I have exactly the same TV in my garage, and it's awesome. I use It to play my PS2 and my favorite the OG Xbox, with the component cables, and it looks amazing. 🤘🕹🎮🍻

With all this modern technology, there’s gotta be a way to build a “modern” crt TV. There’s a business opportunity there, Mark my words

It won't happen. Not enough demand and it's too expensive. I don't think we can ever exactly emulate a cathode ray well enough. I have 8 old CRTs collected now for old consoles. I grew up with this technology and I now regret getting rid of my old ones. My best ones are a top notch are a small Toshiba, Sony, and a big 30 inch Philips Matchline with wireless speakers. It's a hulk of a TV.

3:25 With all those gimmicks, image processing and tons of inputs, I would get a Panansonic Full HD Plasma from 2009-2010. You get 42" weighing 1/3rd, with way better IQ and 1080p modern console compatibility.
With CRT's, go for the 14-21" models. Those are lag-free, not too heavy, no fancy image processing, they suffer less from distortion like the larger 110° tubes do, and the 21" ones often have both S-video and RGB inputs. On the other side, these beasts are often (near) free, but so do those plasma's as the backache from bringing it to recycling is a worse deal than offering free pickup.
A 14" Trinitron on the other hand is usually 20 bucks as well. Only the 21" ones tend to be a bit more expensive, up to 100 bucks. Check if it offers real stereo, many Trinitrons have fake dual speaker grills, especially the last generation (2000-2005) seems cheaply made.

This video was perfect timing for me. For the last week or so I've been gaming on a 30-inch Panasonic CRT TV from the early 2000's. I've been using a Raspberry Pi 4, because the Pi 4 has a composite output, but I also ordered a component cable for my PS3. When that cable gets here I'm going to try out the PS3 as a CRT gaming machine.
I really like the low latency and the motion smoothness of the CRT. It also gets me immersed in the game because it's like a dedicated display.
TurboGrafx 16 looks amazing on CRT. You can tell that the games were designed with that display in mind, The clouds and landscapes in Soldier Blade look completely different, in a good way.

I can't believe no one is making CRTs for gaming. You would think there would at least be one company out there filling this need.

Huge/heavy, no more factories making them, toxic materials (specifically lead), I'd say CRTs are basically a no-go. Eventually we'll have to settle for CRT shaders in emulators/FPGA based systems on modern displays, and IR/other solutions like Sinden for light gun gaming. But hey, MAYBE we'll figure out how to make a CRT-like flat panel display (no lag and all), but I wouldn't expect that for a LONG time, if it's even possible.

I got a 32”, 17” and a 13”. All for free this past year. I went straight to Facebook and asked. I use the 32 for my Wii the 17” with my N64 and PS2. The 13” for my Raspberry Pi.

Or you can keep your LCD and get a RetroTink 4k which can make any LCD look like a CRT. Also great for VHS movies and such.

A free, or near free Plasma from 2009-2010 can hook up ALL your consoles AT ONCE and offer pretty awesome upscaling without fake CRT look. It looks WAY better than any LCD TV. VHS movies ARE NOT cool. Same with DVD's. Blu Ray or bust.

I borrowed some old Ps2 light guns and Time Crisis games for my old 30" Philips TV and they didn't work correctly. I switched to one of my smaller CRTs and they were fine. I never came across that back in the day. Maybe my Philips TV is a very late CRT.

People stop this nostalgia nonsense and move on already. I grew up with CRT and would never go back to that

Old games with art that was designed for scanlines, played on modern display look like utter garbage though, so it's not pure nostalgia. I guess you can emulate scanlines but that's extra hardware and expense where these CRTs can often be found for free or nearly free and are literally the ideal screen for systems that were designed for that hardware. Also, I still enjoy my PS2 lightgun collection at arcade-fast response times, thanks to CRT (the input delay for any IR technology for example the wii-mote is painfully laggy). In many ways CRTs are still the GOAT setup.

It's not only nostalgia, it's matching the tech together with how it was meant to be used. It's not necessary, but its true, it's works and it's better. But a bit more hassle to get. Not really necessary, but why not, especially if the TV gets more use and is not dumped. My old PlayStations, NES and Amiga 500 look amazing on old TVs. As well as my old PCs, Simclair Spectrum, etc. Just how it was meant to be. I also modern TVs with some of them, but it isn't just as good.
