens839 I mean fruit already has a stupid amount of natural sugars in it, and raccoons normally eat a lot of native fruits if they can reach them. Granted it’s the other ingredients that are probably more harmful, but the amount they got won’t hurt them in the long run, they might puke later, but that’s better then them getting ill.

We had to bring our cups everywhere we went to prevent it. But if you know raccoons. Lets just say she gave him a cooled down one when we poured ours. Gave him a tiny mug. He was happy.
