Fun fact: Lawrence recently completed a 23andMe DNA test and discovered that he has no genealogical relationship to David Attenborough. That's right, THE David Attenborough!
You are the best presenter for a bag!! I have been debating on which travel bag to buy for my trip to Japan and I've decided on this bag over a few others I've been debating on! You are the reason for my decision as well!! This video is amazing and the reason I would want to buy Peak instead of the competition - this detailed video showing off every feature in detail instead of as a quick commercial made a huge difference in my buying decision!! Damn!! After reading a few negative reviews, I've discovered the the shoulder straps suck and hurt your back/shoulders quite a bit if you have more than 30L worth of gear in the bag....I'm going to be backpacking across Japan for 2 whole weeks with one bag on my back the whole time. I do not want to have to carry my shit if it's going to kill my shoulders...I was debating on whether or not to do the 1 bag travel or a carry on suitcase and day pack....I'll keep your daypack in mind in case I can't find a proper 1 bag trip solution.
This is indeed amazing in how you guys managed to make such a systematic backpack yet with ease to use. As owners of charcoal everyday 20L and sling 10L, I think I will go for the ash one...The black one also looks great but (from my point of view) would be even better if it comes with some amazing color trimming that representing the creativity of your team. (like the red trimming we've got on the charcoal - it's low profile yet stands out from other day bags).
I love backpacks and great design. It’s obvious that you guys love backpacks and do great design. I just received my backpack and accompanying kit ... excellent work on great gear. Ticks all the boxes for me. Lucky I watched this vid as there were a couple of features noted I wasn’t aware of. What next Peak Designs .... I’m waiting ...
When I use bags that open at the back like this one, I typically take both arms out of the shoulder straps but keep the waist strap on and swing the bag around my waist, then open it. That way I can easily change lenses and do all sorts of thing. If I drop anything it will land inside the bag. With some packs (like the Lowepro Flipside 400) this works really well, with others it feels rather precarious, like something will fall out at anytime, or the whole thing will collapse and my gear will be all over the place. How does this work with the travel backpack? Also, the product I REALLY hope you will make is a bike handlebar bag for DSLRs. There are a few of them out there, none of them is good. In the end I made my own and it kind of works, but I really wish there was a good option available over the shelf.
Many people like me think that walking in the street with a tripod not concealed in a bag aside seems too high-profile. I hope Peak Design will release a set of tripod bags for different sizes with always PD low-profile style and attachable to Molle straps in the future. And a series of Molle system backpack to adventurous photographers. Thanks!
Oh man please make the best travel tripod to ever exist. Every other tripod has some weird limitation or drawback. Here's my Kickstarter money already >$$$$$$
Oh, I'm loving the Sage!! I can't quite bring myself to buy from a non-EU location though - I'd have to pay an additional 25% in sales tax when the package reaches Sweden and that's just not doable for me right now 😭
FaerieDust, we send EU orders from our UK warehouse (and additionally during the Kickstarter Campaign we don't add VAT to the cost of your pledge, as would be the case ordering through our website) the Kickstarter is the cheapest way to get hold of the new Travel Line.
Really need to mount a tripod centered on the back. The only thing lacking is a hideable pouch at the bottom to support the legs. Otherwise this bag looks great.
Is the zipper to main compartment which is holding the whole load safe enough? How long you think it will last before it breaks? I really like how the bag looks but really unsure about that zipper holding the whole load. Especially when you have photo gear inside.
Your first "pro" tip is a bad tip for 2 reasons, leaving the zips at the top makes the bag a bigger target for thieves and if you load the contents wrongly it's possible that the weight can pull the bag open by nudging the zippers. I've experienced both of these, it's better to put the zippers at the bottom, pull both to the top when you want to grab the laptop, then put both zippers down to one side. This also means that you are more likely to feel someone trying to grab the zipper and open your bag.
The expansion zippers increase the volume of the front compartment (the one with the pocket that has the sleeves for organizing small objects) by 10L. The main compartment doesn't change volume unless you use the compression snaps at the top of the bag to reduce it by 5L.
Will the 5l everyday sling fit in the backpack. I was the thinking this would be great to use travel to a destination and then have that has a daypack. I realize you could use the camera inserts but the sling has the possibility to be carried in different ways like a waist pack.
