    Good content just add my two cents, on bare pipe I always use two squares, one on the olet and one on the pipe. Leave a slight gap and the top to allow for the heat to draw the fitting way faster and consistent, then use a level to double check your two hole and level the fitting. In addition to a wedge it’s nice to keep a couple of 8-10” long pieces of pipe (1/2”, 3/4”, 1” diameter) with threads on one side and square cut on the other to thread in the olet and use a bit of leverage to help keep tacks from popping when only using a wedge. You can also use the square cut end of those pieces in weldolets the same size to help fit them. I also like to use a center finder to make punch marks for layout of the fitting and for reference later.
    Nothing wrong with what he taught though multiple ways to fit up the same fitting, good video

    I don't got a center finder so for small enough pipes I use a square and a level. Just butt the square handle against the side of the pipe while the scale part is on top of the pipe.
    Make sure the square is level with the world and make a mark on the radius of the pipe.

  • @georgeellington870
    @georgeellington870 Před 5 lety

    To your fitter, quick little tip, use your center finder, get a compass set it to the I.D. of your thread-o-let, run your compass to mark your pipe. Good job using the punch. Also use a threaded nipple and use a "torpedo level." Leave the nipple in so the welder can check his level during and post weld. Keep on learning young man. Oh, also, never pull tape from top of a raised face flange unless you take in consideration for the face of the flange, that slip on looked like a 150# so it's 1/16".

    Eyeball the dimension? It doesn't have to be perfect because it's not a production piece? Thank God. How did he center his hole? And punching the outline of your hole is a waste of time, especially when you're reference line is a marker 1/2" thick. Preheating the hole on pipe that thin is unnecessary. That "c" curve on the sock-o-let is called a saddle. The "90 square" is a 2ft. framing square. And hi-lo is an industry term for internal misalignment. How can people looking for good information really benefit from this? Good initiative, bad judgment. Next time get a real pipe fitter, not someone who's been a "fitter" for no more than a year and decide to put him on your channel cuz he's your friend.
