  • The Xixová-Japuí State Park is home to an important portion of the Atlantic Forest preserved and detached from the Serra do Mar.
Created in 1993, it represented a great achievement for the surrounding residents, who fought bravely, in the mid-1980s, to prevent real estate speculation, irregular occupations and the installation of enterprises that wanted to explore the area.
The Park has 600 ha in land area and 301 ha in marine area, in the “Full Protection” category.
Located in the middle of the Baixada Santista Metropolitan Region, between the municipalities of São Vicente and Praia Grande, the Park that belongs to the Atlantic Forest biome, has different ecosystems, such as: marine, rocky coast, sandy beach, restinga forest and hillside forest. , resulting in a great diversity of species.
In its fauna, different species can be found, such as:
Butterflies of different colors and sizes
Mammals such as bats, sloths and baby anteaters
Diverse birds, such as the Tiê-sangue and its unmistakable red
The Black-billed Toucan, fond of the fruits of the Juçara Palm
And the Jacutinga, an endangered species.
There is also our flag species, the Trinta-réis-Real, a migratory sea bird, also threatened with extinction, which uses the beaches of Paranapuã, in São Vicente and Canto do Forte, in Praia Grande, for rest and food.
And we cannot forget the richness of our marine fauna. Porpoises, sea turtles, humpback whales, an infinite amount of fish and even sharks often frequent our marine area.
In its flora can be seen embaúbas, bromeliads, fig trees and even species threatened with extinction, such as the Juçara palm and the brazilwood.
This great biodiversity in the Xixová-Japuí State Park confirms the importance of this Conservation Unit for the Baixada Santista.
Its main attractions are Praia de Itaquitanduva, Praia de Paranapuã, the Tannery and Surfers trails, the old Tannery Cardamone, the Itaipu Fortress, the Pedreira and the Marine Area.
Our Visitors Center, located in an urban area, with easy access, in addition to offering a structure to assist visitors, such as access control, parking, restrooms and drinking fountains, is the access point to the Tannery Trail.
Itaquitanduva Beach is the main attraction of the Xixová-Japuí State Park. It is a tumble beach, with thick sand and high waves, being much appreciated by surfers. It is a rustic beach, without infrastructure equipment, which makes it even more special.
The Itaipu Fortress, dating from 1902, is located in the municipality of Praia Grande and because it is a national security area, it has specific regulations, and is administered by the Brazilian Army - 2nd Anti-Aircraft Artillery Group (2nd GAAAe).
Praia de Paranapuã is a restricted beach, due to the presence of , who use the place for rest and food. In search of a quiet area to rest from long journeys, the Trinta-réis-Real, a migratory sea bird, threatened with extinction, and for this reason, chosen as the flag species of the Park, is a frequent visitor to Praia de Paranapuã.
The protection of the Conservation Unit is carried out periodically by the Park team, with the support of the state and municipal security agencies of São Vicente and Praia Grande.
There are incursions through restricted areas, guidance on trails and beaches, marine monitoring focused on reducing the impacts generated by irregular activities in general.
The teams' strategies are carried out according to the occurrences, seeking the safety of visitors and areas considered sensitive, in the Conservation Unit.
The Park receives around 20 thousand visitors annually, mostly residents and surfers from neighboring cities.
To get to know the Xixová-Japuí State Park and the other Conservation Units in the State of São Paulo, managed by Fundação Florestal, it is necessary to schedule an appointment on the website.