Do you think that putting so much stress on that main zipper is good idea? Capacity is humongous, so is possibly weight of the load. I owe two backpacks where I can get to the main compartment through the zipper on the back, but straps are connected to the frame of a backback. Here is different and straps are connected to the main flap... putting almost all of the weight and stress on that main zipper. I'm a huge Peak Design geek and I've seen the evolution of your products from the start. I use a lot of them, but with backpacks - I will wait a year or two for v2's. I would not take this backpack on some 3-month journey through the woods to check out some chimpanzees... not that I want and could ever do, but still. ;) Cheers!
Hej guys from Peak Design. It looks cool would love to buy my third backpack from you guys. I just want one thing to be better. Your shoulder straps is hard on my shoulders. Please make some kind of shoulder padding accessory available to buy and put on our PD backpack shoulder straps!
The shoulder straps on the travel backpack are improved upon from the straps on the everyday backpack (slightly different padding, more flexible) based on customer feedback. That being said there are already quite a few accessories on the market (such as this - www.amazon.com/dp/B009YP1K7Y?tag=vglnkc6761-20 - as an example, there are MANY more designs out there) that allow people to add extra padding to shoulder and backpack straps very cheaply and quickly.
I saw that face when you spoke about the tripod. Are you designing a tripod? Because I’m looking to get one and I would wait to see what you come up with
Hi Guys I have seen every video possible on your bag and I love it. I will start a world tour in 2019 for 1 year, and I am searching the perfect one for it since 1 year now. I have seen many options and the Nomatic travel bag, the Tortuga Setout and the Goruck GR2 was my best pick so far. But when a discover your new bag a week ago, I falling in love with it. BUT, and that's my main concern : I would like to know if I will be able to fit everything I need in it. I can't be sure if it's possible because you never show how exactly what can be inside your packing cube, etc.. I have an hypothetical list of what I need during my world tour : 1 pants or 2, 2 or 3 shorts, 1 jacket, 1 sweatshirt, 8 socks/underpants/t-shirt, 1 microfiber towel, 1 pair of shoes (trails one for world tour, they are the best), 1 iPad or little laptop, tech accessories and hard drive, 1 little daily bag, 1 toilet bag, and maybe a Reflex with one lens. If I can fit all of this list, I buy your bag right now :D Since I will need to take a pair of shoes, I will need to have enough space to take those. I was thinking of putting my shoes on, when I take the plane and when I am not, I put those in the 10l expansion, like that I can carry on a plane every time. That's my main concern: I want to carry on on every plane. I don't want to know if I can fit 20 t-shits (like in one of your video) in the packing cube since I will never take 20 t-shirts lol. But can I fit pant, short, jacket, sweatshirts and so on, and how many of them. And if not what the maximum of stuff, I can put on. Maybe with packing cubes not compressed I can still manage to put everything, and would be very curious to know. Your bag is awesome, and you do an amazing job. Thanks you, you will maybe make my life easier during my world tour :p PS: sorry for my english, i tried my best ;)
Check out the Kickstarter Campaign page for the Travel Line - www.peakdesign.com/ks Many of your questions are answered in detail through the diagrams and comment discussions. Also check out Chase Reeves' recent review of the bag for one-bag travel czcams.com/video/1WEwXeU_te8/video.html - He specifically covers packing the backpack with the packing cubes and has a sample load out similar to what you're looking for.
Thanks for the reply MA. Danavans, the short answer is yes, you should be able to fit all that stuff easily. Adam from the PD team just took an extended trip to Mongolia. He packed 2 pairs of pants, 2 shorts, 1 jacket, 1 long sleeved shirt, 3 short sleeve collared shirts, 4 t-shirts, 1 microfiber towel, 1 pair of shoes (he wore his larger boots), 1 13-inch macbook pro, a bunch of tech accessories, a bunch of toiletries, a 5L Peak Design Everyday Sling with a mirrorless camera and extra lens, and a few other things (rain jacket, travel documents, etc).
