      Consistency is primary habit formation 101. We all struggle with it hard. That's the humanity within us. Habits form through consistent, day-after-day commitment to ourselves. If we don't have commitment to ourselves, that's a big area to start looking and asking why. Easier said than done.

    That part about freeing your mind by having good habits so you don’t need to decide the little things every time is great. As a general contractor and finish carpenter I got up really early, read, wrote, ate, loaded up and got to jobsite early before anyone else. That gave me peace and quiet to walk through and plan my work mentally with no distractions. That way as the day progressed I just had to execute the tasks instead of decide. I had already done the job in my head. It made my work life enjoyable, and efficient.

    “Love/Hate” equals balance. For myself, Integrity- Doing the Right Thing When No One Is Watching- has been the cornerstone of my self discipline journey. Second to this- Humility, Remaining Teachable. Thank you for your time and dedication Essential Craftsman. I will always carry you in my thoughts/ memories and hold you in high esteem.

    • @alexanderkupke920
      @alexanderkupke920 Před měsícem +1

      I think with humility you mentioned one of the most important part for anyone to improve and develop.
      Staying aware, that there is always something to be taught and staying aware to learn the things you come upon, be it from others doing things differently or by experiencing things that work better or don´t work at all. No matter if someone has decades of experience under his belt or it is just an apprentice, you may learn from anyone. and don´t be shy to show others your experience so they can learn. Also when working in a team, this is sometimes even harder, make use of others more capable of certain things than yourself and admit that others may do certain things better than yourself. That does not only help you to improve, but get the best out of working in a team.
      There is no shame in failing once in a while, it is just another oportunity to learn.
      On the other hand, although it might be a noble idea to strive for perfection, at some point trying to reach perfection is the enemy of getting things done properly. Learning that good enough sometimes is the only goal than can be achieved, and trying to do better just may make things worse.
      The day you think you know it all and there is no one you may learn something from, you are in a mindset that will make you fail hard, as you may not even realize anymore that you are failing.

    Ive been feeling rather overwhelmed and overworked as of lately. Ive built a tremendous reputation for craftsmanship and integrity so the schedule is always 6 to 8 months out which can put kind of a gogogogo mentality in me. This year i have taken a bit more time for myself and to ride/wrench on my motorcycles but now i just want to put everything on hold to rest.
    Still working consistently, doing estimates every week to build that schedule and trying to shoehorn in some time for myself and my family but its definitely difficult to juggle. Often the buisness is still taking the lions share of my time.