Thank you, i didn't read the comments on the kickstarter page, so i will take a look. But i already know for the Chase Reeves videos ;) Thank you Peak Design for your response :) It's really usefull for me. I think you will have one more backer :p
I think it would need a really HEAVY and LOUD 'background' beat to make Lawerence any less awkward, it's just not how he rolls... It might encourage him to bring out his guitar and start one of his off the cuff tunes too...
Hi PD Team, I have this questions many times, but didn’t get any answer from CZcams, Email, Facebook. I want to know that will there any smaller size of this travel backpack, which still fits large camera cube, in the future? This bag is way higher for me to be a one-bag-solution for travel, even though I really love the design of this bag. Thanks.
That's a tough one - the Large size Camera Cube almost completely fills the main compartment of this backpack with only enough space at the top for a tech pouch, so it can't get much smaller dimension-wise (unless they do a version that omits the front compartment entirely).
Hey Ryan, we are focused on launching the current Travel Line Backpack which goes from 30-45L. We do have other backpacks in the 18-30L Categories, so although I can't say we won't be introducing a more travel orientated smaller backpack, I can't see it anytime soon.
Hi MA, thanks for replying here. I understand that it can't be much smaller than the current 45L bag. What I want is a one that, just as you said, can just fit the large camera cube and left almost no space for another small pouch. In this way, the capacity of the bag is still quite acceptable, while the size, especially the height, can be smaller (maybe from 56cm to 50-52cm?). Plus the compressible (not sure if I use this word correctly) and expansion function, it can really fit more osscasions.
It's a 15" laptop, please see the following graphic which can be found on the Kickstarter Page, it shows the maximum dimensions, 30cm x 40cm x 2.5cm ksr-ugc.imgix.net/assets/022/024/467/786b320b55ae9108efc892b373908933_original.jpg?w=680&fit=max&v=1532566711&auto=format&q=92&s=a913e8be7c6b1391b556106688ac8f5a
It looks really, really handsome (the bag), but I don't want to travel with good looking gear that turdbags want to steal. I suppose the black one might be acceptable, and the sage one dowdy enough not to attract too much attention, but quality oozes out of this stuff and that's hard to hide.
We are just waiting on the final version of the Camera Cubes arriving in the office, and then we'll be jumping on to film them. We are hoping to do a Hangout of the Camera Cubes which will possibly be out before that. If it is the Packing Cubes, please refer to the following video where they are shown in a little more detail czcams.com/video/5BNobBdLMc0/video.html Timestamps are in the comments section.
Yup, there was a minor mistake in the weight, I believe due to the position of a decimal point, the bag has NEVER been over 5lbs in any of its prototype iterations, a simple mistake, please refer to the following graphic ksr-ugc.imgix.net/assets/022/024/467/786b320b55ae9108efc892b373908933_original.jpg?w=680&fit=max&v=1532566711&auto=format&q=92&s=a913e8be7c6b1391b556106688ac8f5a
I can't believe I just spent 20 minutes watching a vid about a backpack. But I loved every minute.
This is my tird video about it XD
The best part was when Lawrence was talking about the dress shirt. Had me dying.
Lawrence you are the best presenter for PD... the whole crew is great but you are informative and entertaining... you're informataining.
Ryan Finkbiner pro tip
Fun fact: Lawrence recently completed a 23andMe DNA test and discovered that he has no genealogical relationship to David Attenborough. That's right, THE David Attenborough!
"that he has no genealogical relationship" .......Wow... that's incredibly.... underwhelming? LOL
A salesman for those of us who hate salesmen. And don't we all hate salesmen?
Lawrence the best presenter hands down
I love that guy. I want to see more of him, does not matter what he sells.

This ended the development of the bag...It is true perfection backpack.
The attention to detail on this thing is 🔥🔥🔥
Goddamn I love this company.
Such great customer care too!
This new guy for your Deep Dives and Setup videos is my favorite person ever.
I might have to buy the bag just because Lawrence made me enjoy this video way too much

Hinting on a peak design tripod?
holy shit this is like the best backpack ever made
I love backpacks and great design.
Love the humor! It’s a tutorial and stand-up comedy rolled in one. :-)
Please do your best to make it clear to Lawrence that you're laughing *with* him and not *at* him. He's very sensitive.
Peak Design Video Lawrence I’m laughing with you not at you :-)
Was that some foreshadowing to a future Peak Designs tripod that I caught in there??
I NEED THIS BAG IN MY LIFE
JUST DO IT
Side access in backpack is one of the best thing ever
Love the comments throughout the video! Keep it up!
oh man why did I click on this video, now I am so tempted to buy a bag I don't need... 😂
My dogs went nuts over the squeaking sound. 👍🐾👏
excellent video about a fabulously designed backpack! very entertaining too!
I'm so happy I backed this. My current travel backpack sucks

7:02 Whoa. Was... that a hint at a future product?
yeah please invent the best travel tripod already!
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Oh no you got me waiting
Peak Design Video ha ha nice gonna look forward to that next year
Peak Design Video now I don’t know whether to get a tripod or wait!
I’m getting the black but that new sage colour is dope!
Hahahahaha! This guy needs to do all the videos. Period.
Lawrence needs an Oscar i dont care anymore
Y'all have really thought everything through. I can't wait to get mine!
I just watch because it’s Lawrence
Way out of my budget, but this has to be the most perfect backpack ever for my weekend photo getaways.
You should make a hybrid of the everyday backpack and the travel line :D
Many people like me think that walking in the street with a tripod not concealed in a bag aside seems too high-profile. I hope Peak Design will release a set of tripod bags for different sizes with always PD low-profile style and attachable to Molle straps in the future. I’m super excited about the new travel line, I just wish I would be using the bag on my upcoming trip in October!!
best and funniest product presentation ever!
Hmmm....feels like a nice possible teaser for a future product at the 7 minute mark?
So glad there's a spot for my _pencils_
Is that a backpack, or a space shuttle?! Wow. I'm not sure I'll ever be able to figure out all the features... Can't wait to try mine!
Oh man please make the best travel tripod to ever exist. Every other tripod has some weird limitation or drawback. Here's my Kickstarter money already >$$$$$$
Waiting for my pack in December. BTW, nice flamingo.
There are so few rules for men's fashion but they are the only guides we have for how to dress, save SOs. Follow them. Belt and shoes should match.
That's a handsome bag.
i was literally just watching the last hangout
So your going to design and manufacture tripods next. Nice!
Just bought my 30L everyday as a travel bag! Kinda disappointed I missed this one before I bought it as I would’ve definitely gone with this.
This is one awesome video and review!
The bag is awesome too!
Best video ever.
Also, the side comment at 7:04 is very interesting.
It's almost like you guys put some thought into this.
Please make a smaller version of this maybe a 25L version? Just like your Everyday Backpacks (20L/30L). Awesome stuff PD.
Load that puppy with the full travel bundle
We will in our next video. Stay tuned!
Peak Design Video Oh well, that changes EVERYTHING! Hello, new backpack 😍 Thank you for letting me know!!!
What lock do you use in this video? I cannot find it anywhere.
07:07 confirmed, peak design is working on a tripod
I NEED A PD TRIPOD IN MY LIFE!!
I want to use my travel backpack for many years. So what r the best maintenance tips you can give us?
2:10 ... WOW... good job :D
thank you, exactly, weddings are too formal.
love the video and love your company!
Alright, waiting for the tripod now guys
I don't need the bag but I want that hinted at tripod
Man they’ve really thought this bag thru
Really need to mount a tripod centered on the back. The only thing lacking is a hideable pouch at the bottom to support the legs. Otherwise this bag looks great.
Is the zipper to main compartment which is holding the whole load safe enough? How long you think it will last before it breaks? I really like how the bag looks but really unsure about that zipper holding the whole load. Especially when you have photo gear inside.
Really bummed about the colors. Thought I wanted "Sage", until I just realized how not-Ash Sage is... :(
tyme taylor I know what you mean. At least if the sage had the same leather accents as the ash
I agree! I totally want this bag but in Ash! :(
I'll get that beutiful bag!
"It's not a big deal"😂👍
PLZ TAKE MY MONEY!!
But video is better in 1.25 speed, no offense 😂
I'm doing 1.5x lol
Your first "pro" tip is a bad tip for 2 reasons, leaving the zips at the top makes the bag a bigger target for thieves and if you load the contents wrongly it's possible that the weight can pull the bag open by nudging the zippers. I've experienced both of these, it's better to put the zippers at the bottom, pull both to the top when you want to grab the laptop, then put both zippers down to one side. This also means that you are more likely to feel someone trying to grab the zipper and open your bag.
im stressed which colour to get. team black vs team sage?
So if you were to expand the front, does that make the organisation pocket bigger or the main volume? Assuming you have the divider in...
The expansion zippers increase the volume of the front compartment (the one with the pocket that has the sleeves for organizing small objects) by 10L. The main compartment doesn't change volume unless you use the compression snaps at the top of the bag to reduce it by 5L.
Nice video ! 😄
love the bag.... hate kickstarter.
perfect!
Will the 5l everyday sling fit in the backpack. I was the thinking this would be great to use travel to a destination and then have that has a daypack. I realize you could use the camera inserts but the sling has the possibility to be carried in different ways like a waist pack.
Can you bring this inside the plane as a carry-on and fit top overboard?
Do you think that putting so much stress on that main zipper is good idea? Capacity is humongous, so is possibly weight of the load. I owe two backpacks where I can get to the main compartment through the zipper on the back, but straps are connected to the frame of a backback. Here is different and straps are connected to the main flap... putting almost all of the weight and stress on that main zipper.

Hi Guys
I have seen every video possible on your bag and I love it.
I will start a world tour in 2019 for 1 year, and I am searching the perfect one for it since 1 year now.

I have a crack a the best travel day pack....what do you think?
Have you thought of using a subtle background beat? I think it would make the video feel a little less awkward...

FYI, pro tip at 9:48
Quick question, up to how many inch laptop will this backpack hold? Is it just up to 15 inch or are 17 inch laptops fine with this backpack?
It's a 15" laptop, please see the following graphic which can be found on the Kickstarter Page, it shows the maximum dimensions, 30cm x 40cm x 2.5cm ksr-ugc.imgix.net/assets/022/024/467/786b320b55ae9108efc892b373908933_original.jpg?w=680&fit=max&v=1532566711&auto=format&q=92&s=a913e8be7c6b1391b556106688ac8f5a
I need this to know, will it fit my Asus ROG GL502VT in the laptop compartment? Size is 15.4 x 10.5 x 0.9 inches thanks!
The maximum laptop size on the campaign is 16 x 11 x 1 inch, so you should be just fine.
is the waist straps work with your fanny pack
no they are not removeable
Make that in charcoal and take my money!
For reference, can you tell me the size of the tripod used in the video please?
I believe it is a Gitzo Traveler Series 2 tripod Dimensions on the following page www.manfrotto.co.uk/gitzo-tripod-kit-traveler-series-2-4-sections
It looks really, really handsome (the bag), but I don't want to travel with good looking gear that turdbags want to steal. I suppose the black one might be acceptable, and the sage one dowdy enough not to attract too much attention, but quality oozes out of this stuff and that's hard to hide.
So when does your tripod launch on kickstarter?
Tripod??? who said tripod? We have a sweet backpack on KS right now ;-)
When will the cube videos be out ?
We are just waiting on the final version of the Camera Cubes arriving in the office, and then we'll be jumping on to film them. We are hoping to do a Hangout of the Camera Cubes which will possibly be out before that.
If it is the Packing Cubes, please refer to the following video where they are shown in a little more detail czcams.com/video/5BNobBdLMc0/video.html
Timestamps are in the comments section.
Will the sage colour be coming to other bags..?
Hi Ben, the short answer just now is, we don't know, maybe we'll need to see the response to the new colorway first.... Watch this space...
Thanks, fingers crossed I guess..

What is the weight of the bag?
A nice bag, but good to see if you can cut down the weight to within 2kg
We are at 2.05kg, It's close, we have prioritised function and build over drop dead weight.
Peak Design Video oh really? It says 2.6kg. is that some new update?
Yup, there was a minor mistake in the weight, I believe due to the position of a decimal point, the bag has NEVER been over 5lbs in any of its prototype iterations, a simple mistake, please refer to the following graphic ksr-ugc.imgix.net/assets/022/024/467/786b320b55ae9108efc892b373908933_original.jpg?w=680&fit=max&v=1532566711&auto=format&q=92&s=a913e8be7c6b1391b556106688ac8f5a
